MUMBAI: The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the apex body championing the interests of India’s Automobile Retail Sector, has teamed up with Frost & Sullivan, a Growth Pipeline Company to spearhead an ambitious Customer Experience Index (CEI) Study. This ground-breaking project aims to meticulously analyze various aspects of the customer journey, encompassing sales, after-sales service, and product quality across the passenger vehicle spectrum.

In its maiden year, the comprehensive study will target the Passenger Vehicle Category, including Hatchbacks, Sedans, SUVs/MPVs, EVs, and Luxury vehicles, utilizing a detailed questionnaire to capture insights from 8,000 participants across 26 cities. This includes seven metropolitan areas, sixteen Tier-2 cities, and three Tier-3 locations, ensuring a broad data set that spans the diverse Indian landscape.

Manish Raj Singhania, President of FADA, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Launching this study marks a significant milestone in our continuous effort to deeply understand and meet the evolving needs of automobile consumers. FADA remains dedicated to deploying its collective expertise for the betterment of the entire Automobile Industry. Over the past three years, we have conducted the Dealer Satisfaction Survey (DSS) and recently launched a specialized DSS focusing on Finance & Insurance. Now, by incorporating this Customer Experience Index survey, we are broadening our analytical scope to encompass all facets of the Indian automobile ecosystem, thereby providing a comprehensive voice and strategic vision for all stakeholders. Partnering with Frost & Sullivan not only enhances this study’s credibility but also amplifies our commitment to advancing the Industry. The insights garnered from this expansive survey will directly inform and refine OEM strategies, facilitating tailored customer experiences that foster brand loyalty and satisfaction.”

Further emphasizing the study’s strategic importance, Vinkesh Gulati, Chairman of FADA’s Research & Academy, highlighted, “The Indian automotive sector is at a critical juncture, poised for significant growth amidst changing consumer behaviors and technological innovation. This Customer Experience Index survey is a strategic initiative designed to systematically harness customer feedback across a wide demographic, something that has not been undertaken at this scale in our industry before. By integrating detailed assessments of sales, after-sales & product quality experiences from various vehicle categories, we aim to provide OEMs and Dealers with the insights necessary to elevate their service standards and product offerings. This study is about transforming anecdotal feedback into empirical data that will drive operational changes and enhance customer satisfaction across the board. Our goal is to not only meet but exceed customer expectations, setting new benchmarks for excellence in the automotive sector.”

Aroop Zutshi, Global Managing Partner & Executive Board Member at Frost & Sullivan, said, “Transformation is imminent. Every organization and every industry needs to be agile to adapt to evolving customer needs to survive. India is poised to witness exponential growth in the automotive industry driven by the rising middle-income and youth population, adoption of electric vehicles, increased investment in the Indian automotive industry, and Government policy impetus. The Customer Experience Index by FADA in association with Frost & Sullivan will be a powerful tool for all OEMS and the Dealer fraternity to leverage.”

The Customer Experience Index by FADA and Frost & Sullivan is set to redefine industry standards for customer satisfaction and service excellence. The results, which will provide invaluable insights for the entire automotive ecosystem, are eagerly awaited in September 2024.

PUNE: More than half (58%) of India’s productivity is getting impacted as people feel stressed/drained out because of disturbed sleep due to mosquitoes. As a prelude to the upcoming World Malaria Day (April 25), this crucial revelation emerged from a survey report unveiled by Goodknight, India’s leading household insecticide brand from Godrej Consumer Products Ltd (GCPL). Titled ‘One Mosquito, Countless Threats’, this pan-India survey commissioned by Goodknight, and conducted by market research firm YouGov, examines public attitudes, and assesses the risks of mosquito-borne diseases. The survey report involved respondents across four regions of India – North (including central zone states), South, West and East.

The Goodknight report highlights that 62% of males and 53% females expressed that their productivity is getting impacted because of disturbed sleep due to mosquitoes. This is particularly concerning in the context of India’s recent economic surge, where a healthy workforce is paramount. As per industry reports, the economic burden of India from mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria alone is around INR. 16000 crores. As per various estimates, approximately 75% of the economic burden represents the loss of earnings by Indians and the balance towards treatment expenses.

Geographic zone wise, the West region consisting of states like Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, seemed the most affected with 67% people in the region feeling their productivity is getting impacted due to disturbed sleep caused by mosquitoes. Southern India comes in at the second spot with 57% people followed by Northern India at 56% and East region at 49%.

Ashwin Moorthy, Chief Marketing Officer – India, Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), says, “Goodknight’s ‘ONE MOSQUITO, COUNTLESS THREATS’ is a nationwide survey report that delves into public attitudes and evaluates the risks associated with mosquito-borne diseases. By such initiatives, our goal is to heighten awareness regarding the mosquito problem in India, enable families to act, and offer affordable yet innovative solutions to the country. In India, more than 40 million citizens are affected by mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, annually. Absenteeism from work, school, social and professional commitments due to illness, healthcare expenses, and reduced productivity, all contribute to economic losses. To maintain the productivity of the Indian economy and keep the GDP score ticking, what is needed on the ground is a steady and healthy workforce. One of the pragmatic ways of addressing this will be to resolve the rising trend of mosquito-borne diseases.”

Another noteworthy insight from the Goodnight survey is that mosquitoes significantly contribute to people’s inability to sleep well. Across India, on average, one out of every two adults (50%) identified mosquitoes as amongst the main reason for their sleep disturbances. Interestingly, West India (56%) agree with this statement the most followed by North (52%), South (47%) and East (42%). Furthermore, men (54%) are more inclined to agree with this sentiment compared to women (46%).

Commenting on the insights from the Goodknight report, Dr. Kirti Sabnis, Infectious Disease Specialist, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai, said, “It is critical to understand that a single mosquito possesses the potential to transmit life-threatening diseases. These diminutive, buzzing insects are the silent culprits behind the insidious spread of ailments such as dengue, malaria, and a host of other conditions. They can debilitate the immune system, rendering individuals vulnerable to other illnesses. This persistent threat not only compromises our health but also hampers our ability to lead healthy and productive lives. Safeguarding against mosquito-borne diseases transcends personal responsibility; it is a collective duty we owe to ourselves and our communities.”

Goodknight is actively engaged in raising public awareness about the dangers posed by mosquitoes and contributing to the national fight against these harmful insects. It has a long history of providing innovative mosquito repellent solutions like the Flash vapouriser and the Advanced Fast Card, protecting families from mosquito-borne diseases. Recognizing the recent health risks of illegal, unregulated, and Chinese chemical-laced mosquito repellent incense sticks, Goodknight recently launched India’s first government-approved, anti-mosquito incense stick, the Goodknight Agarbatti. This innovative product offers consumers a safe alternative to chemical-laden Chinese imports. The launch serves as a call to action, urging stakeholders to collaborate in the ongoing battle against mosquitoes and ensure a healthier future for India.

INDIA: A new study found that eating almonds reduced some feelings of muscle soreness during exercise recovery which translated to improved muscle performance during a vertical jump challenge. These results expand on prior research which looked at how almonds affect muscle recovery after exercise.

In the new research study, published in Frontiers in Nutrition and funded by the Almond Board of California, 25 mildly overweight middle-aged men and women performed a 30-minute downhill treadmill run test after eight weeks of consuming 57g (two ounces) of whole raw almonds daily. The control group ate a calorie-matched (86 g/three ounces) snack of unsalted pretzels. The treadmill test was designed to cause muscle damage to see how almonds affected muscle recovery.

Researchers measured participants’ muscle function; blood markers of muscle damage and inflammation; and perceived muscle soreness using a visual scale, before, during, and at three time points after the treadmill test. They also measured markers of cardiometabolic health, body composition, and psycho-social assessments of mood, appetite, and well-being at baseline and after eight weeks of almond snacking.

The results: Study participants who ate almonds experienced an almost 25 percent reduction in muscle soreness when performing an explosive power exercise (a vertical jump challenge) over the cumulative 72-hour exercise recovery period. The perceived reduction in soreness translated to better muscle performance during the vertical jump challenge in the almond group versus the control. No significant differences were observed in measures of cardiometabolic health, muscle damage/inflammation, mood state, or appetite for the almond group or the control group.

This study included non-smoking participants who were mildly overweight and occasionally physically active but were not trained athletes. A limitation of this study is that the results are not generalizable to populations with other demographic and health characteristics.

“Our study suggests that snacking on almonds can be recommended to occasional exercisers as a go-to food to help fitness recovery after strenuous exercise,” said Dr. Oliver C. Witard, Senior Lecturer in Exercise Metabolism and Nutrition at Kings College London. “Almonds are naturally nutritious with protein, good fats, and the antioxidant vitamin E. They can be considered an ideal food for fitness.” One serving of almonds (28 g) has 4 g of plant protein, 13 g of good unsaturated fat, and only 1 g of saturated fat.

Dr. Witard’s study joins previous research that examined how regular almond snacking affected exercise recovery for healthy adults who exercise occasionally.

“Sticking to an exercise routine is not easy, so finding dietary strategies to help people be – and stay – physically active is important for public health. Our preliminary findings are encouraging in showing that almond snacking may promote adherence to new training programs among people who are unaccustomed to exercise,” said Dr. Witard.

One ounce (28 g) of almonds provides 6g of protein, 4 g of fiber, and 15 essential nutrients, including 76 mg of magnesium (20% DV), 7.3 mg of vitamin E (50% DV), and 210 mg of potassium (4% DV), making them a great snack for healthy active lifestyles.

Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head-Dietetics, Max Healthcare – Delhi said, “Over the years, I have consistently recommended daily consumption of almonds to my patients, and the new study funded by the Almonds Board of California shows it is extremely crucial to incorporate these powerhouses of nuts into their diet. The findings of the Witard study, which suggest that consuming almonds daily can reduce muscle soreness and enhance muscle function, excite me as a dietitian. The noteworthy discovery of a 25% decrease in muscle soreness throughout the 72-hour recovery period emphasizes the significance of incorporating nutrient-dense foods, such as almonds, into a balanced diet to promote general health and fitness. The study also highlights the potential of almonds to encourage those who are not used to exercising to stick to new training regimens. Overall, as a dietitian, I strongly recommend incorporating almonds into the diet, as they offer vital nutrients, including protein, healthy fats, and antioxidant vitamin E, that are beneficial for both overall health and muscle rehabilitation when included in a regular diet.”

Dr. Rohini Patil, MBBS & Nutritionist said “As a nutritionist, I’ve long advocated for the inclusion of almonds in my patients’ diets due to their exceptional nutritional profile. This latest study highlights the importance of almonds in muscle recovery and performance. The significant reduction in muscle soreness observed in participants consuming almonds highlights their potential to support post-exercise recovery, ultimately leading to enhanced muscle function. Moreover, the fact that this improvement in muscle performance was accompanied by no adverse effects on other health parameters reaffirms almonds’ role as a safe and effective dietary component. I highly recommend incorporating almonds into your diet for their myriad health benefits, including aiding in muscle rehabilitation and promoting overall well-being.”

Overall, the latest study funded by the Almond Board of California suggests that snacking on almonds for eight weeks reduced perceived feelings of muscle soreness during recovery from muscle-damaging exercise, resulting in better maintenance of muscle functional capacity. This study suggests that almonds are a functional food snack to improve exercise tolerance in mildly overweight, middle-aged adults.

PUNE: Of all the sensations that an individual can experience, pain is the worst sensation. The pain management specialists do the important work of taking care of this pain. Pain specialists can make their life and future comfortable. This is a branch of super specialty and should be granted this status by the statuary body. Citing the recent example of guidelines for ICU admissions, he said it is high time we become proactive and as ground workers come out with our protocols and submit them to the center. This should be for every faculty.

Guest of Honour Dr. Vrushali Kinhalkar, renowned gynecologist and obstetrician from Marathwada said there is a deep connection between woman and pain, and this is evident during the labor. Pain is at the root of every creation. So the importance of pain is tremendous in the human mind.

Dr.Murlidhar Joshi, President of ISSP said that ISSP has 13 state chapters and 18 city branches with more than 3000 members. We are completing 40 years of ISSP this year.

51% of women prefer low-risk financial instruments like fixed deposits and savings accounts, while only 7% invest in stocks

Half of the salaried women surveyed have never taken a loan

INDIA: In a pioneering effort to understand the way urban Indian women plan, prioritize and manage their money, DBS Bank India, in partnership with CRISIL, has undertaken a comprehensive study entitled ‘Women and Finance’. The first of three reports was launched today, based on the survey that was designed to reveal the financial preferences of women, both salaried and self-employed, across various life stages. Over 800 women were surveyed across 10 cities in India on a wide range of behaviors, including their involvement in financial decision-making, goal setting, saving and investing patterns, and adoption of digital tools as well as their preferences for different banking products.

In the context of the stagnating rate of female participation in the workforce and a persistent gender pay gap, the insights from this study are pertinent for businesses, regulators, and financial institutions as well as a revelation when it comes to understanding the variations of Indian women’s relationship with their finances. The survey findings pointed to factors like age, income, marital status, presence of dependants, and home location as major influencers of the financial behavior of women.

Decision-making dynamics and evolution of goals

Whether it’s charting out their children’s educational paths or balancing multiple, competing financial goals, women are not bystanders, but are at the helm, shaping the future of their families. An encouraging 98% of salaried and self-employed Indian women actively participate in long-term family decision-making. The findings revealed that about 47% of them make independent financial decisions, a reflection of women’s growing financial autonomy. Age and affluence play a pivotal role in shaping these decisions. Women over 45 years old, with their wealth of experience, emerge as the leaders, with 65% making independent financial choices compared to 41% of those aged 25-35 years.

The report provides a fascinating glimpse into the growing empowerment of earning, metropolitan women. Across India, a woman’s primary long-term financial priority evolves with age. Buying/upgrading a home is priority number one for those between 25-35 years, while it evolves to children’s education for those in the 35-45 year category and to medical care for those above 45 years of age. Expectedly, retirement planning is seen entering the consideration set for the first time in the 35-45-year age cohort.

Crisil and DBS Bank India

Prashant Joshi, Managing Director and Head of the Consumer Banking Group, at DBS Bank India, said “The insights from the survey highlight the importance of financial stability in the aspirations of independent female earners across India. Ownership of financial decision-making, diverse investment and borrowing choices, and growing adoption of digital channels are all evidence that the modern Indian woman is not just a participant, but a planner of her journey. More than 35% of our own DBS Treasures customer base are female and we have seen many inspiring examples of how women can take charge of their finances. The DBS Women and Finance study is a step forward in the much-needed movement to a more equitable financial playing field and it underlines our commitment to enabling all customers to ‘Live more, Bank less’.”

Saving, borrowing, and investment behavior

Women earners in the metros tend to be risk-averse with 51% of their investments parked in fixed deposits (FD) and savings accounts, followed by 16% in gold, 15% in mutual funds, 10% in real estate, and just 7% in stocks. This tracks behaviors from DBS Bank India’s customer insights where 10% of female customers have an active fixed deposit, while just 5% of male customers have opened an FD.

The presence of dependents understandably plays a major role in women’s investment behavior. Specifically, 43% of married women with dependents conservatively allocate 10-29% of their income to investing, while in contrast, a quarter of married women without dependents choose to invest over half of their income. Regional variations lend greater depth to the insights. For example, Hyderabad and Mumbai lead the way in credit card usage, with 96% of women in Mumbai relying on credit cards, while only 63% of women in Kolkata use them. More significantly, the report revealed that half of the salaried women stated that they had never taken a loan. Among those who have borrowed, the majority opted for a home loan, which reflects the deep cultural importance associated with homeownership in India.

The study also deep-dived into women’s usage of different banking and payment channels. 33% of those in the 25-35 age bracket prefer to use UPI for online shopping, while only 22% above 45 years use UPI. This finding aligns with the customer profile of Digibank by DBS, the mobile-first, digital bank where more than 78% of the female user base is below 40 years of age. The report showed that UPI stands out as the preferred choice for urban women for a variety of payment needs: money transfers (38%), utility bills (34%), and e-commerce purchases (29%), signaling decreasing dependency on cash. Although regional nuances were stark in some cases with only 2% of women in Delhi opting for cash payments, while 43% of women from Kolkata favoured this option.

DBS has been a part of India’s journey since 1994, and it is the largest foreign bank in the country by branch presence with a physical footprint of 530 branches in 350 locations. With the study Women and Finance and its three-part report, DBS Bank India aims to gain a deeper appreciation of the evolving needs and aspirations of women in India to better support holistic financial management and growth.

Tata Consultancy Services Finds Business Leaders Are Doubling Down on Cloud as a Long-Term Catalyst for Innovation, AI-Powered Transformation, and Sustainability

NEW YORK: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) latest survey of senior business leaders worldwide, ‘Connected Future: How Cloud Drives Business Innovation’ reveals that cloud remains a long-term investment priority for 70% of major corporations, despite current macro headwinds and the recent slowing of the growth of global cloud providers.

The global survey of 972 senior executives reveals that innovation is a major driver of cloud investment, with 59% reporting that the cloud is crucial as a catalyst for innovation for their organization’s future.

This appears particularly true for artificial intelligence (AI): 75% of respondents invested in AI and machine learning capabilities over the past two years, while 78% plan to do so over the coming 12-24 months. Both technologies are highly dependent on access to large amounts of data and scalability through the cloud.

Interestingly, more than a third of respondents (37%) have made progress in their goals for cloud-enabled innovation in the form of new business models, underlining the growing power of the cloud to drive new revenue.

In addition, the study also finds a clear majority of respondents—67%—are using cloud technologies to achieve sustainability goals. However, 43% report difficulty in understanding the carbon footprints of cloud service providers. This suggests that while most respondents see cloud as an important—and thus far successful—part of their sustainability strategy, and increasingly use cloud tools to assess their own carbon impact, they are now demanding the same visibility from their cloud service providers.

Overall, despite significant progress in recent years, the study reveals that businesses still have a long way to go to unlock the full power and potential of the cloud. Other key findings include:

Industry clouds or ‘vertical clouds’ are rapidly emerging as a fast path to acquiring greater business expertise and capabilities, with an overwhelming majority of respondents surveyed (73%) reporting that they are already assessing, adopting, or using them in business today.

Companies want to participate in digital ecosystems, but most are still far from realizing their full value: 66% of respondents are still in the earliest stages of transition towards mature digital ecosystems.

Critical skills shortages continue to affect businesses in the cloud space, with over half (52%) of respondents reporting a lack of full cloud proficiencies in-house.

Krishnan Ramanujam, President, of Enterprise Growth Group, TCS, comments: “This latest global study strongly affirms that there is no business strategy without a cloud strategy. A desire for greater efficiency, resilience, and flexibility drove early cloud adoption, and these remain critical factors. Businesses now more fully understand how cloud drives business growth and innovation for the long-term, and for most, the journey is only just getting started.”

“Cloud is a frequent source of short-term ROI anxieties, but growth and transformation is a long game. Reconciling these two realities is a challenge and a necessity, but fully achievable with the right strategy and planning. This is critical because the cloud is now the unifying digital fabric of every enterprise, fueling powerful technologies—from generative AI to edge and quantum computing—and is ushering the next wave of innovations now and into the future,” Ramanujam adds.

The 2023 TCS global Cloud Study surveyed 972 senior executives at companies exceeding $1 billion in annual revenue from multiple sectors across Asia, Europe, and North America. A majority of the companies report annual revenues in excess of $5 billion. Individual markets surveyed include:

· Continental Europe (Germany, Spain, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg).

· UK & Ireland.

· North America (USA, Canada, Mexico).

· APAC (India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand).
