PUNE: In an increasingly fast-paced and digitally connected world, meaningful human connections often remain elusive. For 35-year-old Maheshwari from Chennai, the journey toward emotional well-being and self-expression took a transformative turn when she discovered FRND.

Following a difficult divorce, Maheshwari found herself navigating intense loneliness, stress, and sleepless nights. Despite being socially active as an influencer on social media, she realised that digital visibility did not translate into real connection. “You never really know who your content reaches,” she said, highlighting the gap between audience engagement and genuine human interaction.

It was during this challenging phase that a friend introduced her to the FRND app. What began as a recommendation soon became a deeply personal support system. Unlike traditional social or dating platforms, Maheshwari found the platform to be far more intimate and personalised, offering the ability to engage in direct, meaningful conversations.

From her very first experience, the platform felt like a natural fit. As someone who loves talking, Maheshwari enjoys connecting with people, sharing stories, and listening to them. Today, she spends hours daily on the app, primarily engaging in conversations that build emotional connection and understanding.

What initially served as a remedy for loneliness soon evolved into a sense of purpose. Maheshwari began using the platform not just to seek connection, but to give back – to influence, empower, and uplift others through her words. This shift from receiver to contributor became one of the most fulfilling aspects of her journey.

What makes the platform truly distinct for Maheshwari is the absence of judgment. Unlike other interactions, where fear of being misunderstood can often hold people back, she feels completely free to express herself on the platform. “There are no inhibitions here,” she says, noting how everyone brings their own vulnerabilities, creating a shared space of understanding.

While she initially approached the platform with hesitation, unfamiliar with such digital spaces, her trust grew over time. Features designed to ensure user safety, combined with initiatives like daily community sessions, helped her feel secure and supported. Today, she describes the platform as a space where she can be her most authentic self without fear.

Maheshwari leads a fulfilling professional life as a tailor. Yet, the platform has added a new dimension to her life, allowing her to connect with people beyond her immediate environment, all from the comfort of her home.

Maheshwari’s story is a powerful reminder that emotional well-being often begins with being heard. What started as a search for companionship became a journey of self-expression, empathy, and impact. In finding her voice on FRND, she has not only rediscovered herself but also become a source of strength for others navigating their own struggles.

PUNE: We live in an era where the average Indian professional is a walking encyclopaedia of financial terms, yet our retirement preparedness remains surprisingly fragile. While we can effortlessly navigate app-based investments and discuss global market trends, a peculiar psychological fog sets in when we look thirty years down the road. We are a nation that acknowledges the need for retirement planning in theory, but treats it as a “non-urgent luxury” in practice. This is the Awareness-Action Divide, and bridging it is no longer just a financial goal; it is a necessity for personal dignity.

Most Indian households fall victim to optimism bias, the deep-seated belief that “things will work out” or that a future windfall will solve our problems. We prioritize the “now” over the “later,” often diverting potential retirement savings toward immediate life-stage costs like lavish weddings or a child’s foreign education.

Anurag Gupta, Director & Chief Business Officer, Partnership Channel, Axis Max Life Insurance Ltd, said, “Data from the India Retirement Index Study (IRIS) 5.0 reveals a persistent Dependency Bias, with a significant portion of Indians still viewing their children as their ultimate safety net. However, as urban migration and nuclear families become the norm, this cultural contract is fraying. Coupled with Inaction Bias, the tendency to procrastinate because the goal feels too distant to be tangible, we find ourselves in a state of “disciplined delay,” waiting for a “perfect time” to start that never actually arrives.“

Decoding the Gap – The Math of Reality

High financial literacy has not yet translated into emotional ownership. We understand an “Annuity” as a product, but not as a future lifeline. To bridge the gap, we must look at the “hidden thief” of retirement: Inflation.

Consider the cost of basic sustenance. If your monthly household expenses, groceries, fuel, and utilities, are ₹50,000 today, the compounding effect of inflation (historically around 6% for basic commodities) creates a staggering future liability:

In 10 years: That same lifestyle will cost roughly ₹89,500.

In 20 years: It jumps to ₹1,60,000.

In 30 years: You will need nearly ₹2,87,000 every month just to maintain your current standard of living.

The IRIS 5.0 findings suggest that while India’s overall retirement index score has improved to 46, the “Financial” pillar continues to lag. Many Indians are saving, but they are not saving enough to counter the eroding power of inflation over a 20-to-30-year horizon.

The Health-Wealth Intersection: A striking insight from IRIS 5.0 is the rise of the Health Preparedness Index. Retirement planning is no longer just about “income replacement”; it is about medical dignity.

With healthcare costs in India rising at nearly double the rate of general inflation, financial ownership is your only shield against becoming a financial burden on your family. In Tier 2 and 3 geographies, the shift away from joint family structures means “Self-Reliance” is no longer a choice, but a geographic-neutral necessity. A medical emergency in your 70s requires immediate liquidity, not a piece of illiquid ancestral land.

The traditional Indian obsession with “Lumpy Assets”, gold and vacant land, needs a modern rethink. We often see retirees who are “asset rich but cash poor.” You cannot liquidate a small fraction of a gold biscuit or a square foot of land immediately to pay a monthly pharmacy bill or electricity charge.

This is the Liquidity Trap. IRIS 5.0 highlights that a vast majority of Indian retirement savings are locked in instruments that do not offer regular, predictable cash flow. The goal is to ensure the “kitchen fire keeps burning” every month. This requires a shift toward Annuities and pension products that provide a steady, guaranteed stream of income, ensuring your wealth is accessible exactly when you need it.

The Three-Step Ownership Roadmap

To move from being a bystander to an owner, one should follow this simplified framework:

The Mirror Test: Calculate what you actually spend today. This is your non-negotiable baseline.

The Gap Analysis: IRIS 5.0 shows that many believe employer-provided funds (EPF) are sufficient. In reality, these often cover less than 40% of the required retirement corpus. Identify your specific shortfall.

The Micro-Start: Ownership begins with the first premium. The magic of compounding values time more than the ticket size. Starting small today is infinitely better than starting “big” five years too late.

Perhaps the most telling data point from IRIS 5.0 is the correlation between planning and mental well-being. Early planners report significantly lower anxiety levels and higher overall life satisfaction. Retirement ownership is not just about having a bank balance tomorrow; it is about having Mental Peace today.

When you bridge the divide between knowing and doing, you reclaim control over your future. Moving from a “reader” to a “policyholder” is the single most important act of self-care you can perform. Start today, because your future self is counting on your action, not just your awareness.

PUNE: Mitsubishi Electric India, in collaboration with Earthwatch Institute India, commemorated World Earth Day 2026 through an on-ground employee engagement programme at Talegaon Dabhade Lake, near Pune, as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative on lake conservation.

As part of the programme, employees participated in a guided lakeside “Walk & Talk” session, exploring the importance of urban blue and green spaces using digital field guides and interactive applications. This was followed by a clean-up drive and plantation activity aimed at improving the lake environment. Employees also attended a session on carbon and water footprints, gaining practical insights into measuring and reducing environmental impact, supported by demonstrations of tools such as automatic weather stations, air quality systems, and water quality assessment technologies.

The programme concluded with a reflection session and group discussion to reinforce key learnings and encourage long-term behavioural change.

The engagement marks one year of Mitsubishi Electric India’s CSR initiative on lake conservation, launched in FY 2024-25 in partnership with Earthwatch Institute India. Focused on protecting waterbodies and strengthening surrounding biodiversity in Talegaon and nearby regions, the initiative combines ecological restoration with community participation and science-based learning.

Over the past year, the programme has included biodiversity mapping of multiple lakes in the region, development of digital field guides, and citizen science initiatives involving students, women’s groups, and local communities. It has also supported plantation efforts, environmental education, and capacity building to encourage sustained community-led conservation.

Commenting on the initiative, Atsushi Takase, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Electric India, said, “Through our lake conservation initiative, we aim to move beyond awareness and enable meaningful engagement with the environment. By combining on-ground activities with scientific tools and community participation, we are working to restore local ecosystems while helping individuals better understand the impact of their everyday actions. This approach supports long-term behavioural change and reflects our commitment to sustainable development.”

As climate change continues to impact ecosystems globally, Mitsubishi Electric India’s CSR efforts in Talegaon represent a sustained approach to building environmental resilience at the local level. The initiative aligns with the company’s philosophy of “Changes for the Better” and contributes to broader sustainability goals, including responsible water management and climate action.

INDIA: Nihilent, a global consulting and technology services company, is strengthening its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts through focused initiatives in education, healthcare, and inclusion across underserved communities in India. Guided by its philosophy of human-centric progress, the company is addressing critical gaps through technology, infrastructure, and partnerships.

Singh, Founder & Executive Chairman, Nihilent Ltd., said, “At Nihilent, our approach to social responsibility is deeply rooted in our belief in human-centric progress. Our commitment is to create lasting impact by empowering communities and ensuring that no child is left behind. Every initiative we undertake is guided by empathy and a deep understanding of real community needs. We remain committed to building a more equitable future where access to opportunity is not defined by one’s background.”

In healthcare, Nihilent is supporting pediatric cardiac care through its partnership with Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospitals in Navi Mumbai and Yavatmal. The company has contributed advanced medical equipment, including anesthesia machines and ICU monitoring systems, strengthening the hospitals’ ability to deliver safe surgical care.

Nihilent is also supporting life-saving pediatric cardiac surgeries for children with congenital heart disease, helping families from economically disadvantaged backgrounds access world-class treatment at no cost.

Further strengthening its focus on inclusion, Nihilent has partnered with the Ayodhya Charitable Trust, a school for hearing-impaired children. Through digital hearing aids, specialized educators, and computer training support, the initiative is improving communication, increasing classroom participation, and enhancing learning outcomes.

These initiatives reflect Nihilent’s belief that real progress begins with access to learning, healthcare, and opportunity.
By: Captain Indira Vashishta-Carena, Ex commercial pilot (Airbus-340, 737), Airbus 340, Boeing 737, Jet Airways; Benevolent Altruist

As society becomes more inclusive, businesses are recognizing the value of neurodiversity in the workplace. Neurodiversity refers to natural variations in human cognition, including conditions such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Organizations today are not only striving to create equitable workplaces that reflect diverse societies but are also realizing that neurodiverse individuals bring unique skills that drive innovation, productivity, and long-term success.

The concept of neurodiversity emphasizes that neurological differences are a vital part of human diversity rather than deficits. Individuals who are neurodiverse often possess exceptional strengths such as analytical thinking, creativity, and attention to detail. For instance, many individuals with autism excel in pattern recognition and problem-solving skills highly valuable across industries.

Despite these strengths, neurodiverse individuals have historically faced significant barriers in employment. Traditional hiring practices often prioritize social communication and conventional interview performance, which can disadvantage candidates who think and interact differently. As a result, many capable individuals remain underemployed or unemployed, despite having the potential to thrive in supportive environments.

In recent years, there has been a notable shift in corporate attitudes. Organizations are increasingly integrating neurodiversity into their diversity and inclusion strategies. This shift is driven by the need to tap into underutilized talent, foster inclusive cultures, and build workforces that better reflect diverse customer bases.

Companies like Microsoft, Mars, and Ernst & Young have taken the lead in this space. Microsoft’s Autism Hiring program focuses on assessing candidates through skills-based evaluations rather than traditional interviews. Similarly, Mars’ “Autism at Work” initiative promotes awareness and creates roles tailored to neurodiverse strengths, while Ernst & Young’s Neurodiversity Centers of Excellence provide structured support and career development opportunities.

The benefits of embracing neurodiversity are substantial. Firstly, it enhances innovation and creativity by introducing diverse perspectives that challenge conventional thinking. Secondly, it expands the organizational skill set, particularly in areas like data analysis and technical problem-solving. Thirdly, inclusive workplaces tend to have higher employee retention, as individuals feel valued and supported. Additionally, fostering a compassionate work environment improves collaboration and understanding among employees. Lastly, companies that champion inclusivity strengthen their public image and attract socially conscious consumers.

However, implementing neurodiverse hiring practices comes with challenges. Stigma and misconceptions often lead employers to underestimate the capabilities of neurodiverse individuals. Communication barriers in traditional recruitment processes can further hinder opportunities. Moreover, many workplaces lack appropriate accommodations, such as flexible schedules or sensory-friendly environments. There is also a gap in awareness and training, both for employers and employees, on how to effectively support neurodiverse talent.

To address these challenges, organizations are adopting innovative solutions. Inclusive onboarding processes, such as work trials and project-based assessments, help evaluate candidates more effectively. Partnerships with autism advocacy organizations provide training and mentorship. Additionally, neurodiversity awareness programs educate employees and foster acceptance. The rise of remote and flexible work options also enables neurodiverse individuals to work in environments where they feel most comfortable.

Looking ahead, the future of neurodiversity in the workplace is promising. As awareness grows, more companies are likely to adopt inclusive practices that benefit not only neurodiverse individuals but the entire workforce. Embracing neurodiversity is no longer just a social responsibility – it is a strategic advantage.

In conclusion, organizations that actively support neurodiversity are building more innovative, empathetic, and resilient workplaces.
PUNE: WingManX, India’s leading community-tech platform for motorcyclists, is set to host the inaugural WingManX Awards 2025-26 on 15 February 2026 at Hyatt Pune. The event is an exclusive entry by invitation only and will be a historic first for the Indian riding community.

Positioned as a national benchmark for rider-led recognition, the WingManX Awards aim to recognise the grit, discipline, responsibility, and community spirit that truly define Indian motorcycling. This is the first time in India that riders and riding communities will be honoured at a national level for the values they bring to the ecosystem.

Built from a rider’s need and shaped by a growing community, the WingManX Awards celebrate individuals and clubs that quietly strengthen the culture of motorcycling across the country.

The awards will feature 20 curated categories, spanning individual excellence and collective community impact, which aim to recognise safety leadership, long-distance riding, women riders, and community-led excellence. Some of these include Guardian Rider Award, Long Haul Legends, She Rides Free, Club of the Year, and Safety-First Club, among others.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Nilesh Sane, CEO and Co-Founder of WingManX, said, “WingManX started as a simple idea to help riders find the right people to ride with. Over time, it became a larger ecosystem built on trust, responsibility, and community. The WingManX Awards are our way of recognising riders who live these values every day and shape India’s motorcycling culture without seeking the spotlight.”

Echoing the sentiment, Urvashi Patole, Partner – Community and Marketing, shared, “These awards honour the consistency, discipline, and passion that often go unnoticed in the riding world. Motorcycling culture is always evolving, and the WingManX Awards are designed to grow every year, celebrating riders not just for how far they ride, but for how they uplift the community.”

Dr. Sahil Trimbake, Co-Founder of WingManX, added, “Motorcycling is not just about riding skill, it is about judgement, responsibility, and the ability to look out for one another on the road. The WingManX Awards recognise riders and communities who set these standards through their actions, not just their achievements. By acknowledging these values publicly, we hope to encourage a safer, more accountable riding culture across the country.”

At the heart of the awards is the WingManX app, India’s premier community-tech platform built by bikers, for bikers. The app provides a structured digital backbone to India’s fragmented riding scene, enabling ride tracking, club management, safety features, verified rider profiles, and community discovery. Recent features that have been added include rider badges, live group location tracking during rides, and peer-based rider ratings to encourage accountability.

With over 80,000 app downloads and 500+ riding clubs already active on the platform, WingManX continues to redefine how Indian motorcyclists connect, ride, and grow together.

The WingManX Awards 2025-26 are envisioned as an annual property, set to become the most credible and aspirational recognition platform for Indian motorcyclists in the years to come.

The Foundation will increase investment in India by ~25% and grow its India headcount by ~10% in 2026, strengthening state- and city-level execution to accelerate job creation, while continuing all programs nationwide.

NEW DELHI: Wadhwani Foundation, a global not-for-profit focused on job creation through entrepreneurship, skilling, innovation, and government digital transformation, is entering the next phase of its growth in India by strengthening execution across 15 priority city ecosystems in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.

The focus is on scaling outcomes through stronger execution, ensuring that national platforms translate into local impact. Scaling outcomes means more local jobs and more local people placed into jobs. This approach enables faster execution, clearer accountability, and closer alignment between local employers, skilling institutions, and job outcomes.

This phase builds on a solid execution base established in 2025. During the year, the Foundation invested ₹300 crore in India, supported 7,000 businesses, engaged 1.2 lakh entrepreneurship students, and made 2.5 lakh youth job-ready through employability-linked skilling. In addition to this, it also launched an AI-enabled My Career Advisor platform with the Ministry of Education, offering free, personalised career guidance to youth across 1,500+ career options.

Under innovation, the Foundation strengthened the Wadhwani Innovation Network, enabling 10 Innovation Translation Centres, including two Super Hubs at IIT Kanpur (Wadhwani AI and Intelligent Systems Hub) and IIT Bombay (Wadhwani Health and Bio Hub). Together, these hubs support 50+ translation centres across the innovation ecosystem. Overall, 100 research projects were advanced toward product and startup pathways.

AI projects were delivered for six central ministries; ASHA (Anna Sahayata Holistic AI Solution) was launched to enable feedback from Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries; and 30+ AI solutions were deployed across healthcare, agriculture, and education.

Building on this momentum, the Foundation will increase India investment by ~25% in 2026 and grow its India team by ~10%, expanding state- and city-level execution teams and deepening partnerships with governments, institutions, employers, and local ecosystems. Operating through a dual model for maximum impact, the Foundation’s national platforms will continue to provide scale and consistency, while state and city teams will drive delivery, coordination, and accountability on the ground. This includes limited role realignments to support state-level execution. All programs continue to be offered at zero cost to partners and beneficiaries.

Dr. Ajay Kela, CEO & Board member, Wadhwani Foundation, said: “Our mission is to create jobs and improve livelihoods at scale. Building on strong momentum in 2025, we are increasing investment and expanding our India team in 2026 to strengthen execution across states and cities. This will accelerate outcomes, creating more jobs locally and placing more job-ready people into them, as we progress toward our 2030 goals.”

With a sharp focus on moving closer to local ecosystems where impact is created and sustained, the Wadhwani Foundation continues its commitment to all programs across entrepreneurship, skilling, SMB growth, innovation, and government digital transformation.

That “Big Project” Feeling—So, What’s Actually Headed Your Way?

You’re driving home, minding your own business, then you spot a fancy new sign near an empty lot: “Future Site of XXX Power Plant.” Next thing you know, everyone’s chatting about it at the coffee shop, and maybe you’ve got a few questions yourself. What’s involved? Is it good? Is it concerning? Let’s talk through what actually matters when a power plant is headed to your area, minus all the jargon and panic.

The Basics: What Kind of Plant Are We Talking About, Anyway?

First up, there are a whole bunch of different kinds of power plants: natural gas, solar, wind, nuclear, hydro—you get the idea. It’s smart to find out which type is planned for your location, since each one works differently and brings its own quirks. Solar or wind? Expect a lot of panels (or big turbines) and a pretty small carbon footprint. A new gas plant? That means smokestacks, more trucks, and—at some point—a bit more scrutiny on air quality.

But no matter what kind, every plant has a few things in common: security fences, new access roads, and suddenly, a lot more brightly colored vests on your daily drive.

What’s Actually Going to Happen During Construction?

If you’ve never watched a big plant get built, here’s the deal. Months—sometimes years—of trucks, cranes, bulldozers, and construction crews rumble into town. You’ll hear the noise, especially early on. The traffic ramps up, mainly on weekdays. And construction sites are, well, a bit ugly before they start shaping up. Dust, bright lights at night, strange beeping sounds—it’ll all become familiar for a while.

The developers will also be working on something called the Electrical Balance of Plant (EBoP). That’s a mouthful, but it’s just the bundle of electrical systems that connect the main power-making parts to everything else so the plant actually works. It covers the wiring, switchgear, transformers, even backup generators—pretty much everything that keeps the plant humming and makes sure the electricity gets to the grid (and ultimately, to you).

How Will This Affect My Day-to-Day?

Let’s be honest—change isn’t always comfy. There’s the short-term hassle: construction noise, blocked roads, and maybe a little extra dust in the air. On the flip side, there’s usually a positive pop for local jobs, contracts for local suppliers, and the long-term promise of better electricity reliability or even lower prices (depending on the plant).

Some folks worry about health impacts, especially if it’s a fossil-fuel plant. It’s always worth asking city officials about environmental studies, air quality plans, and how they’ll handle safety concerns. If you’re curious—or skeptical—show up to a public meeting. This is exactly the place to ask questions and steer things in a direction that works for you and your neighbors.

What’s Going to Happen When It’s Finished?

Once construction wraps, life gets quieter, and the plant does its thing mostly in the background. Past the fences and humming substations, power is flowing, and your local energy grid is more robust. If it’s a renewable plant, that usually means a green boost for the neighborhood. Plus, new plants often chip in for community programs or upgrades (think park benches or sports fields).

Staying in the Loop

Bottom line: A new power plant can mean short-term mess and long-term perks (or, at least, more reliable lights on during thunderstorms). Keep an open mind, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to get your voice heard. And hey, you might walk away with some pretty interesting stories for the next block party!

An exclusive ‘Toy Donation Drive’ was organized under Duville Cares

PUNE: Duville Estates, through its social welfare brand Duville Cares, celebrated the festive season by organising a ‘Toy Donation Drive’ for the children at its labour camp, reflecting the true spirit of giving. This initiative was organized with the active participation and support of the Duville Envoy (existing customers). There was significant participation from the customer community, comprising nearly 6,000 residents across Riverdale Heights, Riverdale Residences, and Riverdale Suites. These Duville Envoys were joined by the Riverdale site office teams, who came together to bring joy to the labourers’ children.

This activity culminated in a heart-warming Christmas celebration at the labour camp, where the toys collected from the donation drive run at each of the resident communities were distributed to the children. The happiness on their faces spoke louder than words. Moments like these show how simple acts of kindness add real meaning.

What began as an idea to share the spirit of giving turned into a full-fledged ‘Toy Donation Drive’ from the existing customer community to the children on site. This reinforces Duville Estates commitment to building communities that go beyond physical infrastructure, fostering empathy, engagement, and togetherness across customers, employees, construction workers, families, and partners.

This initiative served very well to bring together the existing customer community from Riverdale while meaningfully bringing happiness to these children associated with the Duville ecosystem.

Speaking about the initiative, Tushad B. Dubash, Director, Duville Estates, shared, “It was heartening to see our existing customers come forward and actively participate in the toy donation drive. Their willingness to offer their children’s toys brought immense happiness to the children at the camp. It is these small gestures that help build a cohesive community, something Duville Estates continues to strive for.”
