The program is expected to enthral the music lovers for about six hours 2.30 pm to 8.30 pm and is free for all.   The effort is also to create a record to enter the India Book of Records.

The program has been conceptualized and directed by renowned singer and composer Girish Panchwadkar, founder-director of Nadsaptak Sangeet Vidyalaya. Veteran music composer Shridhar Phadke will grace the occasion as Chief Guest. Many dignitaries from the music industry and other fields of Pune will also be present. The songs will be performed by Girish Panchwadkar along with 40 students studying at Nadsaptak Sangeet Vidyalaya.  

Girish Panchwadkar informed that renowned artists will participate in the music arrangement which will include veteran keyboard player and music arranger Vivek Paranjape, young tabla player and  Director of Nadsaptak Sangeet Vidyalaya    Akshay Panchwadkar, Nagesh Bhosekar, singer Manjushree Oak and famous musicians.

Girish Panchwadkar further said that Pune fans will be able to experience many diverse songs based on Yaman raga including Bhavgeet, Bhakti Geet, Ghazal, Natya Geet, Lavani, Abhang, Abhang of Dnyaneshwar Mauli to songs of very famous Marathi poets and lyricists like Mangesh Padgaonkar, G.D. Madgulkar, Jagdish Khebudkar, Shantabai Shelke, as well as songs of Hindi lyricists like Sahir Ludhianvi, Shailendra, Gulzar, etc.,

Another feature of this program is that along with Marathi and Hindi songs, a program of classical music like Raga Tarana and Yaman Se Naman musical notes composed by Girish Panchwadkar

PUNE: The Mitra Foundation of Pune, in collaboration with the ITC Sangeet Research Academy of Kolkata, is organizing a two-day ITC Mini Sangeet Sammelan on 24th and 25th August at the Shakuntala Shetty Auditorium, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Erandwane, 5:30 pm onwards. The program is free for all on a first come first served basis with a few seats reserved for invitees.

Sharing the details of the program, Dhananjay Gokhale, Founder and President of the Mitra Foundation said, “On the first day of the Sammelan, young vocalist Sangborti Das will perform Khayal gayaki followed by a Dhrupad performance by Pt. Uday Bhawalkar. The second day will commence with a musical recital by young flutist Parmananda Roy while the sammelan will conclude with an enthralling performance by veteran vocalist Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar.”

On the Sammelan’s first day, Prabha Marathe, a distinguished Kathak Guru, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Mitra Foundation for her spectacular contributions to Indian Classical music. The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/-.

The sammelan will also feature accompanying artists such as Pt. Yogesh Samsi, Milind Kulkarni, Ameya Bichu, Swapnil Bhise, Pratap Awad, and Rohit Deo.

PUNE:  Organised by Pune-based Suhana Basant Foundation and Kannada Sangh, the 6th Sitar Nawaz Ustad Bale Khan Sangeet Mahotsav will be held on Saturday 22nd June and Sunday 23rd June 2024, from 4.30 pm onwards at Shakuntala Shetty Auditorium, Dr. Kalmadi Shamrao High School at Erandwane, Pune. Entry for the Mahotsav is free for all on a first come first served basis.

This Mahotsav is organized by famous Sitar player Rais Khan, son of Ustad Bale Khan in memory of his father who significantly contributed to instituting Sitar in south India. Sitar Nawaz Ustad Bale Khan belongs to the Dharwad Gharana and hails from an illustrious family of the Late ’SitarRatna’ Rahimat Khan.  

Speaking about the festival Rais Khan informed that in this 6th edition of the Mahotsav, special honours will be bestowed upon sitar craftsman Haji Ahmed So Abaso and veteran Taal percussionist Mauli Takalkar. Gayatri Devi Patwardhan from the royal family of Miraj, President of Kannada Sangh Kushal Hegde, Vice President Indira Saliyan, Secretary Malti Kalmadi, and other dignitaries will be present on this occasion.

The Mahotsav will kickstart on Saturday 22nd June at 4.30 pm with a performance of ‘Sitar Shashtak’ by the six Khan brothers- Ustad Chhote Rahimat Khan, Rafiqe, Shafiqe, Rais, Hafiz and Mohasin Khan who will be accompanied by Pt. Rajendra Nakod on tabla. The Shashtak will be followed by the felicitation ceremony wherein Sitar craftsman Haji Ahmed So Abaso and veteran percussionist Mauli Takalkar will be honored. The second half of the first day will witness the melodious vocals of Padmashree Pt. Venkatesh Kumar who will be accompanied by Pt. Bharat Kamat on tabla and Pt. Suyog Kundalkar on harmonium.

The second day of the Mahotsav will begin on Sunday 23rd June at 4.30 pm with the vocal rendition of Vidushi Sangeeta Katti – Kulkarni. Sangeeta Katti-Kulkarni is a Hindustani classical singer and also a famous playback singer and composer who is a recipient of the Karnataka State Rajyotsav Award. She will be accompanied by Pt. Bharat Kamat on tabla and Pt. Suyog Kundalkar on harmonium.

This will be followed by a soulful violin performance by Pt. Pravin Sheolikar and Chaitali Sheolikar. They will be accompanied by Pt. Rajendra Nakod on tabla. The festival will conclude with the captivating vocals by Pt. Shounak Abhisheki, son and disciple of legendary Indian classical singer Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki. He will be accompanied by Pt. Bharat Kamat on tabla and Pt. Suyog Kundalkar on harmonium. The two-day festival will be moderated by Anand Deshmukh.

MUMBAI: Renowned Indian music icon and sitar maestro Niladri Kumar has been honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar for the year 2023 by the Ministry of Culture and Sangeet Natak Akademi. This esteemed award recognizes his exceptional contribution to the field of performing arts, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career. The Honorable President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, felicitated the sitar maestro, at the Awards Ceremony held in New Delhi, on March 6.

Niladri Kumar is a fifth-generation sitar player, born to sitar maestro Pandit Kartick Kumar, a disciple of Ravi Shankar and a winner of Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar, and the President’s Gold Medal by Dr Rajendra Prasad in 1958. Niladri Kumar, who first performed on Doordarshan at the tender age of seven, has been breaking barriers and setting trends in Indian music. Taking forward his father’s legacy and carving his unique cult style, the maverick musician has been well-recognized at national as well as global forums.

At his age to receive the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar is a noteworthy achievement early on in his career. Niladri Kumar’s versatility and dedication to his craft have garnered him widespread acclaim across the world.

In addition to his collaborations with renowned musicians, Niladri Kumar has also made significant contributions to Bollywood, composing music for chartbusters with Arijit Singh and Imtiaz Ali.  With a deep commitment to his Indian roots and a forward-looking approach, Niladri Kumar continues to inspire audiences around the globe, solidifying his status as a true ambassador of Indian music and culture.

Ashwini Modak, a renowned vocalist, and a student of Padma Vibhushan Dr. Prabha Atre started the program with ‘Raag Puriya Dhanashree.’ She also presented ‘Taal Dadra’ in ‘Raag Des’ and was accompanied by Gangadhar Shinde (Harmonium), Kishor Korde (Tabla), and Akanksha Desai (Tanpura).

Dharwad’s acclaimed Sitar artist Ustad Rais Bale Khan also performed at the program. He played Alap, Jod, Jhala in ‘Raag Janasammohini’ and was accompanied by Kishor Korde (Tabla).

Shrinivas Joshi, son of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi concluded the program with ‘Sumaran To Ro, Tu Rahim Tu Karim’ – a Vilambit Teentaal in ‘Raag Yaman’, ‘Mori Gagri Naav’ a Khyaal and ‘Boli Na Bol’ a Bhairavi. He was accompanied by Gangadhar Shinde (Harmonium), Kishor Korde (Tabla), and Viraj Joshi (Tanpura).

Vidushi Manjiri Asnare Kelkar is an acclaimed Vocalist from the Jaipur Gharana and took her initial lessons in music from the Pandit. C. T. Mhaiskar.

Bharat Kamat and Suyog Kundalkar will accompany both the artists on Tabla and Harmonium respectively. Anand Deshmukh will play the anchor for the event.
