PUNE: The Infosys Science Foundation (ISF) announced the winners of the Infosys Prize 2025 in six categories—Economics, Engineering and Computer Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Since its inception in 2009, the Infosys Prize has honored the remarkable accomplishments of individuals whose research and scholarship significantly impact India. The prize for each category comprises a gold medal, a citation, and a prize purse of USD 100,000 (or its equivalent in INR).

The laureates of the Infosys Prize 2025 were selected by an international panel of jurors comprising renowned scholars and experts. Since its inception, the ISF has recognized groundbreaking research and scholarship that have influenced various aspects of human life. From 2024, the prize has shifted focus to honor researchers under the age of 40, emphasizing the need for early recognition of exceptional talent. This encouragement of early-career researchers will serve as an inspiration for the next generation of scholars and innovators.

The winners of the Infosys Prize 2025 were announced by the trustees of ISF — Mr. K. Dinesh (President, Board of Trustees), Mr. Narayana Murthy, Mr. Srinath Batni, Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, Dr. Pratima Murthy, and Mr. S. D. Shibulal. The other trustees of ISF — Mr. Mohandas Pai, Mr. Nandan Nilekani, and Mr. Salil Parekh — extended their congratulations to this year’s recipients.

The Infosys Prize remains the largest award in India that acknowledges excellence in science and research. In addition, laureates of the Infosys Prize have gone on to receive several prestigious international awards, including the Nobel Prize (Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo), the Fields medal (Manjul Bhargava and Akshay Venkatesh), the Dan David Prize (Sanjay Subrahmanyam), the MacArthur ‘genius’ Grant and British Academy Book Prize (Sunil Amrith), the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (Ashoke Sen), and the Marconi Prize (Hari Balakrishnan). Several laureates have been elected fellows of the Royal Society, among them Gagandeep Kang, who became the first Indian woman to be elected Fellow of the Royal Society.

PUNE: Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune launches the 2^nd edition of ‘STEM for All’ from 28^th February to 2^nd March 2025, at the Kalpakghar Community Tinkering Centre in Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park. This three-day event is a significant milestone in promoting STEM education and is made possible through the support received from Tata Technologies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The ‘STEM for All’ theme, aligned with National Science Day, aims to empower Indian youth for global leadership in science and innovation, contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The hands-on tinkering Hackathon 2025 aims to empower educators, teachers, Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) mentors, and students with innovative tools and methods for teaching science and learning more effectively. During the hackathon, participants will engage in identifying four key components/issues related to design and technology projects:

• Problem-solving by other means
• Focus on product quality
• Tasks that require specialized knowledge
• Concepts and skills necessary for making practical projects

The activity features diverse STEM activity presentations from participants across backgrounds, fostering a vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas. The Hands-On-Tinkering Hackathon competition is one of the activities where students, teachers, and educators can get a chance to make working prototypes without batteries. Participating teams receive basic lab equipment and materials (e.g., MDF sheets, basic hardware tools, basic stationery, electronics components, etc.) and access to tools like online simulations, educational software, and virtual tools. Experienced teachers and education professionals provided advice and guidance throughout the hackathon. Short sessions on incorporating technology in classrooms, gamification in education, and best teaching practices were shared as well as a structured template to guide the creation of lesson plans for Educators/ATL mentors.  Participants stand the opportunity to win prizes for their innovative contributions, recognizing and encouraging their efforts in STEM fields.

Launched last August, the Kalpakghar Community Tinkering Centre, a collaborative project between IISER Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park, is funded by Tata Technologies under its CSR initiative. Henkel Researchers’ World focuses on sparking curiosity in children ages 8 – 10 years and takes a holistic approach to teaching and learning by putting children in the role of actual researchers. The Researchers’ World lab at Shardashram School can accommodate 20 students at a time. This lab will support around 40 nearby schools. Each session comprises a briefing on the experiment, equipment usage, and safety measures, followed by hands-on activities where students document their observations and discuss them with facilitators. Over a year, students will complete 12 experiments, guided by Henkel employees from Pune who volunteer as teachers at the Researchers’ World lab.

INDIA: Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) has announced the launch of Honeywell Quality Management Review (HQMR), a new application designed to significantly improve oversight of quality management systems (QMS) in the life sciences industry. By digitalizing and optimizing operations to increase productivity, the application supports Honeywell’s alignment of its portfolio to three compelling megatrends, including automation.
