The company now has 35 dealerships in Maharashtra, strengthening its presence in its largest market

PUNE: Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles marked Maharashtra Day on the road, in association with its newest dealership in Pune. Riders from the Jawa Yezdi riding community took to the streets of Pune in traditional attire for a celebratory rally, bringing together the city’s deep-rooted motorcycling culture and the colours and character of the state. Opening the city’s ninth dealership, the company takes its Maharashtra footprint to 35 outlets, strengthening its presence in its largest market.

The Maharashtra Day ride was anchored in the community. Over 150 riders from NJYOC (New Jawa Yezdi Owners Club) joined the celebratory city ride that started from the newly opened dealership to Shaniwar Wada. With Pune being one of the brand’s most vibrant centres of rider activity, the rally reflected the cultural pride instinctive to the region. The city’s long-standing love for the Jawa and Yezdi brands is being renewed by a new generation that is discovering these performance classics on its own terms. The city is home to several active Kommunitis (Jawa Yezdi riding clubs), speaking to the depth of engagement on the ground.

Anupam Thareja, Co-founder of Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles, said, “Maharashtra has always been central to our journey. It is more than our largest market. The bond between rider and motorcycle runs deep in the state, shaped by culture and community. Pune, in particular, has carried forward the legacy with a new generation of riders who see our motorcycles as an extension of who they are. It is a source of pride to mark Maharashtra Day with our riders here. With the new dealership in the city, we are strengthening our presence in the state even as it continues to inspire us and shape the way we meet rider needs.”

The new dealership, Shakti Automobiles, improves access to sales and aftersales support in a city where riding is as much about identity as it is about mobility. It is a full 3S (sales, service, spares) facility, offering customers a comprehensive ownership experience, from discovery and test rides to long-term service and genuine parts support.

The Maharashtra Day celebrations and the new dealership opening reflect a simple idea the company continues to build on: Motorcycles are only as strong as the communities that ride them. Pune’s communities ride with memory, pride, and a sense of belonging that cannot be manufactured.

The dealership is backed by the company’s Customer Assurance Programme, designed to support long-term ownership with reliability and peace of mind, including:

4-year/50,000-km standard warranty

Extended warranty options up to 6 years

One year of roadside assistance

Support across 400+ sales and service touchpoints nationwide

Details of the dealership:
Name: Shakti Automobiles
Address: Showroom No 3, Navale Icon, Navale Bridge Road, Sinhagad Road, nearby HP Petrol Pump, Narhe, Pune, Maharashtra-41104

PUNE: Lt. Col. Sohan Roy (Retd), a 77-year-old veteran of the Indian Army, has achieved a remarkable feat by riding solo to Umling La Pass, the world’s highest motorable road at 19,024 feet, in Leh, Ladakh. Between 20th and 30th August 2025, he undertook this challenging journey on his trusted Royal Enfield Classic 500, Wizard, braving relentless rains, landslides, power cuts, and communication failures along the route. His achievement stands as an inspiring message to all generations that determination, discipline, and passion never age.

This historic ride saw him traverse through Jammu, Srinagar, Drass, Kargil, Leh, Nyoma, and Hanle before finally conquering Umling La. Along the way, he paid solemn tributes at the Kargil War Memorial and the Battle of Badgam Memorial (1947-48), honoring the memory of India’s fallen heroes. His efforts drew admiration from the Border Roads Organisation, his fellow veterans, and rider communities across the country.

Lt. Col. Roy’s journey is not just about adventure, but about purpose. Commissioned into the 15th Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment (INDORE), he served the Indian Army for nearly three decades, with postings on the Line of Control in J& K, International Borders, and in counter-insurgency operations in the North East. A sportsman, footballer, boxer, and marathon runner in his prime, he defied medical advice after undergoing knee surgeries in 2000, choosing instead to embrace motorcycling as his calling. Over the years, he has covered more than 2,50,000 kilometers on Indian and international roads, riding not just for himself but for what he calls “Personal Social Responsibility” (PSR).

Through his rides, Lt. Col. Roy champions the cause of Save the Girl Child, motivates rural youth to pursue education and join the Armed Forces, and pays homage at war memorials across India and abroad. He has been felicitated twice by the Chief Minister of Gujarat for his social efforts and has entered the Limca Book of Records as the oldest rider to reach Khardungla. He also holds recognition from the India Book of Records for his East–West solo ride across India, Record Holders at World Stage, and has been honored at prestigious platforms, including the Buddh International Formula 1 Circuit.

Sohan also led the National Safety Rally from Pune to New Delhi, apart from various state road safety rallies in many districts of Maharashtra.

That’s not all – he took up an initiative that is very close to his heart – the cause of maintenance of graves of Field Marshal & Mrs SHFJ Manekshaw in Ooty, with the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Headquarters Southern Command, Pune. Action was taken immediately, and the graves were restored to the dignity they deserve. The graves are in a private cemetery in Ooty, which is a non-military station.

His riding legacy includes journeys to Siachen Glacier Base Camp, Rezangla, Tawang, Walong, Longewala, Amar Jawan Jyoti in Delhi, and even international memorials such as the National War Memorial in Malaysia. In 2025 alone, he conquered Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Loop before undertaking this solo ride to Umling La.

Reflecting on his latest achievement, Lt. Col. Roy beams: “You don’t stop biking as you age. You age when you stop biking. At 77, Umling La reminded me that the spirit of a soldier never fades.”

Lt. Col. Sohan Roy continues to inspire riders, veterans, and young citizens alike, proving that age is just a number when passion and service fuel the journey. His rides are tributes to India’s martyrs, reminders of social responsibility, and living proof that courage knows no retirement.

Over 2200 school students and staff members empowered with road safety education

PUNE: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reinforced its focus on road safety by conducting an awareness campaign in Pune, Maharashtra. The initiative engaged over 2200 students and staff members from Radiant International School, Shri J.R. Gunjal English Medium School and Junior College, Government College of Engineering and Research, and Gramonnati Mandal’s Arts, Commerce, and Science College equipping them with essential knowledge on responsible road behavior.

With a focus on early road safety education, HMSI designed this initiative to go beyond awareness and encourage a lasting behavioural change. Educating the students at an early stage helps shape responsible road users who can influence their surroundings. By engaging with schools, colleges and institutions —both government and non-government—HMSI continues to make road safety an integral part of everyday life.

The awareness campaign in Pune included safety riding lessons, danger prediction training, games, quizzes, helmet awareness and riding trainer modules. These interactive activities ensured that road safety education was both engaging and practical, helping the participants not only learn the road safety guidelines but also develop a sense of responsibility while on the road.

HMSI expressed gratitude to Radiant International School, Shri J.R. Gunjal English Medium School and Junior College, Government College of Engineering and Research and Gramonnati Mandal’s Arts, Commerce and Science College for its support in making this initiative a success. The enthusiastic participation of students and staff played a key role in spreading awareness about responsible road behavior and working towards safer roads.

Through its ongoing road safety initiatives, HMSI has reached nearly 3 lakh adults and children across Maharashtra, equipping them with practical knowledge to make informed choices on the road. With initiatives like these, HMSI continues to create awareness in promoting road safety and encourage responsible driving and riding habits for all.

In 2021, Honda announced its global vision statement for the year 2050 where it will strive for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles. In India HMSI is working in line with this vision and the Government of India direction of reducing fatalities to half by 2030.

One critical aspect of achieving this goal is developing a positive mindset toward road safety in our children by the year 2030 and continuing to educate them thereafter. Road safety education at schools and colleges is not only to create awareness but to introduce a safety culture in young minds and transform them to be the road safety ambassadors. It empowers future generations to become responsible and significantly contribute to a safer society.

HMSI wants to be a company that Society wants to exist and is strongly focusing on spreading Road safety awareness to all sections of society with unique ideas catering to each segment from school kids to corporates and society at large.

HMSI’s set of skilled safety instructors conducts daily programs at our 10 adopted traffic training parks (TTP) across India and 6 Safety Driving Education Centers (SDEC) to make road safety education accessible to every part of society, and the initiative has already reached over 92 lakh Indians. H MSI’s National Road Safety Awareness program made learning fun yet scientific through:

SCIENTIFICALLY DEVISED LEARNING MODULE: Honda’s skilled instructors set the foundation with theory sessions on road signs & markings, driver’s duties on road, riding gear & posture explanation and safe riding etiquettes.

PRACTICAL LEARNING: A special training activity on Honda’s virtual riding simulator was executed for all to experience over 100 possible dangers on the road before actual riding.

INTERACTIVE SESSION: Participants were given danger prediction training known as Kiken Yosoku Training (KYT) which helps enhance rider/driver’s sensitivity to danger and ensures safe driving behavior on roads.

EXISTING DRIVERS HONING RIDING SKILLS: Students & school staff members who are already existing riders tested & honed their riding skills through slow riding activities and riding on narrow planks.
