]]> PUNE: On the occasion of the birthday of the late Pt Shrikant Deshpande, grandson of Sawai Gandharva and disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi, late Pt Shrikant Deshpande Mitra Mandal has organized a program of Indian classical music ‘Sangeet Sandhya’ on Thursday 13th June. The program will be at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud from 5 PM onwards. The program is free and open to all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sheila Deshpande, wife of late Pt. Shrikant Deshpande informed that this marks the 12th year of the program.

In this program senior and renowned vocalists Pt. Dr. Ajay Pohankar and vocalist Pt. Dr. Ram Deshpande of Agra Gharana will enthrall the audience with their melodious renditions. Bharat Kamat (Tabla) & Suyog Kundalkar (Harmonium) will accompany both the artists. Anand Deshmukh will moderate the program.

]]> PUNE: Friends of Late Pandit Shrikant Deshpande would be organizing a special program titled ‘Sangeet Sandhya’ to commemorate his birth anniversary. The program will take place at Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium, Kothrud on June 22 at 5:00 pm. Entry to this program is free and the free passes can be collected from the auditorium from June 19th. This is the 11th edition of this program. Grandson of Sawai Gandharva, Deshpande was a renowned vocalist from the Kirana Gharana. He also served as the Secretary of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal which organizes the iconic Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav every year in Pune.

This year, vocalists Nishad Bakre and Vidhushi Manjiri Asnare Kelkar will perform during the Sangeet Sandhya program mentioned above. Nishad is a disciple of Pt Ulhas Kalshalkar and has also taken his lessons in music from Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, Dr. Arun Dravid, Pandit Madhukar Joshi, and Dr. Ra, Deshpande and thus has learned the style of Gwalior, Agra, and Jaipur Gharana. Vidushi Manjiri Asnare Kelkar is an acclaimed Vocalist from the Jaipur Gharana and took her initial lessons in music from the Pandit. C. T. Mhaiskar.

Bharat Kamat and Suyog Kundalkar will accompany both the artists on Tabla and Harmonium respectively. Anand Deshmukh will play the anchor for the event.
