PUNE: The Chrysalis Entrepreneur Forum (CEF) etched its name into global sporting history by achieving a Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Box Cricket Tournament on 15 February 2026 in Pune. This remarkable achievement marks the creation of a new Guinness title, as no prior world record existed for box cricket anywhere in the world.

The record-setting journey began with the formal inauguration of the Chrysalis SME League on 3 February 2026 at Bavdhan, Pune, signalling the commencement of what would become the largest box cricket tournament ever conducted.

The league brought together 66 teams, each comprising 11 unique players, with a total participation of 726 employees. What truly set this initiative apart was its composition – every team consisted entirely of employees from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Collectively, the tournament represented 30+ industries across Pune, Mumbai, and surrounding regions, celebrating the people who form the true backbone of India’s economy.

Founded in 2012, the Chrysalis Entrepreneur Forum has grown from a close-knit group of 15 entrepreneurs into a thriving community of over 1,500 entrepreneurs across diverse industries. The forum is chaired by Manish Gupta, whose vision has consistently translated bold ideas into large-scale movements that unite entrepreneurs and their teams.

Under Mr. Gupta’s leadership, this milestone marks CEF’s third world record. The forum earlier achieved a Limca Book of Records recognition in Skydiving (2014) and a Guinness World Records title in Scuba Diving. The Chrysalis SME League is CEF’s first land-based Guinness World Record, using box cricket as a powerful unifying platform to create collective impact.

The Guinness World Record certificate was awarded by Mr. Pravin Patel, Senior Official Adjudicator from Guinness World Records and a retired engineer from the Royal British Air Force, after rigorous scrutiny of the entire tournament. The Guinness guidelines laid down for the record were extremely stringent, and the forum adhered to them with uncompromising discipline.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Patel said: “The Forum has shown great discipline and enthusiasm in conducting a tournament of this scale. The minimum requirement for this world record is 500 participants, and the forum has successfully achieved it with 726. Guinness World Records exists to felicitate outstanding human effort, and this tournament is a true showcase of that—mobilising more than 75 organisations, 726 participants, and 135 matches played over 13 days from morning till late night. Indeed, a herculean task undertaken by the Chrysalis Entrepreneur Forum.”

The Guinness certificate was received by Manish Gupta, Chairman – Chrysalis Entrepreneur Forum, along with Rachna Gupta (Founder) and Vidisha Kukreja, Vice President. Chrysalis Business Solutions Pvt Ltd.

Beyond the record, the Chrysalis SME League served as a powerful platform for team bonding and organisational culture building. It offered employees a moment to recognise and feel grateful that their entrepreneurs and business leaders are investing in them—not just through resources, but through time, trust, and shared experiences.

The core objective of this world record attempt was to celebrate employees and strengthen organisational culture, using sport as a medium to build connection, energy, and team spirit beyond the workplace.

Reaffirming its belief that entrepreneurship is a key driver of societal progress, the Chrysalis Entrepreneur Forum proudly reiterated its motto: “It’s Great to Be an Entrepreneur.”

The successful completion of this historic record stands as a moment of pride for all participants—many of whom will forever carry the distinction of being part of a Guinness World Record—made possible through Mr. Gupta’s vision and the collective commitment of entrepreneurs who chose to invest in their teams.

Creating and using sustainability-related information supports SMEs to survive and thrive through better business. Professional accountants are integral to helping SMEs access the enablers of this better business.

MUMBAI: A new guide from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) recognizes the vital role SMEs play in the value chains of all organizations globally. Entitled ‘Sustainability reporting – SME guide’, it supports them in creating the sustainability-related information that regulators and stakeholders increasingly demand.

Sundeep Jakahar, head of public affairs – India at ACCA said: “In India, where SMEs constitute a significant portion of the business landscape, the adoption of sustainability practices is crucial. SMEs in India face unique challenges such as limited access to resources and capital. However, sustainability reporting can unlock numerous benefits for them, including access to new markets and better financing opportunities. For Indian SMEs, this could mean improved competitiveness on a global scale, aligning with international standards and expectations.”

Report co-author Sharon Machado, head of sustainable business at ACCA commented: “The creation and use of sustainability-related information helps SMEs, their advisers and stakeholders to see and take advantage of their opportunities and manage their risks. This will put SMEs in a much stronger position financially – making it easier to attract investment and obtain preferential terms of trade with suppliers. In the battle for talent, it will help them recruit and retain high-caliber employees.”

As the demand for sustainability-related information increases, all organizations must be ready to provide information related to their approach and progress in managing sustainability-related risks and opportunities. This demand extends beyond the organization to its value chain and comes from regulators, investors, and many other stakeholders. SMEs are in scope because they comprise 90% of all organizations globally, and so is an essential part of the value chain.

The enablers to better business that result from communicating and using sustainability-related information may help SMEs gain new competitive advantage.

Report co-author Aaron Saw, head of corporate reporting insights – financial at ACCA, said: “Although SMEs may consider these demands challenging, especially at times of significant financial pressure, evidence suggests the effort is justified. Therefore, we encourage all SMEs to take small first steps and do what’s possible in communicating sustainability-related information with a view of becoming better businesses.”

The guide is the latest installment in a series of sustainability reporting guides from ACCA.
INDIA: CRISIL, an S&P Global Company, has released its November 2023 outlook on interest rates. The report covers factors influencing the outlook, including the yield on the new 10-year benchmark government security, US treasury yields, and crude oil prices. The report also includes analytical contacts as well as information on CRISIL’s data and analytics platforms, ESG scores, company reports, and SME gradings.

According to the report, the yield on the new 10-year benchmark government security (G-sec;7.18% GS 2033) opened October at 7.23% and closed at 7.35%, up 14 bps from its September closing of 7.21% and outside CRISIL’s forecast range of 7.23-7.33%. In the first week, bonds traded largely with a negative bias due to a surge in US Treasury (UST) yields and crude oil prices. In addition, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) hinted at open market operations (OMO) sales in the future to manage liquidity in the market. This led the yield on the 10-year benchmark G-sec to harden by 14-15 bps. The domestic 10-year benchmark yield closed the week at 7.34%.

The second week started on a negative note, tracking a surge in crude oil prices amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and due to likely OMO sales. India’s retail inflation printed at a three-month low of 5.02% in September on the back of softer vegetable prices. However, as the week progressed, the bond market witnessed a softening in yields due to a decline in UST yields. The 10-year benchmark yield slipped and closed the week at 7.32%.

The report also includes information on CRISIL’s data and analytics platforms, including Alphatrax and Quantix, which enable clients to assess industry and company-level risks based on CRISIL’s proprietary models. CRISIL ESG Scores help benchmark companies based on their inherent ESG risk using public domain information and a proprietary framework. The company reports, which combine select financial and non-financial data, analytics from CRISIL’s proprietary risk models, and commentary on a company’s financial performance, are used by commercial banks, financial institutions, and non-banking finance companies as part of their credit/risk management process. CRISIL’s SME Gradings, used by lenders, assess the creditworthiness of SME enterprises relative to their peers leveraging CRISIL’s proprietary grading model.

MUMBAI: The Global SME Finance Forum 2023, a dynamic platform fostering SME financing, kicked off its three-day conference in Mumbai with a focus on digital ecosystems and the future of SME finance. The event is co-hosted by the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) and the Indian Bank’s Association (IBA), with over 700 participants from senior bankers, tech luminaries, and thought leaders from 70 countries and 250 institutions attending.

Dr Bhagwat Karad highlighted that “MSME plays a very important role in the development of the Indian economy. Currently, around 6.3 crore MSME enterprises are working in India and have generated around 11.1 crore employment opportunities. Around 30% of GDP comes from MSME and the growth rate every year is 10 percent. The government of India under the leadership of Hon’ble PM Narender Modi has been proactive in removing hurdles for the SME sector, and together with the banking sector, we strive to make financing easily accessible to fuel the growth of these vital enterprises.”

Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder and Chairman of the Board, of Infosys, said “SMEs are the biggest beneficiaries of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). India is building public trails to access credit and market-benefiting SMEs. More than 50 million merchants are opting for a digital mode of payment. Digitization helped us generate a balance sheet quicker as all the financial details like invoices, transactions, and tax credits are easily accessible. Digitization also reduces the turnaround time to get loans. In the next 5 years, at least 50 countries are going to implement DPI.”

The conference began with a panel discussion and keynote address by renowned speakers such as Mr. Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mr. Nandan Nilekani, Co-Founder and Non-Executive Chairman of Infosys, and Mr. Sopnendu Mohanty, Chief Fintech Officer of Monetary Authority of Singapore, among others.

During the fireside chat session, Mr. Nilekani highlighted the benefits of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for SMEs, while Mr. Dinesh Khara, Chairman of SBI, discussed the shift from collateral-based lending to data-based lending. Ms. Shalini Warrier, Executive Director of Federal Bank, emphasized the convenience of online payments through QR codes provided by UPI apps.

Dinesh Khara, Chairman, of SBI, who joined virtually in the session titled Unlocking the potential of digital platforms for SME financing said, “In the last ten years, we have witnessed a significant transformation in our bank. There has been a prominent shift from a collateral-based lending model to data-based lending, which has further assisted us in reducing the bank’s overall operational costs. Digitalization has also helped vendors make faster and more convenient payments, streamlining the MSME loan process. Additionally, digital platforms have been instrumental in catering to the needs of SME customers and creating value for them.”

Shalini Warrier, Executive Director, Federal Bank said during that same panel, “In the past, banking operations were primarily conducted manually. However, in recent years, a significant evolution has occurred, with digital technology taking the lead in the sector. One of the notable advancements is the convenience of online payments through QR codes provided by UPI apps. Nowadays, a substantial portion of transactions occurs digitally on a daily basis, surpassing other traditional payment methods.“

The conference also featured six SME finance innovators who demonstrated their technologies and explained their potential to change SME finance. The fintech invited to pitch were 360tf, Builder.ai, CredAble, ShopUp, Topicus, and Uplinq Financial Technologies.

Commenting on the Global SME Finance Forum 2023, Sivasubramanian Ramann, Chairman & MD, SIDBI, said, “I am grateful for the opportunity extended to SIDBI for hosting such a prestigious event that has witnessed tremendous participation of industry stakeholders across the world and encouraged discussions on very relevant issues and trends on the SME Sector. With India taking the presidency of the G20 for the first time, the country’s views, and outlook on the MSME sector are of significance for the world. The strides made by the Government of India in developing a robust digital infrastructure and the consequent digital innovation by various players in the MSME credit domain needs to be discussed, encouraged as also celebrated.“

Mr. Qamar Saleem, Incoming SME Finance Forum CEO, said, “I am thrilled to see the level of participation and richness of discussions during the first day of Global SME Finance Forum here in Mumbai. We have more than 700 executives representing more than 70 countries and 250 institutions gathered here. It is also fitting that the event is hosted by India which is at the cutting edge of digital infrastructure and innovations steering SME finance. I am really excited as the event unfolds which will feature over 90 speakers across 15 panels, 10 study tours to leading institutions in India, our flagship SME finance annual awards, and brainstorming sessions on key thematic game-changing topics. It has been a privilege to partner with SIDBI, and IBA as cohosts, and SBI as Diamond sponsors to the event and we thank them for all their support. SME Finance Forum and IFC remain committed to supporting the private sector globally in playing a catalytical role to support SMEs as they drive economic growth and create jobs”

The Global SME Finance Forum 2023 is a knowledge center for data, research, and best practices in promoting SME finance, established by the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) in 2012. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) manages the initiative, operating a global membership network of +240 members that brings together financial institutions, technology companies, and development finance institutions to share knowledge, spur innovation, and promote the growth of SMEs.

INDIA: FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., and Junior Achievement (JA) Asia Pacific have announced the winners of the 17th annual FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge (ITC) finals. The competition saw close to 5,000 participants from 10 Asia, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) markets compete for 60 places in the regional finals. The finalists presented their ideas to a panel of distinguished judges following three days of intense competition held virtually from August 21 to 23.

This year, the student teams of two were tasked with creating a market entry strategy for a product to address sustainable delivery solutions with Poland being the target market. With growing discourse among consumers on how products affect the environment and the role corporations should play in shaping a sustainable future, the challenge was particularly relevant.

The winning team TAVI, comprised of Nguyen Ngoc Linh from Vietnam, and Napat Worrasangasilp from Thailand, was awarded for their bio-degradable corn starch packing product BUFFERPUFF, which helps companies reduce plastic wastes in their delivery process. Team SUSTAINOVATE including Tsaqif Ammar Sakti from Indonesia, and Jeongwoo Lee from South Korea, were named first runners-up for their eco-friendly packaging material – Flexiwrap made of upcycled memory foam to protect ceramic products during delivery. Lastly, Team CRESCO comprised of Itsuki Son from Japan and Elyshia Alodia Binarto from Indonesia were named second runners-up. Their idea EcoFlow – a durable and versatile bio-styrofoam made from locally sourced rick husks, helps companies reduce plastic usage and meet local regulatory requirements.

Kawal Preet, president of the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) region, FedEx Express, said, “We are operating in a vastly different environment today. Businesses are balancing new opportunities brought by rapidly advancing technologies like AI with challenges posed not only by economic uncertainties but also by climate change. These fresh young minds bring disruptive and innovative solutions to real-world problems. Nurturing entrepreneurs has long been a key focus for us at FedEx. By providing the next generation entrepreneurs with the right platform and tools, we are providing experiences that will fuel the pipeline of creators, innovators, and future leaders for what’s next.“

The FedEx/JA International Trade Challenge program is jointly organized by FedEx and JA Asia Pacific, a member of JA Worldwide. Nearly 45,000 students across AMEA have benefitted from this program in the last 17 years. This year, over 150 FedEx volunteers from 16 AMEA markets mentored the students. In addition to supporting young entrepreneurs through JA ITC, FedEx has been organizing the Small Business Grant Contest (SBGC) to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across AMEA.

The event was a meaningful platform for raising consciousness, and awareness on sustainability, and building deep beautiful human connections. The next generation definitely has a lot to offer and make a huge impact on our society.

Judges of the competition, comprised of entrepreneurs and business leaders, were impressed by the organization of the virtual competition and the efforts made by the students.

Let us weave eco-conscious choices into our lives and nurture nature’s gifts. Let’s protect the planet, embrace renewable energy, reduce waste, and foster harmony. Let us share a commitment to a greener, brighter tomorrow.”- Calvin Lai, Director of Otaku House (Singapore)

“Truly honored to take part as a judging panel and in the development of the students from the 10 participating markets as they develop the plans, strategies, & innovative delivery solutions for the topics given.
