Speaking about the event, Saniya Patankar said, ” ‘Thaat’ holds a significant place in Hindustani Classical Music and hence we thought of presenting ‘Kalyan Thaat Ke Raag’ which will feature performances of 11 ragas including Bhup, Hameer, Hindol, Shuddh Kalyan, Yaman, Marubihag among others, all from Raag Kalyan.”

The program will begin with Saniya Patankar and her disciples presenting the raags from the Kalyan Thaat. Following this, renowned flutist Pt. Rupak Kulkarni from Mumbai will enthrall the audience with his flute renditions based on Raag Kalyan.

The program will conclude with a high-energy rhythmic performance by Maheshraj Salunke and his disciples. They will present ‘Taalgajar’, a powerful performance featuring a group of 25 tabla and pakhawaj players. The entire event will be accompanied by Maheshraj Salunke, Madhav Limaye, and Pt. Abhijit Banerjee from West Bengal. Gauri Joshi will anchor the program.

Niladri Kumar began the day with a rare Raag– Yaman Manj in medium-paced Teen Taal tastefully leaning towards the Drut Teen Taal Bandish. The Kheechkam in the lower octaves were greatly applauded by the audience. The rapid ‘tihais’ were the crown jewels of the show. The improvisation in the three-times cycle was aptly reciprocated by the tabla accompanist with a solo in the same ‘Tippat’ cycle. Niladri Kumar concluded his performance with a dedication to his father and Guru Pt. Kartick Kumar with a melody he had learned from him. Pt. Kartick Kumar was present at the festival today and is a disciple of legendary Sitar Exponent Pt. Ravi Shankar. He was accompanied by Satyajit Talwalkar on the Tabla. Satyajit Talwalkar is the disciple and son of Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, who was also present at the festival today.

Speaking after Niladri Kumar’s performance, Pt. Kartick Kumar said, ” I have performed at Sawai Gandharva many years back along with my Guru Pt. Ravi Shankarji. For me, Bharat Ratna Bhimesn Joshi’s music is the purest form of music and I believe that Sawai Gandharva is an immortal music festival that is worshipped by artists. For us, Pune has authentic music aficionados, and being applauded here is a blessing of another kind“

“Through the medium of this musical program, we have come together to inaugurate Kirana Sangeet Gurukul. Music enthusiasts will get an opportunity to not only learn classical music but also get trained under significant Gurus for Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya exams and also get trained in terms of presentation,” announced Pt. Shrinivas Joshi, President of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal.

Ashwini Modak, a renowned vocalist, and a student of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Prabha Atre started the program with ‘Raag Puriya Dhanashree.’ She also presented ‘Taal Dadra’ in ‘Raag Des’ and was accompanied by Gangadhar Shinde (Harmonium), Kishor Korde (Tabla), and Akanksha Desai (Tanpura).

Dharwad’s acclaimed Sitar artist Ustad Rais Bale Khan also performed at the program. He played Alap, Jod, Jhala in ‘Raag Janasammohini’ and was accompanied by Kishor Korde (Tabla).

Shrinivas Joshi, son of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi concluded the program with ‘Sumaran To Ro, Tu Rahim Tu Karim’ – a Vilambit Teentaal in ‘Raag Yaman’, ‘Mori Gagri Naav’ a Khyaal and ‘Boli Na Bol’ a Bhairavi. He was accompanied by Gangadhar Shinde (Harmonium), Kishor Korde (Tabla), and Viraj Joshi (Tanpura).

The program is conceptualized and is being presented by renowned vocalist Saniya Patankar. Other artists who will perform during this program include Madhuri Apte (Kathak), Pandit Saptarshi Hajra (Sitar), Aashay Kulkarni (Tabla), Ameya Bichu (Harmonium), Aman Warkhedkar (Keyboard), Anurag Joshi (Flute) and Vasudha Kulkarni (Painting). Swati Prabhu Mirashi will play the anchor for the program.
