PUNE: The Association for Diabetes and Obesity Reversal (ADORE), a Pune-based organization, has guided individuals in losing weight and controlling diabetes without medication through the Dixit Lifestyle. According to data from ADORE’s Diabetes Reversal Counselling Center, 3,500 patients have registered to lose weight or manage diabetes, with an average weight loss of 6.2 kg over six months. Out of these, 3000 patients are from Pune city and its surrounding areas.

Furthermore, approximately 398 diabetic patients have been able to reduce their HbA1c levels to below 6.5 without medication for at least three months, with 365 of them being from Pune and its surrounding areas. This information was shared by Dr. Jagannath Dixit, a renowned diabetologist and proponent of the Dixit diet. Dr. Dixit also mentioned that lakhs of people from India and abroad have benefited from the Dixit diet.

ADORE’s center has helped 35–40 patients with very high blood sugar to control diabetes without medicines, and 4 patients have successfully quit tobacco while following the Dixit lifestyle, he added.ADORE’s Trustee Balasaheb Kadam, Dr. Jayant Navrange, and Dr. Veda Nalawade were also present at the press conference.

The ADORE center in Pune has now been moved to a bigger space above the Mahindra Unnati Showroom in Apex Colony near Nal Stop on Law College Road, for the convenience of patients. This space has been provided by the charitable organization Ram Padma Godbole Foundation. The center will operate from Monday to Saturday between 5 PM and 9 PM. Dr. Dixit said that all medical check-ups and counselling services at this center will be completely free of cost. Also, this year, Infosys Foundation has once again extended financial support to ADORE’s social service work.

Dr. Dixit explained that Type 2 diabetes is caused by a bad lifestyle and can be controlled without medicine by eating two meals a day and exercising 45 minutes daily. Many patients have successfully managed diabetes this way, and it doesn’t require special foods or costs; it’s simple and free.

“With financial help from Infosys Foundation, ADORE launched the ‘Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Program’ centers in Pune and Nagpur in November-December 2022. A center in Nashik, funded by CTR Company, runs daily. ADORE also has centers in Thane, Kalyan, Sangli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, Solapur, Vile Parle, Surat, Belgaum, and Madgaon, operating one to three days a week. Recently, new centers opened in Badlapur and Bhayandar”, said Dr. Dixit.

Based on patient data from the diabetes reversal center, numerous research papers have been published. One such paper, published in the Indian Journal of Community Medicine in February 2023, was honored as the ‘Best Research Paper’ of the year.

Considering the severity of the diabetes epidemic, there are plans to establish more such centers in cities across Maharashtra and India. For this, support from NGOs and corporate sponsors is essential. “We are making special efforts to sustain these centers through community participation,” Dr. Dixit concluded.

UNITED STATES: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) have filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, urging the reversal of a district court decision that misinterpreted the Fair Credit Reporting Act’s (FCRA) requirement to delete disputed credit information that cannot be verified by a furnisher of that information.

The case, Suluki v. Credit One Bank, NA, involves a consumer who disputed information on her credit report that she claimed resulted from multiple credit card accounts that her mother opened in her name without her permission or knowledge. The credit reporting agencies (CRAs) sent the dispute to the credit card companies for investigation. After Credit One refused to remove the information and purportedly verified the consumer as the accountholder, she sued the company under the FCRA.

The FCRA requires that, upon being notified of a dispute by a CRA, furnishers investigate whether the disputed information can be verified. If such an investigation is inconclusive, the FCRA requires the furnisher to delete from the data that the furnisher submits to CRAs the information that cannot be verified.

The consumer appealed after the district court granted Credit One’s request for summary judgment and held that she could not show harm from any failure by Credit One to conduct a reasonable investigation.

In their brief, the FTC and CFPB disputed the district court’s interpretation of the FCRA. They noted that under the FCRA, if a furnisher of credit information cannot determine whether the disputed consumer information is accurate, it must tell the CRAs that the information could not be verified and must delete it from the data that it reports to the CRAs.

The FTC and CFPB maintain that the lower court’s decision could impact consumers’ rights under the FCRA to dispute the completeness or accuracy of information and have it removed if a furnisher cannot verify that it is accurate.

Inaccurate information on a consumer report can hamper people’s ability to get housing, employment, and credit. The FTC and CFPB’s amicus brief aims to protect consumers’ rights under the FCRA and ensure that furnishers of credit information comply with the law.

The Commission voted 3-0 to join the CFPB amicus brief.

Association for Diabetes and Obesity Reversal. (ADORE) hosts an appreciation ceremony for people on the road to diabetes remission

PUNE: Diabetes can be controlled without medicines. Only diet, exercise, and consistency in both should be maintained. Thus, lifestyle management is the key to treating diabetes, said Dr. Jagannath Dixit, a senior public health expert during a function held at Sancheti Hall, Indian Medical Association, Tilak Road yesterday. Dr. Dixit was addressing a gathering during a program organized by the Association for Diabetes and Obesity REversal (ADORE) and Infosys Foundation Diabetes Care Program. Senior pediatrician Dr. Jayant Navrange, prominent physician Dr. Narendra Javdekar and Vice President of Infosys, Pune, Pravin Kulkarni were the Chief Guests.

The program was an appreciation ceremony held for the members of the Pune center of ADORE who have successfully moved towards diabetes remission. They narrated their success stories and were felicitated with a certificate. They were also given three coupons for free HbA1c testing.

On this occasion, Dr. Dixit said, “Many members at the Pune center have brought their HbA1c below 6.5 without taking the medication or even after its discontinuation. Being in this state for at least 6 months is technically called ‘Diabetes Remission.’ Our goal is to make at least 1000 patients diabetes free in three years at the Pune center. This is not a crash course but a lifestyle that needs to be followed after being diagnosed with diabetes. According to the latest report, 11.3% of the population in our country is diabetic and 28% is facing the obesity problem. With such a large number of disorders, strategic steps are required to be taken toward the research on preventive measures. Unfortunately, efforts are being taken towards developing new medicines for the treatment.”

“Rather than treating a disease like diabetes with medicines, overcome it with changes in lifestyle”, added Dr. Dixit. This is the aim of our campaign. He urged people diagnosed with diabetes to visit ADORE’s free Diabetes Reversal Counselling Center on Jangli Maharaj Road before starting any medication.

Pravin Kulkarni explained Infosys’ role in supporting Dr. Dixit’s campaign. He also said that 15 more centers will be started in the near future.

Dr. Navrange suggested that diabetics should follow the 5 D’s – Decide, Deliberation, Dedication, Devotion, and Discipline. “Use these 5 D’s and stay diabetes free” he advised.

Dr. Javdekar said, “Adopting the lifestyle discovered by Dr. Dixit for a challenging disease like diabetes is the best solution. It is necessary to change the lifestyle without being prejudiced about any pathy.”

Shilpa Unkule moderated the program. Vishwas Joshi introduced the guests and Avinash Gokhale gave a vote of thanks.
