ALGIRES: The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), a Shariah-based multilateral insurer and member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, today signed a Documentary Credit Insurance Policy (DCIP) with Albaraka Bank Egypt, on the sidelines of the IsDB Group Annual Meetings 2025 in Algiers to support export transactions backed by Letters of Credit worth USD 50 Million.

The DCIP was signed by Dr. Khalid Khalafalla, CEO of ICIEC, and Mr Ahmed Atteya, Head of Financial Institutions at Al Baraka Bank Egypt. This underscores the critical role of tailored risk-mitigation instruments in de-risking and enabling cross-border trade.

The insurance policy provides a comprehensive coverage for Al Baraka Bank’s documentary credit transactions by protecting the bank againt non-payment risk of overseas banks issing letters of credit (LCs). This enables to enlarge its LC confirmation business to support Egyptian exports.

Dr. Khalid Khalafalla, CEO of ICIEC, stated, “We are honored to partner with Al Baraka Bank – Egypt on this Documentary Credit Insurance Policy to de-risk Egyptian exports. This collaboration strengthens economic resilience and supports growth across our member states.”

NEW YORK: “On behalf of AAPI, I had an opportunity to meet with Deputy Consul General Hon. Varun Jeph to discuss various collaborative initiatives between AAPI and the Government of India,” said Dr. Satheesh Kathula, President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI).

Dr. Kathula along with dozens of physicians of Indian origin, who flew in from many parts of the United States to join in and participate at the 78th India’s Independence Day celebrations and the Inda Day Parade in New York City, met with the officials at the Indian Consulate in New York on Sunday, August 18th.

Hon. Jeph and the Indian Consulate in New York tweeted on X after the meeting: “Deputy Consul General Hon. Varun Jeph and AAPI President Dr. Satheesh Kathula met in New York today. Had constructive discussions on the role of Indian physicians in the US in strengthening Indo-US healthcare collaborations and empowering the vibrant Diaspora community. Wish him the best for his tenure as AAPI President.”

Dr. Kathula described the meeting as very productive. While elaborating on the discussions he had with Hon. Jeph, he said, “The discussions highlighted key projects that AAPI will be undertaking in India, including programs focused on the prevention of cancer and heart attacks, as well as widespread CPR training initiatives aimed at improving emergency response capabilities across the country.”

Dr. Kathula pointed to the next edition of the Global Health Summit, planned to be held in New Delhi from October 18-20, 2024. This summit is expected to bring together healthcare professionals and experts from around the world to share knowledge, explore innovative healthcare solutions, and strengthen global health partnerships.

The flagship annual event of AAPI, the Global Healthcare Summit has contributed to ushering in new ways of providing healthcare to India’s 1.4 Billion people, who live in the congested urban centers and in the rural/remote regions of the country. The 18th annual GHS will build on past initiatives and add several new programs, Dr. Kathula added.

Dr. Kathula has served AAPI in various capacities. He was the Regional Director and a member of the Board of Trustees. He was elected overwhelmingly by AAPI members as the national Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice President of AAPI, and has served as the President-Elect of AAPI during the year 2023-34.
AHMEDABAD: Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) was constituted in October 2021 as part of the far-reaching reforms in the space sector brought out by the Government of India, aiming towards boosting private sector participation in the entire range of space activities. IN-SPACe was created with a mandate to regulate and authorize all space activities undertaken by the Government entities and Non-Government Entities (NGEs), along with its role as a promoter, enabler, and supervisor for the NGEs engaged in the space activities in the country.

The release of the Indian Space Policy-2023 in April 2023 by the Government of India was a watershed moment for the Indian space sector. This policy permitted NGEs to participate in space activities end-to-end. In line with the role of IN-SPACe defined in ISP-2023, IN-SPACe has formulated and released today the Norms, Guidelines, and Procedures (NGP) for implementation of the Indian Space Policy 2023 in respect of Authorization of Space Activities.

The NGP would complement the Government’s endeavor to provide a predictable regulatory regime, transparency, and ease of doing business in the Indian space sector. The NGP document lists space activities that need authorization from IN-SPACe, specifies criteria for granting such authorizations, and provides necessary guidelines/pre-requisites to be fulfilled by an Applicant for making authorization application to IN-SPACe. The NGP document can be viewed and downloaded from IN-SPACe digital portal (www.inspace.gov.in)

MUMBAI: The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), in collaboration with Pahle India Foundation (PIF), announced the launch of an exclusive compendium summarizing the insights and discussions from a series of 11 seminars focused on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). This landmark publication was unveiled at a special event, at NSE headquarters, attended by industry leaders, policymakers, and sustainability advocates.

The collaboration between NSE and PIF on this initiative has been a pioneering effort in bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders, market participants, policymakers, and domain experts on a single platform and engaging in thought-provoking discussions with the aim of policy advocacy while keeping ESG issues at the forefront.

Each seminar was meticulously designed to tackle specific aspects of ESG such as green bonds and carbon trading, stewardship code, NBFC and PSU governance, and the Social Stock Exchange. Following these engaging and insightful discussions, a policy brief was released summarizing the key points and recommendations made during each seminar.

The compendium released by NSE and PIF compiles these policy briefs, offering an overview of the policy imperatives in the current ESG landscape and a vision for a sustainable and equitable future.

Speaking at the event, Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, of NSE emphasized the importance of ESG considerations in today’s market environment. “This compendium is not just a reflection of the discussions that took place; it’s a roadmap for integrating sustainability into the core of our ecosystem. It’s the culmination of a year-long journey of knowledge sharing and a step forward towards fostering a more responsible market,” said Shri Ashishkumar Chauhan.

Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Chairman of Pahle India Foundation and former Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog who founded PIF in 2013, as a non-profit research policy think tank, highlighted the combined effort behind the seminars and the compendium. “Through our collaboration with NSE, we aimed to create a platform for meaningful dialogue on ESG. This compendium is a testament to our commitment to promoting sustainable development and responsible business practices in India,” remarked Dr. Rajiv Kumar.

PUNE: The National Seed Association of India, an apex body of the Indian Seed Industry which is playing a leadership role in facilitating a favorable policy environment for the growth of the Indian Seed industry, is organizing its 12th edition of the Indian Seed Congress (ISC) on the theme “Seeds for Sustainable Agriculture” at The Westin, Koregaon Park Pune on 29th February and 1st March 2024.

The ISC 2024 was inaugurated today 29th February 2024, the chief guest was Dr. C D Mayee, former Chairman, of the Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board and a renowned scientist in the field of Agriculture. The Guest of Honour was Dr A K Singh, Vice Chancellor of CSA University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Shree Ajeet Mulay, Convener of National Organizing Committee of ISC 2024 welcomed all the guests, other dignitaries, and delegates He also gave a brief background of the deliberation which will take place during the two-day event.
Dr M Prabhakar Rao, President NSAI made a detailed presentation on the present status and prospects of the Indian Seed industry starting from the green revolution to the present period of Amritkal. He lauded the role of the seed industry in the development of Indian Agriculture and the Indian Economy. He indicated that with India setting itself to boost its economy to 7 trillion USD by 2030 and 10 trillion USD by 2034, the seed industry also has the potential to grow to 7 billion USD if we can focus and aim for 1 billion USD export. He also gave a perspective view of the future developments and emerging technologies that would need to be integrated with seed research and development to harness their full potential. Dr Rao also presented a matrix to set the priority of the seed sector for the new era.

Guest of Honour, Dr AK Singh mentioned that Indian Agriculture has gone through tremendous transformation exhibiting outstanding growth in several crops, particularly, the horticultural crops. Still, there was huge potential to be tapped for boosting the production to a level where we ensure our domestic food and nutritional security and also tap the growing export market. Dr Singh was of the view that good quality seeds alone were capable of pioneering this transformation and hoped that the deliberations during the ISC would set a direction for this initiative.

Chief Guest Dr C D Mayee appreciated the visionary presentation by President NSAI and hoped that under his leadership the Seed industry was going to achieve new heights in the days to come. Dr. Mayee emphasized the use of new technology to be used in the area where we are facing constraints, particularly, concerning the increasing labor problems in agriculture which could be tackled by the mechanization and adaptation of new technology tools. Extensive use of digital technologies in agriculture has to be explored to address the difficult areas of agricultural development. Dr. Mayee suggested that we must target the new genetic tools and technologies for improvements in the production/productivity of crops where we have shortages, particularly, the oilseeds like mustard, soybean, and groundnut and also several pulses.

Shri Vaibhav R Kashikar, Treasurer NSAI summarized the 12-year journey of ISC which has made a significant contribution towards giving shape to the Indian Seed Industry, and presented the vote of thanks to all distinguished guests, sponsors delegated and all others associated with the organization with event.
