Collaboration aims to bridge India’s education-employment gap by embedding hands-on industry training into degree and diploma programs

PUNE: In a significant move to equip India’s youth with industry-relevant skills, Medhavi Skills University (MSU) has partnered with BVG Skill Academy and BVG Security Services Pvt. Ltd.

To integrate practical, on-the-job learning into formal academic programs. This collaboration aims to bridge the education-to-employment gap by ensuring learners are equipped with both recognized qualifications and real-world industry experience.

Pravesh Dudani, Founder and Chancellor, MSU, emphasized, “This collaboration is a step towards transforming education from a theoretical pursuit to a practical pathway for employment. By integrating real work experience into formal degrees, we are equipping students with industry-relevant skills.”

Kuldip Sarma, Co-Founder and Pro-Chancellor, Medhavi Skills University, said, “MSU’s focus is not just on creating job seekers, but on nurturing confident, skilled professionals ready to contribute from day one. Our collaboration with BVG marks a milestone in our mission, bringing together two like-minded organizations committed to empowering youth towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Under the partnership with BVG Skill Academy, Medhavi Skills University will offer a range of work-integrated programs, including vocational degrees (Bachelor of Vocation & Master of Vocation), diplomas, and short-term certifications. These programs will combine structured on-the-job training with academic classes and mentoring, ensuring students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on experience.

MSU’s Learning Management System (LMS) enables real-time progress tracking and personalized academic support for students. The collaboration is centered on co-creating industry-integrated, National Education Policy 2020-aligned curricula to equip students with skills that are not just academically recognized but immediately relevant and applicable in today’s dynamic workplace.

“Skill development is not just a necessity; it’s a national priority. When academia and industry join forces, the result is transformative learning that prepares students for real-world challenges. Our partnership with Medhavi Skills University is designed to create career pathways that go beyond certifications. We’re committed to building capable professionals and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow,” said Hanmantrao Gaikwad, Founder, Chairman, and Managing Director, BVG India Limited.

India’s youth unemployment crisis is deeply rooted in the disconnect between academic qualifications and industry requirements. Recognizing this, Medhavi Skills University (MSU) has integrated work-based learning into its degree and diploma programs, ensuring students are job-ready from the very start of their education journey.

Through this new partnership with BVG Security Services, learners will receive practical, hands-on training across real-world operational environments, including security management, facilities services, and infrastructure support while pursuing their formal academic curriculum in real-life. This program is especially beneficial for 10th and 12th-year students, providing them with an opportunity to earn skill-based qualifications while gaining valuable work experience, thereby enhancing their employability and career prospects.

This collaboration exemplifies how higher education can evolve to meet the aspirations of India’s youth. By integrating employability into the learning journey, MSU and BVG are setting a precedent for industry-academia partnerships focused on inclusion, quality, and long-term societal impact.

MUMBAI: Reinforcing its commitment to capacity building and citizen-centric governance, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) successfully concluded the three-day Master Trainer Program on July 9, 2025, at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi, under Phase-2 of the Rashtriya Karmayogi Seva-Bhav Training, a key initiative of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) under the larger Mission Karmayogi framework.

The program trained 28 nominated officers from MSDE’s field institutions, including DGT, RDSDEs, NSTIs, NIMI, CSTARI, and NCVET, as Master Trainers. These officers were trained by Shri Pritam Dutta, Director, MSDE, and Shri T. Ragulan, Director, CSTARI, both of whom were empanelled as Lead Trainers by CBC in May 2025.

Over three intensive days, the training equipped officers with tools to foster a spirit of Seva-Bhav (spirit of service), promote purpose-driven public service, and deepen inter-institutional collaboration. Designed around four structured modules, the training focused on realigning mindsets, encouraging inter-departmental cooperation, and strengthening the sense of accountability among officials. Through case discussions, peer-sharing, and reflective dialogue, participants explored how they could contribute more meaningfully to public service delivery.

These 28 officers will now act as catalysts for change by conducting one-day Seva-Bhav workshops in their respective field institutions, ensuring the message of citizen-first service percolates to every official across the MSDE ecosystem.

Reflecting on the session, Shri Rajit Punhani, Secretary, MSDE, stated, “The Rashtriya Karmayogi Seva-Bhav training is a vital step towards building a more responsive, empathetic, and citizen-first administration. It goes beyond technical capacity to nurture purpose-driven governance. By instilling the spirit of service among officials, we are not only improving public service delivery but also shaping a future-ready, values-based workforce aligned with our national vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.”

During the closing session, Ms. Trishaljit Sethi, Director General (Training), and Ms. Hena Usman, Joint Secretary, MSDE, addressed the participants and highlighted the strategic importance of this training in shaping an empathetic, responsive, and mission-oriented workforce. They also interacted with the participants, appreciating their feedback and commitment to implementing the Seva-Bhav ethos at grassroots levels.

Part of the larger Mission Karmayogi framework, this training aims to foster a deep sense of Seva-Bhav (spirit of service) among central government officials by shifting focus from routine tasks to purpose-driven public service.

With the successful completion of this phase, MSDE continues to lead the transformation of governance culture through sustained investments in human capital development, paving the way for an empowered and service-oriented bureaucracy.

The program will be implemented by Edunet Foundation, the implementing partner of Shell, across 5 states, empowering thousands of students with industry-ready skills in electric mobility and renewable energy.

Aligned with India’s green economy vision, the initiative will provide certification, placement support, and pathways to green jobs in the rapidly evolving energy sector.

NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with Shell India, has launched a Green Skills and Electric Vehicles (EV) training program aimed at equipping students and faculty with future-ready capabilities in green energy and e-mobility. This initiative will be implemented by Edunet Foundation, training partner of Shell, across select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

Under the DGT–Shell India collaboration, green skill training will be delivered through a structured multi-tier model across select NSTIs and ITIs. In the first phase, the program includes a 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at 4 NSTIs, a 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs equipped with Shell-supported labs, and a 50-hour foundational green skills module at additional ITIs without physical labs. The curriculum, jointly developed by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, covers EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, digital tools, and safety protocols. The initiative also includes Training of Trainers (ToT) for over 250 instructors, certification co-branded by Shell and DGT, and structured placement support to enhance industry readiness.

A key highlight of the initiative is the establishment of specialised EV skill labs within select ITIs and NSTIs. These labs are designed to offer hands-on training and expert-led sessions aligned with industry standards. Beyond lab-based learning, the program also provides placement support and co-branded certifications to successful participants, enhancing their employability in the green energy and EV sectors.

The Government of India has been actively advancing Green Energy and Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption in line with its net-zero ambitions. Flagship initiatives like the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme have played a pivotal role in accelerating EV uptake, enhancing infrastructure, and offering targeted incentives. Complementing these national efforts, states like Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have introduced their own EV policies to fast-track the transition to electric mobility, foster local ecosystems, and generate green jobs. These developments underscore the growing demand for a skilled workforce in the green energy and EV sectors.

As the apex national body for vocational training, DGT will play a crucial role in this initiative by mobilizing students and trainers and supporting the institutional ecosystem to ensure alignment with national education and skill development standards.

Speaking on the importance of this initiative, Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE and Minister of State for Education, said, “Our collaboration with Shell India reflects the government’s deeper commitment to aligning skilling with sustainability. Green energy, electric mobility, and the broader climate transition are not just environmental imperatives—they represent a generational opportunity for India to lead through innovation, talent, and enterprise. This initiative is part of our larger vision to create a workforce that is not only job-ready but climate-ready. We are equipping young Indians with the skills to shape—and not just participate in—the global green economy.”

Smt. Trishaljit Sethi, Director General, Directorate General of Training (DGT), MSDE, stated, “This partnership with Shell India is a focused step in bringing cutting-edge training infrastructure and industry-relevant curriculum into our ITIs and NSTIs. By integrating Electric Vehicle technologies into vocational training, we are ensuring that our students gain hands-on experience aligned with real-world demand. With joint certification, trainer upskilling, and placement support built into the program, this initiative will significantly strengthen the employability of our youth in the green mobility sector.”

Speaking on the partnership, Mansi Madan Tripathy, Chairperson, Shell Group of Companies in India & Senior Vice President, Shell Lubricants, Asia-Pacific, said, “At Shell, we aim to support local communities by enabling future employment opportunities. Equipping youth with green energy skills is an important step towards building a lower-carbon future. Through our collaboration with DGT and Edunet Foundation, we are providing students with practical and future-ready expertise in green energy and electric mobility. This initiative empowers young people to thrive in an evolving energy landscape and contribute towards India’s net-zero ambitions”.

This collaboration between DGT and Shell India is a robust move in preparing India’s youth for careers in the future green economy. By offering a comprehensive curriculum, specialized labs, and industry support, the initiative will equip students with hands-on skills and certifications, enhancing their employability and positioning them to lead in a sustainable, innovation-driven future.

Inaugurated by Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Union MoS for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, the facility at Aero Mall aims to prepare youth for India’s growing aviation sector.

PUNE: In a significant boost to aviation skill development in Western India, Global School of Aviation, the training arm of Global Flight Handling Services (A concessionaire of Airport Authority of India for Airport Ground Handling at Pune Airport), today inaugurated its Pune training facility at Aero Mall, adjacent to Pune International Airport. Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Government of India, inaugurated the state-of-the-art centre.

The new facility underscores Pune’s growing stature in India’s aviation landscape, serving both as a key operational base for airport services and now as a hub for aviation training and employment.

“Pune has always been a city of talent and innovation. With the expansion of air connectivity under the UDAN scheme and the rise in passenger traffic, this new training centre will provide timely skilling opportunities for the region’s youth,” said Shri Muralidhar Mohol, Union MoS for Civil Aviation and Cooperation. “I commend Global School of Aviation for investing in Pune and supporting the Government of India’s vision of making India a global aviation hub.”

The Global School of Aviation Pune facility will offer diploma and certification programs in Airport Ground Handling, Cabin Crew Training, Airport Operations & Management, and degree programs in collaboration with AMET University. Plans are already underway to bring international certification programs from governing bodies and develop a fully equipped mock aircraft cabin to deliver real-world, hands-on training experiences.

“We are proud to launch this facility in Pune, which will enable us to meet our in-house requirements and provide the right platform to future aviators who are looking for an aviation career,” said Sarita Kumari, Managing Director, Global Flight Handling Services. “With over 400 staff working at Pune Airport—95% of whom are from the city and neighbouring districts—this centre is a natural extension of our commitment to local employment, skilling, and aviation excellence.”

Located inside Aero Mall, India’s first airport mall complex situated just opposite Pune International Airport, the training facility benefits from real-time exposure to airport operations. Trainees will be able to interact with professionals from Global Flight Handling Services, which operates across 23 Indian airports, including Pune, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra alone. As an airport ground handling company, we remain committed to expanding our presence across Maharashtra and other parts of India, continuing our mission to elevate aviation infrastructure and training standards nationwide.

The facility is equipped with smart classrooms and multimedia-equipped training halls, cabin crew training labs (under development), career counselling and placement support, and access to on-ground practical exposure at Pune Airport.

Pune Airport, one of the fastest-growing airports in the country, handled over 10.54 million passengers in FY2024–25 and is undergoing significant expansion. With rising demand for both domestic and regional flights, the city is witnessing a parallel surge in the need for skilled aviation professionals across roles.

The Pune centre is the second facility under the Global School of Aviation brand, following the launch in Chennai in 2024. Centres in Kochi, Ahmedabad, and Visakhapatnam are scheduled to launch soon.

Global School of Aviation is a vertical of Global Flight Handling Services, a group company of Updater Services Ltd., India’s largest integrated facilities and business support services provider with a workforce of over 65,000.

“This is not just a training centre; it’s a gateway to careers in aviation for thousands of young Indians,” added Sarita. “We want to ensure that anyone aspiring for an aviation career—whether on the ground or in the air—has access to quality education, global certification, and practical experience.”

More than 30 employees from all DHL businesses in India attended the second training in Bangalore

BENGALURU: DHL Group has conducted its second GoHelp Disaster Response Team (DRT) training in Bangalore, India, strengthening resilience and preparedness against disasters in the South Asia region.

This is the second DRT training in India, with the first training conducted back in 2013. The 2-day training was held from April 5-6, 2025, at a DHL facility in Bangalore. More than 30 employees from Blue Dart, DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding, and DHL Supply Chain attended the training. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), a specialized force in India formed to respond to natural and man-made disasters, attended the training as an observer.

The 2-day training consisted of two sessions: a theoretical session on safety and stakeholder management, and a practical session. During the theoretical session, participants learned how to work with NGOs, the military, government organizations, and the media. The practical session included a disaster simulation, where participants were coached on relief cargo management during a crisis, warehousing, and forklift driving.

“DHL has always provided support when needed in India, such as our deployment in 2018 for the flood in Kerala, and again in 2022 for the flood in Assam. Therefore, it is timely for us to return to India and train a new batch of volunteers. Our employees have existing logistics expertise, but the situation during deployment can be different from what they do day-to-day. The DRT training is crucial in providing them with the necessary knowledge to prepare for such situations.

Since our last training in 2013, the focus has shifted from reactive disaster response to proactive preparedness. We now train them beyond airport logistics to include warehousing so that they manage relief cargo effectively and provide critical aid across multiple touchpoints during emergencies,” said Carl Schelfhaut, Head of the GoHelp program, Asia Pacific, DHL Group.

According to UNICEF, India is one of the most disaster-prone countries with 27 of its 29 states and seven union territories exposed to recurrent natural hazards such as cyclones, earthquakes, landslides, floods, and droughts. With climate change, the Indian subcontinent is likely to experience an increasing number of extreme weather events in the future.

The Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, the deadliest tsunami in recorded history, devastated communities along the surrounding coasts of the Indian Ocean in December 2004, killing an estimated 228,000 people in 14 countries, including Sri Lanka.

“At DHL, our purpose is Connecting People and Improving Lives, and the GoHelp program is very close to our heart. Our employees go through these trainings to ensure that they can make active change in the communities they are in. More than 30 employees who went through the DRT training will enhance our preparedness should a disaster strike, and we need to lend a helping hand.” – R.S. Subramanian, Senior Vice President, South Asia, DHL Express.

“Our employee’s commitment to the GoHelp program is truly inspiring, and they play a vital role in disaster preparedness and response efforts. These training initiatives ensure that DHL is always ready to act whenever the communities need us most. Our GoHelp program and the humanitarian efforts under this initiative have a significant impact, and their importance will only continue to grow.” – Balfour Manuel, Managing Director, Blue Dart.

“Our employee’s participation in such training is crucial, as we prepare ourselves to respond effectively in emergencies and disasters. The GoHelp program is vital in our commitment to providing exceptional support during crises. Their skills in managing relief cargo across multiple touchpoints will be much needed as natural disasters occur more often these days.” – Edwin Pinto, Managing Director, India, DHL Global Forwarding.

“Natural disasters & shocks are getting more frequent and severe but logistics bottlenecks for relief aid don’t have to be. It’s been over 20 years now since our Disaster Response Team (DRT) was set up and has been collaboratively working with the United Nations to support affected countries globally. Our employees undergo this training so that they can reduce the negative impact of a natural disaster and help communities recover faster.” – Vikas Anand, Managing Director, India, DHL Supply Chain.

Since 2005, DHL Group has volunteered its logistics expertise and global network in partnership with the United Nations to help provide global relief efforts in disaster areas via their GoHelp program. In times of disaster, the DRTs are deployed to landside or airside facilities in need of assistance when called upon by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, to better manage incoming relief goods.
