INDIA: Amid accelerating technological disruption, rising citizen expectations, and increasing fiscal and cyber pressures, KPMG International’s Global Tech Report 2026 – Government and Public Sector reveals a sector at a pivotal moment—moving beyond siloed digital modernisation programmes towards outcome‑led, mission‑driven technology transformation that delivers sustained public value.

The report captures insights from 115 government leaders, executives, and technology decision‑makers from around the world, offering a focused view of how public sector organisations are embracing artificial intelligence (AI), data, cybersecurity, and digital foundations while grappling with challenges around scale, skills, and governance.

As governments accelerate toward a more digital, data‑driven future, the research highlights a clear shift from tactical projects to enterprise‑wide transformation. While AI and cybersecurity remain high on the agenda, leaders are placing renewed emphasis on strengthening core digital foundations, including cloud platforms, enterprise systems, data management capabilities, workforce skills, and ecosystem partnerships, to build resilience and improve service delivery in an increasingly complex environment.

The findings underscore that ambition continues to outpace execution. Many public sector organisations are still constrained by fragmented data environments, organisational silos, legacy technology debt, and talent shortages, limiting their ability to scale pilots and convert innovation into sustained, measurable impact. In response, leading governments are sharpening their technology strategies, adopting citizen‑centric design principles, and forming trusted, outcome‑focused partnerships to accelerate execution, strengthen delivery confidence, and unlock long‑term public value and trust.

Nilachal Mishra – Partner and Head, Government and Public Services, KPMG in India, said, “India’s public sector stands at a critical juncture as it moves from digital implementation to intelligent, outcome-led transformation. While AI, data, and cloud provide the technological impetus, lasting impact will depend on three foundations: robust digital infrastructure, seamless institutional integration, and trusted cross-sector partnerships. By embedding citizen-centric design, responsible AI, and resilient operating models into the core of government, India can accelerate execution, enhance public trust, and deliver long-term value at scale“.

Key findings from the Global Tech Report 2026 – Government and Public Sector include:

89 per cent describe themselves as technology innovators or fast followers, signaling strong transformation intent

86 per cent believe managing AI agents will become an important workforce skill within the next five years, reinforcing the urgency of talent and capability transformation

64 per cent plan to increase investment in cybersecurity over the coming year, reflecting heightened risk and threat awareness

59 per cent expect to increase budgets for data and analytics, many by more than 10 per cent, to improve insight‑driven decision‑making

55 per cent say they are getting 40 per cent or more of their financial value from foundational and core tech

48 per cent of government respondents say they will be deploying AI use cases into production at scale within the next 12 months

43 per cent admit they are hitting roadblocks in scaling digital and AI initiatives across the enterprise

40 per cent anticipate spending more than 40 per cent of their technology budgets on maintaining legacy environments, highlighting the drag of technical debt

Taken together, the insights point to a government and public sector at a critical inflection point. Those organisations that invest in strong digital foundations, responsible and scalable AI, cyber resilience, and workforce capability—while maintaining a human‑centric, outcomes‑driven approach—will be best positioned to deliver trusted, resilient, and citizen‑focused services in the Intelligence Age.

₹300 Mn investment fuels quality, automation & Bata’s vision to make in India, for the world!

KOLKATA: As part of the brand’s transformation journey, Bata India, the most iconic and trusted footwear brand, has taken a significant leap in its transformation journey with a ₹300 million investment in its Batanagar factory, reinforcing its commitment to manufacturing excellence & global competitiveness.

At the helm of this investment is the installation of the state-of-the-art PUDIP (Polyurethane Direct Injection Process) & IM EVA machines used for manufacturing Floatz & Bata Industrial footwear. These next-generation systems feature robotic spraying, automated roughening arms, and mould handling processes that raise the bar on product consistency, precision, and production efficiency.

“This investment reflects our deep commitment to modernising our manufacturing and leading with quality,” said Anjan Kundu, Head – Supply Chain Management, Bata India Ltd.

Kundu adds, “We are bringing back the glory to Batanagar as part of our transformation journey, which is rooted in a deep commitment to quality, innovation, and customer experience. By investing in advanced machines at Batanagar, we are ensuring that Bata continues to lead, adapt, and serve as a benchmark for footwear manufacturing in India. This expansion not only strengthens our operations but also sets new standards for the industry.”

The factory follows comprehensive Safety Management systems to ensure the highest standards of health & safety protocols for a safe working environment for all employees. The Batanagar factory is a symbol of industrial transformation for not just West Bengal but for India. Thomas Bata’s historic visit in the 1930s catalyzed the creation of the exclusive township of Batanagar, an essential turning point for the state’s industrial landscape. Bata’s factory units revolutionized the region’s capabilities, supporting Bengal’s evolution into an export hub and a center of shoemaking excellence.

Approximately 130 new stores opened in the past year, with over 50% located in smaller towns, bringing global styles and comfort technology to ‘Bharat.’ With more than 500+ stores, Bata India is also rapidly expanding its Franchise network across smaller towns and cities to democratize fashion, providing entrepreneurial opportunities for many. Bata continues to support communities through its Bata Children’s Program, empowering underserved children across India with access to education, mentorship, and footwear—symbolising the brand’s ongoing commitment to inclusive growth and positive social impact.

With a sharpened focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation, Bata India is redefining what it means to be a heritage brand ready for the future—boldly stepping forward to ‘Shoe the World’ from India.

For thousands of years, farming has played a key role in shaping our societies. It’s grown from simple hand tools to complex tech solutions. Nowadays, the digital world holds vast opportunities for modernizing farming.

However, there is still a big disconnect between high-tech creators and traditional farmers. This is where education about agriculture can step in. It could be the link we need! Let’s dive into how learning more about farming could help us bring technology onto farms easily, boosting work rate and eco-friendliness.

Understanding the Farmers’ Perspective

So, the first thing we need to do is understand. Lots of farmers work based on what’s been passed down through their families, hard-won knowledge, and years of experience. This hands-on know-how can’t be beaten, but it might not include recent tech advances. Some farmers hesitate to use these new tools because they don’t fully grasp how beneficial they are or simply fear trying something unfamiliar.

That’s where agri-education comes in handy! It offers programs that help teach about fresh advancements related to farming technology. By providing context and demonstrating the tangible benefits of these innovations, educational initiatives can demystify technology for farmers, fostering an environment of trust and openness.

The Role of Agri-Tech Innovators

Now, looking at it from the other angle. Tech creators sometimes miss out on what day-to-day farming looks like. Their solutions may be cutting-edge but might not always fit with how a farm runs.

Agri-education can smooth this over, too, by providing courses and training sessions that tackle agriculture basics. Things such as understanding crop cycles or soil health are all key topics covered in these workshops. When tech folks know more about what unique issues farmers face daily, they’re better placed to create practical technology tailored for real-life use on farms.

Tailoring Education to Local Needs

There’s no one-size-fits-all in farming. With so many differences, like climate, crops, and how we farm, education needs to be personalized. So, agri-education programs should focus on what matters most to local farmers.

This way, the lessons stay rooted locally, making them easier for farmers to apply daily. Tailoring can also help pick tech tools that are right at home with each unique farming scenario, which makes it much easier for acceptance while boosting their impact.

Integrating Innovative Technologies

Agri-education’s end game is getting tech and farming to work together seamlessly. Here, they dive deep into specific tools like precision agriculture gear and systems that monitor using IoT technology.

They also cover sustainable methods, such as hydroponic chillers used for temperature control in indoor farms. Imagine how plants would thrive with ideal water temperature. This kind of stuff can spark interest among farmers who are looking ahead.

These detailed sessions provide not just know-how but hands-on experience, too. This is key when it comes to getting these new technologies working out there on the field.

Conclusion

So, to wrap it up, agri-education is the secret sauce that brings together farmers and tech creators. By encouraging understanding, making learning relatable locally, and giving a taste of what new tools offer hands-on, these educational initiatives are bridging gaps in big ways. This could mean brighter days ahead full of prosperity for agriculture, where sustainability takes center stage.
