PUNE: Sportvista Foundation has announced the launch of the “SportVista Monthly Scholarship Scheme”, an initiative aimed at supporting rising table tennis players in the critical age group of 10 to 16 years. The scheme provides both financial aid and professional mentorship to young athletes across India.

Founded by three former international table tennis players and Shiv Chatrapati Awardee Sunil Babras, Aniket Koparkar, and Sujata Babras, the Foundation is committed to nurturing talent with a special focus on those from financially constrained backgrounds.

The SportVista Monthly Scholarship Scheme offers a monthly scholarship of between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 per month for a period of one year, renewable annually. In addition to financial assistance, the program includes mentorship in tournament planning and access to sports science professionals.

They aim to support players between the ages of 10 and 16. To be eligible, a player should be ranked in the Top 8 in India in their age group for the current or upcoming season. However, the focus is more on financial need. Among these talented players, those from low to middle-income families will be given preference for the scholarship.

Player selection is based on national ranking data published by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and on-ground observation by the founders. With their deep involvement in the sport, including frequent attendance at national tournaments, the founders can identify promising talent early. The Foundation also invites direct applications from athletes meeting the criteria.

Sportvista Foundation plans to support at least eight players every year, based on the funds raised through donations. The program is unique because it focuses only on players under 16 and is completely non-commercial. Since none of the founders are involved in coaching for money, the selection process is fair and without any bias.

The Foundation is already supporting two young players. Ankolika Chakraborty, India No. 1 and World Top 20 in U15 Girls, is from Naihati, Kolkata, and raised by a single mother. She will be supported to reach the World Top 5. Sreeosree Chakroborty, India No. 1 in U13 Girls, trains at DDSP Academy in Kolkata. She comes from a middle-income family and will be helped to improve her international ranking and join the India U15 team.

NEW DELHI: In a landmark move, after the successful implementation of Operation Sindoor, reflecting national gratitude and a commitment to educational inclusion, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has announced the launch of the ‘Jai Jawan Scholarship’—a 100% tuition fee waiver for all active defence and paramilitary personnel enrolling in LPU’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered in online mode. The initiative is designed exclusively for India’s 22 lakh active defence (Army, Navy & Air Force) and paramilitary personnel, including the CRPF, ITBP, BSF, and SSB, making it the world’s largest private scholarship scheme in education The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, chaired by Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Founder Chancellor of LPU and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).

Announcing the initiative, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal said, “No amount of salutes is ever enough to honour the bravery and sacrifices of our Armed Forces. This scholarship holds special national relevance in the wake of successful Operation Sindoor, where our brave personnel displayed extraordinary courage in response to the horrific massacre of civilians in Pahalgam. Their swift and determined action ensured the safety of the nation and reaffirmed India’s standing as a strong and resilient global power. These full scholarships are a tangible expression of solidarity—because true respect must go beyond words and translate into action.”

Addressing the media, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, made a historic announcement — the launch of the world’s largest educational scholarship initiative for defence and paramilitary personnel. This groundbreaking Jai Jawan Scholarship is set to benefit over 22 lakh active service members, firmly aligning with LPU’s mission to lead an education revolution and make higher learning accessible, inclusive, and empowering.

Dr. Mittal declared that every active defence and paramilitary personnel taking admission in the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 academic sessions (including both July and January intakes) will be eligible for this scholarship. “This is our tribute to the selfless dedication of our brave hearts. They protect the nation; it is our duty to empower them with knowledge,” he said.

LPU’s flexible UGC-entitled online degree programmes are tailored to meet the unique needs of armed forces personnel, who often face frequent relocations and operational demands. With anytime-anywhere access, online classes, and examinations, these programmes offer unparalleled convenience and adaptability, whether the learner is posted in Siachen’s icy heights or aboard a submarine deep in the ocean.

Highlighting the deep-rooted connection between LPU and the Indian Armed Forces, Dr. Mittal added, “Our relationship with the defence community is not new. The founder of Lovely Group once served as a military contractor, and we’ve proudly supported defence personnel for over seven decades. This legacy continues to shape our vision — to serve the nation through the transformative power of education.”

Both jawans and officers across all ranks are eligible under this scholarship. Those who have completed Class 12 can enrol in undergraduate programmes, while graduates can pursue master’s degrees. These qualifications not only empower personnel during active service by enhancing their knowledge and skills but also open up new career avenues after retirement, providing long-term professional and personal growth.

Speaking about the credibility of the university’s online offerings, he emphasized, “LPU’s online degrees are fully UGC-entitled and carry complete equivalence with regular degrees, as per UGC Notification F. No.3-5/2022(DEB-III) dated 2nd September 2022. They are not only recognized across India but also accepted globally, enabling eligibility for government jobs and higher education opportunities.”

Princeton—the world’s foremost centre for pure mathematics and physics—the home to Einstein, Godel, and Turing, will be the next stop for this teenager, Sarthak, the most scholarly pupil of Indian mathematician Yaashaa Golovanov.

PUNE: Emerging from a humble background, with his father facing intermittent unemployment after Covid, Sarthak has reached an extraordinary milestone in the realm of pure mathematics. Under the rigorous guidance of his mentor Yaashaa Golovanov, he has secured a prestigious full scholarship valued at 3.2 crore to pursue his studies at Princeton University in the USA. This esteemed institution, alongside the renowned IAS, has been the academic haven for luminaries like Einstein, Gödel, and Alan Turing, making it the global epicenter for research in mathematics and theoretical physics.

As a dedicated member of AMMOC, an international math circle comprising students from fifteen countries, he has achieved an impressive total of 60 international medals and accolades. Approximately thirty of these were earned at top-tier international competitions held in the USA, Canada, and Australia. Under his guidance, the AMMOC team triumphed in several prestigious university-level contests, including PUMAC at Princeton, CMM at Caltech, BMT at UC Berkeley, and SMT at Stanford—four of the most esteemed competitions both in the USA and globally. In 2025, he also surpassed the cutoff for the USAMO with an outstanding score of 275.5. Following the paths of notable alumni like Konstantinos (now at UChicago), Tisya (now at Caltech), and Adelina (at the University of Toronto)—all distinguished students of mathematician Golovanov—Sarthak stands as the last of the original four students recruited by AMMOC during the 2020-21 academic year. Each of them has received full financial support at their respective universities and is currently pursuing studies in pure mathematics.

Sarthak recalls how, after failing to clear the Indian National Math Olympiad (INMO), he was so disappointed that despite preparing for three years under Yaashaa Golovanov, he could not make it to the INMO and IMO. His parents developed doubts about his mathematical abilities and career prospects in pure mathematics. If it was not for the extreme insistence from his mentor Yaashaa Golovanov, who took great personal risk and a leap to convince his parents to continue studying mathematics at AMMOC, this fundamentally remarkable day would never have seen the light of day—given that Sarthak’s parents were keen on withdrawing him from AMMOC and placing him in an IIT coaching academy. Given such circumstances, Sarthak and his family say that the mentor should always take the final call about the academic and professional trajectory of the child. Regardless of how good expert parents could be in their domain, they can never objectively determine the true potential in a child, which only a true mentor like Yaashaa Golovanov can determine. ‘We completely submitted the life of our child in the ablest hands of Yaashaa Golovanov, Sir,’ they added.

Post his UG in mathematics at Princeton, Sarthak wants to earn a doctorate in pure mathematics. This way he would continue to advance the boundary of human knowledge through his lifelong research and teachings in a world-leading research university.

Outside academics, Sarthak enjoys playing guitar, visiting mountains, and trekking. His favourite song track is Hans Zimmer’s ‘Time’ from Christopher Nolan’s movie, Inception. He says it resonates with the idea that ‘we do not understand mathematics; we just get used to it.’ He loves playing with cubes of various dimensions, and he finds it very fascinating because he sees a deep connection between solving a cube and abstract group theory. He has written handouts about this aspect.

Sarthak has been a great enabler of social justice. He has been a regular teacher of Euclidean geometry for girls in a tribal school. In addition to this, he has been online-teaching group theory, a very abstract subject of university mathematics, voluntarily to select students from central universities. Since 2023, he has been a regular problem-solving instructor at AMMOC and he says that he would like to continually mentor and teach students at AMMOC because without this programme, it would never have been possible for him to learn such advanced and structured mathematics at this age and eventually find a place at Princeton on a full scholarship. He derives deep joy in demonstrating the beauty of mathematics through his teaching.

Under his research direction and mentorship, Yaashaa Golovanov did remarkable research projects spanning over two hundred pages of dense mathematics. Because of this kind of rigorous training, he once spotted a mistake in a graduate-level textbook written by Tom W. Korner, a mathematician at the Cambridge University. Sarthak emailed this mistake to Prof. Korner, who acknowledged and appreciated the work of Sarthak and extended his wishes for his further studies in pure mathematics.

Sarthak’s modest parents—Dr. Dattatray Dhobale and Dr. Jayashree Dhobale, both employed in health insurance consultancy, felt very emotional seeing their child’s truly extraordinary success because, for the last four and a half years, they were not in a position to know what was happening in the academic life of their child. Their faith was shaken once when he failed in the INMO. However, for hours they listened to clear strategies of Yaashaa Golovanov, and they decided to support Sarthak and his mentor’s endeavour to cultivate Sarthak into a great mathematician. They feel very elated and humbled to witness this and express their infinite indebtedness and gratitude to director Yaashaa Golovanov.

MUMBAI: Scaler School of Technology, a four-year residential undergraduate computer science program, has announced that it will bestow 100% scholarships (worth a whopping INR 15 crores) to the top 100 rated high school students at the annual Indian National Mathematics Olympiad along with those part of the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in the last five years allowing them to pursue Scaler’s Undergraduate Programme in Software Development.

Earlier this week, the Indian team achieved its best-ever performance at the International Maths Olympiad (IMO) 2024, coming in fourth globally. The team secured four Gold medals, one silver medal, and one honorable mention. Students across the country participate in several rounds – area, regional, and national competitions – before they qualify for the domestic training camp and eventually participate in the prestigious global event. Despite the prestige that accompanies this and other international olympiads, hardly a few thousand students aspire to be part of the initiative because a vast majority of students (and their families) want to focus on preparing for competitive entrance exams and other qualifiers for undergraduate degrees.

Scaler wants to encourage students to pursue excellence in the field of STEM and will offer them a 100% scholarship to the top 100 students who participate in the Indian National Mathematics and Informatics Olympiad and are interested in pursuing software engineering and computer science. Scaler School of Technology follows a detailed admissions process that includes written tests and interviews, the new-age education institute will waive the entire process for these students allowing them access to top-quality learning experiences at SST.

“India achieved 4th rank in IMO this year, despite only a few thousand students actively preparing for it across the country. There needs to be a serious incentive mechanism in place to motivate more of our bright students to prepare seriously for these globally reputed contests. We are doing our bit by empowering the top 100 students in India to not only get direct admission at Scaler School of Technology but also give them a 100 percent scholarship. I hope this scholarship fund gives young students another reason to prepare for more competitive platforms. I sincerely hope India climbs the ladder on these globally prestigious contests, and we see a rank one in the next few years.” – Abhimanyu Saxena, Co-Founder, Scaler.

Located in the heart of India’s Silicon Valley, Bengaluru, Scaler School of Technology is a fully residential and full-time bachelor’s program that offers specializations in new-age, in-demand technologies like Data Science, Machine Learning, Algorithmic Trading, and competitive programming. Learners will also participate in a one-year paid industry internship with leading tech companies and get access to one-on-one guidance from industry leaders in the form of mentorship. Scaler works with thousands of industry partners, including the top names in every tech sector like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Zomato, Airtel, Wells Fargo, PayPal, and others, for recruitment and other needs. SST learners can engage with these organizations for industry projects through the on-campus innovation lab, encouraging practical learning.

Students at Scaler’s Undergraduate Programme in Software Development will be eligible to enroll in a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science recognized by the UGC through a reputed institute. This degree will also enable students to apply for government jobs or Indian and overseas higher studies if they wish to. Additionally, they will also receive a Master of Science in Computer Science from Woolf University, which is licensed as a higher education institution in the European Union that works on ECTS – European Credit Transfer System. The master’s degree awarded by Woolf is globally recognized, with recognition from ECS and CES.

Together, we create opportunities to shape a brighter future for all. Supporting the establishment of the Formare program in India is a new milestone for us at Maxion Wheels”.

“The program aims to enhance the employability of underprivileged Indian youth in the region by connecting classroom learning with real-world workplace experiences. This will be achieved by incorporating university curriculum education at Savitribai Phule Pune University while simultaneously providing targeted professional and social skills training at Maxion Wheels’ facilities in the Pune area”, Rahul Vaidya, Managing Director of Maxion Wheels’ light vehicle aluminum wheels plant in Khed City, Pune, added.

Students will receive a comprehensive academic scholarship sponsored by Maxion Wheels. In addition to 100% tuition being reimbursed, they will also receive a uniform, transportation, meals, and a monthly stipend.

Unlike other educational scholarship programs in the region, Formare is not focusing on developing new employees for partnering, instead, it focuses on allowing participants to succeed in the job market overall.

Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna Pandit, Director of Skill Development Centre, Savitribai Phule Pune University said, “By focusing on job readiness and industry relevance, this unique program, set to start in the academic year 2024-2025 as per the National Education Policy (NEP) of the Government of India, opens doors to a wide range of employment opportunities, fostering a new generation of skilled professionals.”

Currently, the Iochpe-Maxion Group is running six Formare program units; four in Brazil and two in Mexico. India will be the first outside of the Americas. The Formare program has impacted the lives of thousands of young Brazilians and Mexicans over the last 35 years. According to a 2023 survey carried out by Plano CDE (a consultancy and research company focused on social impact), the Formare program is changing the lives of its students in meaningful ways:

89% of Formare program alumni achieve formal work positions in their first job.

90% of former Formare students continued to study with 71% pursuing higher education or post-graduate degrees, and 19% taking a technical course.

88% of former Formare students say they would not have taken the course if the benefits provided by the partner companies did not exist.

On average, after six years of completing Formare, graduates’ remuneration increased by 142%.

India was selected as a third country of operation for Formare to bring an educational opportunity to highly talented and motivated Indian youth with otherwise limited economic prospects. The program aims to support the Indian government’s EWS and skill development initiative.

Applications for the program will be handled by Savitribai Phule Pune University. The selection process includes an exam, conducted by the university, a counseling session, and finally a home visit by representatives of Maxion Wheels. The admission process and program will commence in the academic year 2024. To be eligible for the program, students require a 10+2 (Science) or equivalent educational background and their family must qualify for the Economic Weaker Section.
