PUNE: In a milestone moment for the future of responsible, human-centred technology, Mr. Lal Chandra (L.C.) Singh, Founder and Executive Chairman of Nihilent, Pune, has received the prestigious VASVIK Industrial Research Award (2025) in Information & Communication Technology. The 51st Annual Industrial Research Awards, hosted by Vividhlaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra (VASVIK) at B. J. Hall, Mumbai, celebrated Indian scientists who have made extraordinary contributions to national prosperity. The ceremony was graced by Chief Guests BK Radhika Didi and Lord Dr. Frank Mentrup, Mayor of Karlsruhe, Germany, alongside distinguished leaders, including Dr. Mohan I. Patel and Prof. M. M. Sharma.

This recognition acknowledges Mr. Singh’s sustained intellectual leadership in developing human-centred frameworks across technology and organisational systems. Over the years, he has created proprietary models such as MC³, a patented change management tool; 14Signals, a structured framework for evaluating customer perception, experience, and value association; and PROLICY-D, a design thinking-led, holistic product development framework that integrates human-centric principles into the development lifecycle. Building on this foundation of structured, human-centred thinking, his latest breakthrough, Emoscape, has emerged as a defining advancement in medical-grade Emotion AI.

Speaking on the occasion, L.C. Singh, Founder and Executive Chairman of Nihilent Ltd., said, “I am deeply honoured to receive the VASVIK Industrial Research Award. This recognition belongs to the entire team at Nihilent, who believed in the vision of Emoscape. Our goal has always been to move beyond data processing and leverage AI to better understand human emotions. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each recipient for their dedication, perseverance, and invaluable contributions to the nation. I sincerely thank VASVIK for underscoring the importance of responsible and ethically driven innovation in the ICT sector”.

Emoscape is a medical-grade Emotion AI platform that detects and calibrates emotional states through a precise one-minute scan, analysing subtle upper-body micro-movements using a standard web camera. By translating these micro-movement patterns into a structured emotional profile, Emoscape introduces an objective and measurable layer to understanding emotional dynamics across healthcare, sports, education, insurance, marketing, corporate ecosystems, and more.

At its core, Emoscape is grounded in the nine classical emotional archetypes articulated in the Natyashastra—the ancient Indian treatise on human behaviour and performance. Using three-dimensional motion capture techniques and advanced analytical algorithms, it maps fine-grained body dynamics onto this framework with clinical-grade precision, an approach that has been strengthened through recent peer-reviewed academic publications and continued research.

By bringing together classical behavioural insight with modern Emotion AI, Emoscape reflects Nihilent’s broader philosophy of elevating emotion from abstraction to accountability. It envisions a world where emotion is no longer dismissed as subjective, but recognised as a structured force shaping outcomes across industries, institutions, and societies.

Established in 1973, VASVIK is a non-profit organisation committed to promoting excellence in science and technology in India. Over the decades, it has honoured more than 450 Indian scientists whose research and innovation have directly contributed to national prosperity. The awardees are selected through a rigorous evaluation process led by expert committees and the Board of Advisors, ensuring recognition of individuals whose work significantly impacts industrial growth and societal development.

This recognition marks a defining moment for Nihilent and reinforces India’s growing leadership in responsible and human-centric emotion-AI innovation.

NEW DELHI: Google today announced a suite of new collaborations and funding commitments to bolster India’s AI ecosystem at its “Lab to Impact” dialogue, an event supported by the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Attended by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, the dialogue highlighted Google’s research-driven approach to supporting Digital Public Infrastructure and empowering the research, developer, and startup ecosystem to solve national challenges and meet large-scale social needs.

Minister of Education, Government of India, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan stated: “India is approaching artificial intelligence as a strategic national capability, not as a short-term technology trend. The four AI Centres of Excellence have been conceived as a coordinated national research mission, advancing foundational research, responsible AI, and applied solutions that serve public purpose, and contributing to our larger aspiration of Viksit Bharat 2047. Building a globally competitive AI ecosystem requires not only public investment, but also strong institutional leadership and long-term partnerships with industry. This effort is supported by Google and Google.org through their USD 8 million contribution to the AI Centres of Excellence and a USD 2 million founding contribution to the Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at IIT Bombay.”

Speaking at the event, Dr Manish Gupta, Senior Research Director, Google DeepMind, stated: “AI is humanity’s most profound and powerful force for progress, and at Google, we see its global evolution driven by three pivotal shifts – its ability to accelerate scientific discovery, its advances augmenting human capability, and India’s unique embrace of AI’s potential. From foundational research to ecosystem deployment to scaled impact, our full-stack approach is equipping the country to lead a global AI-powered future, with innovations from India’s labs benefiting billions across the world.”

Integrating AI into India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for healthcare

Google announced funding of $400,000 to support new collaborations that will leverage MedGemma to build India’s Health Foundation Models. These models aim to improve the efficiency of healthcare providers and improve patient outcomes across India. As a first step, Ajna Lens will work with experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to build models that will support India-specific use cases in Dermatology and OPD Triaging. The resulting models will contribute to India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, and their outcomes will be made accessible to the ecosystem.

Additionally, researchers, AI experts, and clinicians from IISc will explore using AI models for broader clinical applications.

Google is also working with the National Health Authority (NHA) to deploy its advanced AI to convert millions of fragmented, unstructured medical records (such as doctors’ clinical and progress notes) into the international, machine-readable FHIR standard. This shift is expected to help patients understand their medical information better, reduce documentation burden on patients and hospitals, and inform better data-driven policy decisions for India’s public healthcare strategy.

Google is also working with NHA to bring over 400,000 NHA-registered health facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic labs, on Google Maps and Search, allowing people to easily find and navigate to their nearest health centers with the most updated official information.

Strengthening India’s AI research ecosystem and the government’s vision of India’s AI leadership

Google has consistently supported India’s scientists and researchers in fostering the country’s innovation. Over the last five years, Google has supported nearly 1,000 years of PhD-level research work across more than 25 leading research institutions, including premier institutes. The global PhD Fellowship program has supported 166 Indian PhD students to date. This year’s recipients from India are leading inspiring foundational and applied research, spanning computer vision foundational models to models supporting mental disorders.

To further support India’s research ecosystem, Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, is announcing funding support totaling $8 million for four AI Centres of Excellence established by the Government of India, aligning with the vision to “Make AI in India and Make AI work for India. This funding will support research at the Centers of Excellence:

TANUH at IISc Bangalore will focus on developing scalable AI solutions for the effective treatment of non-communicable diseases.

Airawat Research Foundation, IIT Kanpur, will focus on pioneering research on AI to transform urban governance.

AI Centre of Excellence for Education, IIT Madra,s will focus on developing solutions to enhance learning and teaching outcomes.

ANNAM.AI at IIT Ropar will focus on developing data-driven solutions for agriculture and farmer welfare.

To continue advancing its commitment to Inclusive AI, Google is announcing a $2 million founding contribution to establish the new Indic Language Technologies Research Hub at IIT Bombay. This hub is set up in memory of Professor Pushpak Bhattacharyya, a pioneer in Indic language technologies and a Visiting Researcher at Google DeepMind. It will aim to ensure that global AI advancements serve India’s linguistic diversity.

Equipping developers with our open models to power indigenous AI

Indian startups have shown enthusiasm for the benchmark-leading Indic capabilities of Google’s foundational AI models. Startups Gnani.AI and CoRover.AI have been leveraging Gemma to build Voice AI models and e-governance–focused models serving Indic language solutions.

Google is providing $50,000 of funding to each of these startups to support their efforts to include more of the Indian diaspora in AI. Additionally, Google is giving a $50,000 grant to IIT-Bombay as it uses Gemma to process Indic language health governance and policy documents to establish a novel ‘India-Centric Trait Database’ containing information on diseases, phenotypes, and genetic conditions relevant to the Indian population.

To increase access to its foundational open models, Google has uploaded all 22 Gemma models onto AIKosh, the India AI Mission’s open data and model platform. This action is intended to help the Indian developer community develop indigenous models that elevate the Make-in-India ambition.

Empowering India’s changemakers to deploy AI for India’s pressing challenges

Google remains inspired by the commitment of Indian innovators and changemakers to solve for India and will continue supporting the ecosystem as it develops AI-powered solutions on the foundational layer of the nation’s AI ambition.

Utilizing Google’s Open Health Stack, a collection of open-source tools for next-generation digital health solutions, the Indian nonprofit Khushi Baby has successfully conducted over 35 million tuberculosis screenings in Rajasthan this year using a TB Active Case Finding (ACF) screening module. Integration with the Open Health Stack ensured the solution’s compliance with international standards, the Indian government’s digital health mission, and the national effort for tuberculosis elimination.

Third-party research has indicated that AI-powered digital tools could enhance the labor productivity of India’s over one million ASHA frontline workers, enabling them to deliver an additional 98 million visits to rural patients each year. Furthermore, research estimates that AI-assisted screening tools could save the Indian public roughly ₹390 billion ($4.7 billion) yearly, which is approximately 12% of India’s total out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure.

Google is providing $2.5 million in Google.org funding to support Wadhwani AI in piloting HealthVaani, an LLM-based conversational AI assistant. Launched in partnership with the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development, HealthVaani supports ASHA and Anganwadi workers. This multimodal and multilingual solution uses Gemini 2.5-Flash for translations, answer generation, and moderation, while the advanced Gemini Embedding Model handles response retrieval.

Google is also providing $2 million in Google.org funding to Wadhwani AI to help develop and deploy Garuda, a new Indian language model for agriculture. Garuda will power AgriVaani, a multilingual, AI-driven smartphone application that will offer India’s farmers and agri-workers precise, contextually relevant advice on crop and livestock management, pest detection, and climate-smart practices.

Ensuring AI’s long-term impact is powered sustainably

Google is committed to ensuring the scaled impact of AI is responsible and sustainable, demonstrated by a partnership with ReNew Energy to support a new 150 megawatt (MW) solar project in Rajasthan, India. Under a long-term agreement, Google will receive environmental attribute certificates (EACs) and allocate them to its value chain emissions. Concurrently, Google will engage with key suppliers to boost clean energy adoption. This initiative addresses the supply chain’s energy footprint and demonstrates a clear pathway for organizations to credibly tackle emissions across the AI value chain.

This partnership builds on Google’s prior collaborations with Adani Group and Clean Max, which added 186 MW of wind and solar power to India’s grid, and contributes to India’s 2030 goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity.

Bajaj Allianz tops Customer Experience Rankings, followed by SBI General Insurance and ICICI Lombard General Insurance

INDIA: Hansa Research, India’s leading consumer insights firm, has released the 1st edition of the Health Insurance Customer Experience Score (CuES) 2025 report. This comprehensive study offers a deep dive into the evolving preferences, expectations, and satisfaction levels of health insurance customers across the country, drawing insights from over 3,800 respondents across 12 health insurance brands, and presents a robust framework for insurers to sharpen their strategies and drive stronger customer engagement.

India’s health insurance sector, which saw a surge in adoption during the pandemic, continues to expand since then (albeit at a moderated pace), as consumers prioritize financial protection amidst rising medical costs. According to the report, nearly half (48%) of health insurance buyers cited ‘protection from rising healthcare expenses’ as the primary driver for purchasing insurance, reflecting heightened concern over medical inflation. Moreover, customers increasingly view health insurance not just as a financial product, but as a gateway to access quality healthcare and better health outcomes. We are also seeing that nearly 30% of Policyholders supplement existing corporate health coverage with additional policies.

As the health insurance landscape in India becomes increasingly competitive, with a mix of public sector giants, private insurers, and standalone health firms, understanding and improving customer experience is no longer optional.

The Health Insurance CuES 2025 report pegs the Industry Net Promoter Score at 55%, and among the top-ranked brands, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, SBI General Insurance, and ICICI Lombard General Insurance emerge as standout performers. These brands are not only perceived as ‘trustworthy’ but also excel in product-related aspects, ease of claim filing, hospital network access, and customer support responsiveness, among other things.

Among these, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance is leading the rankings with an impressive Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 68%, winning customer loyalty through strong product delivery, digital support, excellent claims experience, and a well-rated hospital network. The brand has successfully positioned itself as a customer-centric insurer, fostering high levels of satisfaction and loyalty.

Key Findings from the Health Insurance CUES 2025 Report

Evolving Customer Expectations
Customer expectations are rapidly changing, driven by a digital-first mindset for policy purchase and management. There is a clear preference for personalized, flexible, and wellness-oriented plans, which are associated with higher satisfaction and stronger brand affinity. Insurers that align offerings with these preferences are more likely to attract and retain today’s informed and health-conscious consumers.

Consumers’ brand preferences for health insurance

Consumers’ preferences for health insurance brands are shaped by three core factors: the product offering, particularly the range and coverage of critical illnesses and plan flexibility; a strong and trustworthy brand reputation; and convenient access to 24/7 customer service. Notably, younger millennials place greater emphasis on round-the-clock support and seamless digital experiences, making these critical differentiators for insurers targeting this demographic.

Portability Empowers Consumers
The growing ease of health insurance portability has shifted the balance of power toward the consumer, pushing insurers to focus on delivering value across the entire policyholder journey, not just at the point of acquisition. Increased competition is driving accountability. The study finds that premium increases, lack of transparency, and unsatisfactory claim experiences are the top reasons consumers switch providers. This highlights a growing demand for fair, transparent, and consistent service.

Claims Experience Remains a Key Challenge
The claims process continues to be a critical friction point, with 55% of claimants reporting difficulties. Key concerns include limited hospital networks, pre-authorization delays, and slow payouts. These issues are even more pronounced among millennials, who have higher expectations for speed and simplicity. A smooth and efficient cashless claims process is strongly linked to overall satisfaction, underlining the need for insurers to invest in both digital capabilities and operational efficiency.

Barriers Among Non-Policyholders
Despite rising awareness, several barriers continue to prevent non-policyholders from entering the health insurance ecosystem. The most cited concerns include a lack of perceived need/ benefits of health insurance, affordability, and complexity of terms and conditions. Addressing these barriers through clear communication, affordable micro-products, and simplified onboarding processes will be essential for expanding coverage and inclusion across demographics.

Piyali Chatterjee, Executive Vice President, CX, Hansa Research, said, “Expansion of network coverage, simplifying pre-authorization protocols, and ensuring timely settlements will improve customer trust. Addressing these issues is critical for strengthening India’s healthcare financing ecosystem and delivering a seamless insurance experience.”

HYDERABAD: The Tuli Research Centre for India Studies (T.R.I.S.) proudly announces the launch of tuliresearchcentre.org, a path-breaking digital platform offering free, open access to the most comprehensive integrated visual-textual knowledge base on India’s modern and contemporary fine arts, popular arts, cinema, photography, architectural heritage, graphic arts, animal welfare, and cultural economics and thought, so allowing a new conceptual framework for India Studies.

The platform’s launch marks the culmination of Neville Tuli’s three-decade-long journey as a cultural institution builder, beginning with the founding of HEART (The Tuli Foundation for Holistic Education and Art, 1995–99), advancing through Osian’s Connoisseurs of Art (2000–21) to Vanraja Sanctuary & Hospice (2015-), and culminating now with T.R.I.S. – an institution dedicated to researching upon and sharing an expansive archive, knowledge base, and library for public and scholarly engagement.

Tuli’s pioneering ideas on education, transdisciplinary knowledge-building, and the fusion of image-text-audio learning within a holistic conceptual framework of theory, experience, and archival preservation have shaped these endeavors. His vision has consistently championed the creation of autonomous spaces of intellectual inquiry, where knowledge is expansive, free, and participatory.

Platform Overview: tuliresearchcentre.org

Tuliresearchcentre.org was conceptualized by Neville Tuli post-2020, though it has been evolving for nearly three decades through his writings, personal research, curation, and transdisciplinary knowledge development. The platform places images on par with carefully curated textual and audio materials. It has been built using the most basic technology of the Excel Sheet, thousands of manually structured and templated Excel sheets of knowledge,e then transformed into web data by the coding team.

This foundational approach allows the platform to power a world-class Search and Filter Engine, with each cultural object and archival document serving as the basic unit. Users are empowered to conduct precise inquiries across multiple fields, retrieving highly tailored results that foster deeper, self-directed exploration.

The India Studies platform is created upon Tuli’s uniquely conceptualised sixteen Research Categories. These are then linked to thousands of carefully selected Masterlists, which are represented by “A-Graphy” pages, and these are all interrelated and contextualised through 100,000+ visual and textual objects in v1.0.

In v1.1, the structure of the Post and its Q & A are added to begin the deeper engagement process of the visitors, which will soon lead to the personally customised curricula framework by v1.2 so hopefully offering a groundbreaking model for how archives and educational frameworks can be reimagined to take forward learning and educational models.

Version 1.0 (30th April 2025): Public launch of the Search and Filter Engine with sample Masterlist pages and access to 100,000+ objects.

Version 1.1 (30th June 2025): Expansion of Masterlist A-Graphy pages and object collections.

Version 1.2 (30th September 2025): Introduction of the customised curricula framework for “Self-Discovery via Rediscovering India.”

Version 2.0 (1st January 2026): Full roll-out of support systems for top colleges and universities, particularly in India and Cultural Studies.

A Call to Reimagine Education

At its heart, tuliresearchcentre.org is built on a simple but powerful belief that Knowledge must belong to all. Education must be free. Inquiry must be boundless.

We live by the principle that every answer leads to a deeper question, sustaining the eternal process of learning, discovery, and the joy inherent in consciousness itself.

The Tuli Research Centre for India Studies stands in solidarity with students, teachers, and lifelong learners everywhere, demanding an educational future that transcends economic and institutional barriers, a future where access to deep knowledge, critical thinking, and creative exploration is a right, not a privilege.

tuliresearchcentre.org represents a bold commitment to this future: a platform that democratizes India’s artistic, cultural, and intellectual legacies, inviting scholars, academics, students, and the wider public into a living, evolving dialogue with India’s rich creative traditions and global intersections.

PUNE: Henkel Adhesives Technologies India Private Limited (Henkel India) announces the opening of its Researchers’ World lab at Shardashram School in Shirgaon, Pune. Researchers’ World, Henkel’s signature global education initiative introduces children to the world of science to awaken their enthusiasm for STEM subjects. This lab, established under Henkel’s India CSR plan for 2024-25, was inaugurated by S. Sunil Kumar, President of Henkel India, and Prakash Deole, the founder of Shardashram School. The event was graced by Mr. Sanjay Naikade, Education Officer of Maval.

Henkel Researchers’ World focuses on sparking curiosity in children ages 8 – 10 years and takes a holistic approach to teaching and learning by putting children in the role of actual researchers. The Researchers’ World lab at Shardashram School can accommodate 20 students at a time. This lab will support around 40 nearby schools. Each session comprises a briefing on the experiment, equipment usage, and safety measures, followed by hands-on activities where students document their observations and discuss them with facilitators. Over a year, students will complete 12 experiments, guided by Henkel employees from Pune who volunteer as teachers at the Researchers’ World lab.

Commenting on the inauguration, S. Sunil Kumar stated, “At Henkel India, we are thrilled to launch the Lab at Shardashram School. As part of our commitment to fostering thriving communities, Henkel Researchers’ World aims to bridge the gap in STEM education by making it accessible to all children. Without practical exposure and demonstration, the real essence of science cannot be experienced or perpetrated. To provide children with an opportunity to unleash their inquisitive minds and channel their scientific/ researcher-like temperament, Henkel introduced Researchers’ World. This initiative will go a long way in igniting a passion for science in the young minds, encouraging them to be curious and developing a spirit of discovery.”

The Researchers’ World initiative has now been successfully implemented in 20 countries, and the addition of India marks an exciting expansion of this global program. Since its inauguration at Henkel’s Düsseldorf headquarters in April 2011, more than 100,000 children around the world have taken part in Henkel’s Researchers’ World programs. The initiative aims to focus on applying scientific methods to everyday life, such as critical testing, analysis, interpretation of data, science, and creativity.

Henkel’s CSR efforts in India are focused on supporting students from underprivileged backgrounds by providing essential learning opportunities through such dedicated labs. Additionally, Henkel has collaborated with Shardashram School on various initiatives, including an Astronomy Lab, sustainability education, career guidance, sports, and cultural programs.
