MUMBAi: Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has joined hands with Aditya Birla Capital Foundation (ABCF) & Pilani Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Society (PIEDS), the incubator of BITS Pilani, to promote Innovation & Entrepreneurship among students in all National Skills Training Institutes (NSTI) across the country. NSTIs, under the aegis of DGT, provide vocational training to create a pool of Instructor trainees and skilled manpower for industries. At present, there are 33 NSTIs operational in the country, where more than 10,000 students are pursuing skill training under the Craft Instructor Training Schemes (CITS) and Craftsmen Training Scheme(CTS). There are designated NSTI(W) as well, which specifically focus on women’s vocational training.

Even though there is ample support for innovations to become ventures at the School and Higher Education levels, minimal support exists for the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector, which includes more than 13 lacs students enrolled in ITIs and NSTIs. The majority of the TVET graduates get absorbed in the industry, work as trainers or educators, or get into traditional self-employment trades.

Speaking at the launch, Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, MSDE, Government of India, said, “At the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, we believe that every skilled individual carries within them the potential to become a job creator. Through this partnership with the Aditya Birla Capital Foundation, we are enabling NSTI students to channel their technical skills into innovation and enterprise. The Navonmesh Protsahan Spardha will empower our young innovators to transform ideas into sustainable ventures, strengthening India’s vision of becoming an Aatmanirbhar and innovation-driven nation.”

The innovation challenge has been launched under the title Navonmesh Protsahan Spardha: Kaushalta se Udyamita, to nurture skill-based innovation in NSTI students. Being a first-of-its-kind innovation challenge, it will cater to 10,000+ NSTI students and will include mentoring, prizes, access to resources, and further incubation for launching the ideas of students in the market. The focus of the program will be students with innovative ideas in IT/ITeS, Automotive, Apparel, Electronics & Hardware, Power, and Capital Goods & Manufacturing sectors. Pilani Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Society (PIEDS), the incubator of BITS Pilani, would be managing this program, and is being supported under the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of the Aditya Birla Capital Foundation.

PUNE: India’s homegrown kids skill development giant, SIP Academy, has just crossed a major milestone — clocking 22 years of operations and expanding to over 1250 franchise centres across the country, making it one of the largest after-school learning networks in India.

The academy, which runs flagship programs like SIP Abacus, Globalart, MiKids, and CriCo English, marked the anniversary with a grand celebration at Grand Chennai by GRT Hotels. The event saw participation from top franchisees, alumni, educators, and partners — all part of a journey that has impacted over 14 lakh children across India.

Adding serious spark to the celebrations, SIP Academy announced three big initiatives that blend education, excitement, and environmental action:

1. National-Level Math Contest with an ISRO Rocket Launch as Grand Prize

The 10th edition of SIP’s flagship Arithmetic Genius Contest (AGC) isn’t just a competition — it’s a front-row seat to India’s future. National winners this year will be rewarded with the unforgettable experience of watching a live ISRO rocket launch at Sriharikota, bringing them face-to-face with India’s boldest achievements in science and space.

By giving children this direct exposure to India’s space frontier, SIP Academy is doing more than rewarding academic excellence — it is igniting imagination, fueling STEM dreams, and placing young Indians at the heart of the nation’s scientific aspirations.

2. Three New Miyawaki Forests to Turn Students into Eco-Champions

As conversations around climate change grow louder, SIP Academy is taking action by bringing nature into the heart of learning. To mark its 22nd year, the brand will plant three new Miyawaki forests in Kolkata, Thanjavur, and Sivakasi — dense, native green spaces created using the fast-growing Japanese technique.

3. New National TV Campaign to Spotlight India’s Brainpower

The new SIP Abacus television commercial, unveiled during the event, focuses on the real-life transformation of students to sharp, confident, and focused learners. With a nationwide roll-out, the campaign positions SIP Abacus as the go-to brand for parents seeking holistic development.

“In a world chasing shortcuts, we’ve stayed committed to building real skills, brick by brick, child by child. This milestone belongs to every student, teacher, franchisee, and parent who believed in our mission. Our next chapter is all about scaling impact — through innovation, sustainability, and a whole lot of heart,” said Dinesh Victor, Managing Director of SIP Academy

As it enters its 23rd year, SIP Academy is not just growing — it is reshaping the after-school learning ecosystem in India. With franchising success, social good, and scalable learning tools in its arsenal, the brand continues to prove that real education starts after the school bell rings.

Educational Session for Students Held by Jungle Belles under the ‘Supermom of our Forests’ Initiative

PUNE: In celebration of International Tiger Day today, the Pune-based Jungle Belles hosted a special awareness session for school students under their initiative ‘Supermom of our Forests’ at B.V.B. Paranjape Vidya Mandir K.M. Munshi Kaladalan, 4th Floor, Kothrud, Pune, to introduce children to the remarkable lives of tigresses and to foster a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation.

Paranjape Vidya Mandir’s Secondary Headmistress, Smita Ranjekar, Primary Headmistress, Abhijata Chavan, Teachers of 5th and 6th standards of Paranjape Vidya Mandir, Hemangi Vartak, founder of Jungle Belles, Sanjay Deshpande, Madhulika Tijare, Saurabh Chavan, Parth Salunke, Siddhesh Sonawane were present at the occasion.

Hemangi Vartak, through stories, visuals, and interactive discussions, brought to life the struggles and strength of the tigress, the top predator and arguably the most powerful mother in the forest.

She introduced the audience to some of India’s most iconic tigresses, including Chhoti Tara and Maya from Tadoba, Junabai from Tadoba Buffer, Mataram from Pench, Mausi Ma from Sanjay Gandhi National Park, K-Mark from Kolara, and others like F2 and Fairy from Umred Karandla. Students were shown photographs of these tigresses and learned fascinating facts about their lives, territories, and cubs.

She explained that a tigress usually lives for about 14 years. In her lifetime, she gives birth to 4 to 5 sets of cubs, with 1 to 5 cubs each time. Her pregnancy lasts around 3 months, and she takes care of her cubs for nearly 2.5 years. She raises them all on her own, without help from the male tiger. The tigress hunts, protects, and feeds her cubs by herself. This is why she is truly a ‘supermom’. She survives and raises her family using only her instincts and strong willpower.

The session also shed light on the conservation efforts of the Indian government, particularly Project Tiger, which has been active since 1973. Vartak explained how modern tools like GPS collars, mobile apps, and camera traps are now used to monitor tiger movements and ensure their safety. She also discussed measures such as forest patrolling, the creation of safe buffer zones, and community education in villages near forests.

Students participated eagerly, asking questions about tiger behavior, conservation, and how they could contribute to protecting wildlife. The session concluded with a message of hope and responsibility: that every young person can be a part of preserving the majestic tigress and her home in the wild.

PUNE: In a ground-breaking move towards experiential learning, four Grade VIII and IX students of Ryan International Academy recently underwent a 15-day internship with Helen O’ Grady International, one of the most prominent global creative education platforms. The internship was event management-themed and revolved around the grand-scale stage production of The Jungle Book, giving the students an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of big-scale theatre productions.

The experiential learning experience brought the students to the very center of theatre-making, where they worked on scripting scenes and dialogue, helped with backstage operations, and saw to smooth costume changes and handling of props. Their participation even went into technical processes; they learned to handle lights and sound, and even helped with digital editing and post-production processes for promotional videos.

Apart from production responsibilities, students also played a key role in managing guests and audiences. They assisted in greeting visitors, organizing seating, and facilitating communication among parents, artists, and the production team. All-around exposure exposed them to crucial life skills like leadership, time management, and teamwork.

Talking about the initiative, Principal Ruchi Masih, PrincipalRyan International Academy, said: “We are proud of our students for committing to this experience with such passion and commitment. Hands-on experiences like this one enable children to find their strengths, feel confident about what they can do, and see the importance of teamwork. At Ryan, we are committed to fostering well-rounded individuals ready to succeed in and out of the classroom.“

This internship was facilitated by the forward-thinking leadership of Chairman Sir, Dr. A. F. Pinto, who, with his encouragement for holistic development and experiential learning, continues to create purposeful opportunities for students of the Ryan Group.

Ryan International Academy would like to extend sincere gratitude to Helen O’ Grady International for guiding and mentoring the students in this memorable and inspiring experience.

Over 2200 school students and staff members empowered with road safety education

PUNE: Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reinforced its focus on road safety by conducting an awareness campaign in Pune, Maharashtra. The initiative engaged over 2200 students and staff members from Radiant International School, Shri J.R. Gunjal English Medium School and Junior College, Government College of Engineering and Research, and Gramonnati Mandal’s Arts, Commerce, and Science College equipping them with essential knowledge on responsible road behavior.

With a focus on early road safety education, HMSI designed this initiative to go beyond awareness and encourage a lasting behavioural change. Educating the students at an early stage helps shape responsible road users who can influence their surroundings. By engaging with schools, colleges and institutions —both government and non-government—HMSI continues to make road safety an integral part of everyday life.

The awareness campaign in Pune included safety riding lessons, danger prediction training, games, quizzes, helmet awareness and riding trainer modules. These interactive activities ensured that road safety education was both engaging and practical, helping the participants not only learn the road safety guidelines but also develop a sense of responsibility while on the road.

HMSI expressed gratitude to Radiant International School, Shri J.R. Gunjal English Medium School and Junior College, Government College of Engineering and Research and Gramonnati Mandal’s Arts, Commerce and Science College for its support in making this initiative a success. The enthusiastic participation of students and staff played a key role in spreading awareness about responsible road behavior and working towards safer roads.

Through its ongoing road safety initiatives, HMSI has reached nearly 3 lakh adults and children across Maharashtra, equipping them with practical knowledge to make informed choices on the road. With initiatives like these, HMSI continues to create awareness in promoting road safety and encourage responsible driving and riding habits for all.

In 2021, Honda announced its global vision statement for the year 2050 where it will strive for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles. In India HMSI is working in line with this vision and the Government of India direction of reducing fatalities to half by 2030.

One critical aspect of achieving this goal is developing a positive mindset toward road safety in our children by the year 2030 and continuing to educate them thereafter. Road safety education at schools and colleges is not only to create awareness but to introduce a safety culture in young minds and transform them to be the road safety ambassadors. It empowers future generations to become responsible and significantly contribute to a safer society.

HMSI wants to be a company that Society wants to exist and is strongly focusing on spreading Road safety awareness to all sections of society with unique ideas catering to each segment from school kids to corporates and society at large.

HMSI’s set of skilled safety instructors conducts daily programs at our 10 adopted traffic training parks (TTP) across India and 6 Safety Driving Education Centers (SDEC) to make road safety education accessible to every part of society, and the initiative has already reached over 92 lakh Indians. H MSI’s National Road Safety Awareness program made learning fun yet scientific through:

SCIENTIFICALLY DEVISED LEARNING MODULE: Honda’s skilled instructors set the foundation with theory sessions on road signs & markings, driver’s duties on road, riding gear & posture explanation and safe riding etiquettes.

PRACTICAL LEARNING: A special training activity on Honda’s virtual riding simulator was executed for all to experience over 100 possible dangers on the road before actual riding.

INTERACTIVE SESSION: Participants were given danger prediction training known as Kiken Yosoku Training (KYT) which helps enhance rider/driver’s sensitivity to danger and ensures safe driving behavior on roads.

EXISTING DRIVERS HONING RIDING SKILLS: Students & school staff members who are already existing riders tested & honed their riding skills through slow riding activities and riding on narrow planks.
