GURUGRAM: In a pioneering effort to make golf more inclusive and accessible, BMW India Foundation has joined hands with The Golf Foundation to launch ‘Golf for Everyone’ – a nationwide initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing golfing talent among underprivileged children.

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO, BMW Group India, said, “Golf has traditionally been perceived as a sport limited to the privileged few due to accessibility and resource constraints. The ‘Golf for Everyone’ program seeks to change this narrative by creating opportunities for talented young athletes regardless of their socio-economic background. By bringing golf to the doorsteps of underprivileged children, we hope to foster a truly community-driven sporting culture that celebrates diversity and equal opportunity. BMW India Foundation’s vision is to nurture projects that transcend socio-economic boundaries and become truly inclusive. We strongly believe projects like ‘Golf for Everyone’ hold that tremendous transformational power.”

As part of this endeavor, BMW India Foundation and The Golf Foundation are conducting India’s largest annual golf talent hunt for 2025-26. Through this extensive grassroots golf discovery program, the talent search will begin with in-school talent identification camps across government and low-income schools. To participate in the talent hunt, children can also WhatsApp “I am Talent” on +91 93106 92833.

Using portable hitting mats, nets, and putting kits, children undergo simple athletic evaluations such as throws, sprints, jumps, and coordination drills. This initial screening helps identify young athletes who show potential in physical agility and coordination.

Children shortlisted from these camps will progress to regional on-range golf camps, hosted at golf facilities across multiple Indian states. Here, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of golf and assessed for basic skills, creating a bridge between raw talent and formal training. Over 1,800 – 2,000 children are expected to be screened through these multi-stage processes, culminating in a National Talent Hunt that will select approximately 30 promising young golfers to receive advanced support.

The selected children will benefit from a comprehensive support framework that includes regular professional coaching, access to high-quality equipment, tournament exposure, mentorship, and financial assistance. This holistic development program aims to empower these young athletes to pursue golf professionally while also supporting their overall personal growth.

The ‘Golf for Everyone’ initiative not only aims to identify future champions but also strives to instill values of discipline, perseverance, and sportsmanship among the youth. By democratizing access to golf, the program hopes to inspire a new generation of achievers who will carry forward the legacy of Indian sports on national and global platforms.

PUNE: Sportvista Foundation has announced the launch of the “SportVista Monthly Scholarship Scheme”, an initiative aimed at supporting rising table tennis players in the critical age group of 10 to 16 years. The scheme provides both financial aid and professional mentorship to young athletes across India.

Founded by three former international table tennis players and Shiv Chatrapati Awardee Sunil Babras, Aniket Koparkar, and Sujata Babras, the Foundation is committed to nurturing talent with a special focus on those from financially constrained backgrounds.

The SportVista Monthly Scholarship Scheme offers a monthly scholarship of between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 per month for a period of one year, renewable annually. In addition to financial assistance, the program includes mentorship in tournament planning and access to sports science professionals.

They aim to support players between the ages of 10 and 16. To be eligible, a player should be ranked in the Top 8 in India in their age group for the current or upcoming season. However, the focus is more on financial need. Among these talented players, those from low to middle-income families will be given preference for the scholarship.

Player selection is based on national ranking data published by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and on-ground observation by the founders. With their deep involvement in the sport, including frequent attendance at national tournaments, the founders can identify promising talent early. The Foundation also invites direct applications from athletes meeting the criteria.

Sportvista Foundation plans to support at least eight players every year, based on the funds raised through donations. The program is unique because it focuses only on players under 16 and is completely non-commercial. Since none of the founders are involved in coaching for money, the selection process is fair and without any bias.

The Foundation is already supporting two young players. Ankolika Chakraborty, India No. 1 and World Top 20 in U15 Girls, is from Naihati, Kolkata, and raised by a single mother. She will be supported to reach the World Top 5. Sreeosree Chakroborty, India No. 1 in U13 Girls, trains at DDSP Academy in Kolkata. She comes from a middle-income family and will be helped to improve her international ranking and join the India U15 team.

The majority of Indian accountants see accountancy as a launchpad for entrepreneurship, with 80% planning a career move within two years

INDIAN: ACCA’s (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) latest annual Global Talent Trends Survey 2025 alerts employers to changing perspectives among accountancy and finance professionals, providing a unique view of how people feel about their life at work and future career aspirations

Now in its third year, this is the largest annual talent survey of accountancy and finance professionals across the world. Over 10,000 individuals from 175 countries including India responded to our survey on issues ranging from career ambitions, hybrid working and inclusivity practices to upskilling, mental health and employability issues. The India Talent Trends 2025 report gives full details on findings from the country.

Many respondents see accountancy as a gateway for entrepreneurial ambitions and skills. With 63% saying they have career ambitions to be entrepreneurs, it’s clear that many see accountancy as a natural springboard to eventually their own businesses in the future. This could also be good news for employers – there’s a growing need for accountants to use their entrepreneurial mindsets in many finance and business job roles where skills such as commerciality and innovation are prized attributes.

Md. Sajid Khan, Director-India, ACCA, said, ‘This year’s Global Talent Trends Report reveals a pivotal moment for the Indian finance profession. With a remarkable 63% of professionals aspiring to become entrepreneurs and 75% valuing hybrid work options, it’s clear that talent priorities are shifting rapidly. At the same time, a growing number, especially from emerging markets like India, are looking beyond borders, with 85% of respondents intending to work in another country. These insights underline the urgent need for employers to reimagine workplace culture, one that encourages flexibility, nurtures ambition, and builds clear paths for internal growth. Those who listen, adapt, and invest in the evolving needs of their people will be best positioned to lead in a competitive and increasingly global talent landscape.’

This year’s emerging key themes from India are as follows:

63% see accountancy as a springboard to running their businesses. This entrepreneurial mindset is highly valued by employers.

Demand for sustainability-related careers is flying high, with 74% interested in pursuing accountancy careers focused on environmental issues. Globally, 48% of wider leadership roles below board level and 35% of middle management roles in finance currently include sustainability responsibilities.

Employability confidence is high,h with 80% expecting to move roles in the next two years and 67% expecting their next career role to be outside their current organisation – a retention challenge for employers.

Over 75% want hybrid working arrangements, yet 41% of respondents are still working in the office full time.

The recognition of older employees tops the list of diversity concerns, with 55% saying their organisation focuses more on certain aspects of diversity than others.

The cost-of-living crisis continues to top our ‘workplace fear’ index, with 67% of respondents expecting a pay rise in the next year.

54% of respondents are concerned they’re not developing the skills required for the future workplace, and only 37% say their organisation is providing opportunities to learn AI-related skills.

Mental health indicators are improving slightly compared to previous years’ data, but remain challenging, with 51% of respondents agreeing their mental health suffers due to work pressures.

The ‘side hustle’ is on the rise. 32% across all generations suggest they’re now engaged in additional employment to their main jobs – another challenge for employers in terms of engagement and retention.

Accountancy remains a valued passport to global careers, with 85% of Indian respondents citing a desire to pursue career opportunities abroad at some point in their career.

Jamie Lyon FCCA, Global Head of Skills, Sectors, Technology at ACCA said: ‘Our 2025 data continues to show a workplace in transition, but one of the exciting themes emerging this year is how accountancy training can be a brilliant early career pathway for building entrepreneurial skills. There’s no doubt this in part reflects how career ambitions continue to transform at work.’

Inaugurated by Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Union MoS for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, the facility at Aero Mall aims to prepare youth for India’s growing aviation sector.

PUNE: In a significant boost to aviation skill development in Western India, Global School of Aviation, the training arm of Global Flight Handling Services (A concessionaire of Airport Authority of India for Airport Ground Handling at Pune Airport), today inaugurated its Pune training facility at Aero Mall, adjacent to Pune International Airport. Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Government of India, inaugurated the state-of-the-art centre.

The new facility underscores Pune’s growing stature in India’s aviation landscape, serving both as a key operational base for airport services and now as a hub for aviation training and employment.

“Pune has always been a city of talent and innovation. With the expansion of air connectivity under the UDAN scheme and the rise in passenger traffic, this new training centre will provide timely skilling opportunities for the region’s youth,” said Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Union MoS for Civil Aviation and Cooperation. “I commend Global School of Aviation for investing in Pune and supporting the Government of India’s vision of making India a global aviation hub.”

The Global School of Aviation Pune facility will offer diploma and certification programs in Airport Ground Handling, Cabin Crew Training, Airport Operations & Management, and degree programs in collaboration with AMET University. Plans are already underway to bring international certification programs from governing bodies and develop a fully equipped mock aircraft cabin to deliver real-world, hands-on training experiences.

“We are proud to launch this facility in Pune, which will enable us to meet our in-house requirements and provide the right platform to future aviators who are looking for an aviation career,” said Sarita Kumari, Managing Director, Global Flight Handling Services. “With over 400 staff working at Pune Airport—95% of whom are from the city and neighbouring districts—this centre is a natural extension of our commitment to local employment, skilling, and aviation excellence.”

Located inside Aero Mall, India’s first airport mall complex situated just opposite Pune International Airport, the training facility benefits from real-time exposure to airport operations. Trainees will be able to interact with professionals from Global Flight Handling Services, which operates across 23 Indian airports, including Pune, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra alone. As an airport ground handling company, we remain committed to expanding our presence across Maharashtra and other parts of India, continuing our mission to elevate aviation infrastructure and training standards nationwide.

The facility is equipped with smart classrooms and multimedia-equipped training halls, cabin crew training labs (under development), career counselling and placement support, and access to on-ground practical exposure at Pune Airport.

Pune Airport, one of the fastest-growing airports in the country, handled over 10.54 million passengers in FY2024–25 and is undergoing significant expansion. With rising demand for both domestic and regional flights, the city is witnessing a parallel surge in the need for skilled aviation professionals across roles.

The Pune centre is the second facility under the Global School of Aviation brand, following the launch in Chennai in 2024. Centres in Kochi, Ahmedabad, and Visakhapatnam are scheduled to launch soon.

Global School of Aviation is a vertical of Global Flight Handling Services, a group company of Updater Services Ltd., India’s largest integrated facilities and business support services provider with a workforce of over 65,000.

“This is not just a training centre; it’s a gateway to careers in aviation for thousands of young Indians,” added Sarita. “We want to ensure that anyone aspiring for an aviation career—whether on the ground or in the air—has access to quality education, global certification, and practical experience.”

PUNE: “Children gifted with enormous talent are important as they are the ones who are going to lead the country. So, early identification of the talent and nurturing the same in the right direction is of paramount importance”, opined Padma Vibhushan Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar after he inaugurated the International Conference on Gifted Education 2024. The conference is organized by The Kaveri College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune in association with Kaveri Gifted Education and Research Center (KGERC) at the Shankuntala Shetty Auditorium of Kaveri Group’s Erandwane Campus. Indian Council of Social Science Research has also extended support to this conference. Gifted education is the set of educational practices for students who are considered gifted or talented.

Sighting an example of Lokta’s Law of scientific productivity Dr Mashelkar said, “Children with high talent are difficult to find, but it is important to find them early and an effort should be made to unfold their natural potential rather than molding them for a particular subject. Innovation should be encouraged from the grassroots level and it should be by the people for the people. While dealing with the children today, we must consider the fact that they were born in another time and are well informed due to the digital tools at their disposal.”

“One must not forget that Education is equal to the Future and parents too have an important role to play in this regard. How to think and what to think is something that is required to be taught to children gifted with high potential. The growth of various countries was largely driven by diverse aspects. However, India’s growth will be driven by IT which stands for Indian Talent“, he added.

Malati Kalmadi, Founder and Director of Kaveri Gifted Education and Research Center (KGERC) said, “It is indeed very gratifying to see that Dr. Mashelkar inaugurated KGERC and today when we are celebrating 10 years by way of organizing this international conference, he is the Chief Guest. The attention for gifted education is increasing globally with over 21 countries in the world having policies in place for the same. NEP 2020 has some related elements but a lot more attention is required to create a thoughtfully designed structure and framework for gifted education so that gifted children get the opportunity that they deserve.”

“We have set up Talent Hubs in the institutions of Kaveri Group that focus on identifying potential on parameters like STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and Art sector at an early stage. Facets like spiritual and emotional well-being are also given due importance. Millions of gifted children from various parts of the country are waiting to be identified and nurtured. According to an estimate, the population of such gifted children who have enormous potential in India is in the range of 7.32 to 8.25 million in the age group of 6- 18, So collective efforts are required to untap this huge pool of talent“, Malati Kalmadi added.

‘Nurturing Buddhiman Children – A Practitioner’s Guide’ was released on the occasion. This book is jointly authored by Dr Devasena Desai, Dr. Sameena Manasawala, and Dr. Paromita Roy. The book is published by Kaveri Gifted Education and Research Center and Vishwakarma Publications. Dr. Sameeena Manasawala and Dr. Devasena Desai were felicitated at the hands of Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar for their outstanding contribution to this field of gifted education.

Dr. Heidrun Stoeger, Professor of Educational Science at the University of Regensburg, Germany delivered the Keynote address on the topic ‘Mentoring and its Significance for Talent Development’.

Kushal Hegde, President Kannada Sangha, Pune was present on the occasion along with Balajit Shetty, Dr. Devasena Desai, Dr. Mukta Karmarkar, and Sumathi Srinivasan from the Kaveri Group of Institutes. Deepa Sathe anchored the program
