<p><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> Paytm (One97 Communications Limited), India’s leading payments and financial services distribution company and the pioneer of mobile payments, QR codes, and Soundbox, has introduced personalized UPI IDs, enhancing privacy and offering a more flexible way to make mobile payments. This advancement reflects the company’s commitment to simplifying and securing everyday digital payments.</p>



<p>The new offering allows selection of personalized UPI IDs such as name@ptyes or name@ptaxis, enabling individuals to send and receive money without revealing their mobile numbers. It is currently live on handles issued by Yes Bank and Axis Bank and will be extended to other banking partners shortly.</p>



<p>Whether you&#8217;re paying a shopkeeper, settling up with a delivery executive, or transferring money to a new vendor, Paytm remains India’s most trusted and secure way to pay. With personalized UPI IDs, Paytm now offers even greater privacy. When a user sends or receives money using their personalized UPI ID, their mobile number stays hidden from the transaction details. This protects personal information while still allowing individuals to create a unique and easily recognizable payment identity. It&#8217;s a seamless experience, built for trust, security, and everyday convenience.</p>



<p><strong>Paytm Spokesperson</strong> said, “<em>We have introduced personalized UPI IDs to offer more choice and privacy in payments. We heard the feedback from our customers who wanted to keep their mobile numbers private, and built this solution to address that need. We remain committed to developing thoughtful innovations that make payments safer and more convenient for all</em>.”</p>



<p>To create a personalized UPI ID on the Paytm app:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Open the Paytm app</li>



<li> Tap on the profile icon and go to ‘UPI Settings’</li>



<li>Select ‘Manage UPI ID’ and choose a personalised ID</li>



<li>Confirm and activate the new UPI ID as the primary UPI ID to be used for payments</li>
</ul>



<p>Paytm has introduced seven other key innovations to make mobile payments safer, smarter, and more trusted. These include: (1) the ability to hide or unhide payments for enhanced privacy, (2) Automatic categorization of spends &amp; monthly spend summary to help track and manage expenses, (3) Receive Money widget for quick access to incoming payments on the mobile homescreen (4) Scan and Pay widget on the mobile home screen for faster payments, (5) auto top-up for Paytm UPI Lite to ensure seamless low-value payments of upto Rs. 5000, (6) the option to download UPI statements in PDF and Excel formats for better financial tracking, and (7) a consolidated view of total balances across all UPI-linked bank accounts &#8211; without having to mentally add up individual balances. Internationally, Paytm now enables UPI payments in the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, offering greater convenience to Indian travellers across the globe.</p>

<p><strong>INDIA</strong>: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the organization driving innovation and powering India’s digital payment revolution has reiterated its commitment to enhancing consumer safety in digital payments by advocating the ‘Stop, Think, Act’ principle. As digital transactions continue to grow, NPCI urges users to remain vigilant and adopt best practices to safeguard themselves against fraud.</p>



<p><strong>Growing Adoption of UPI and the Need for Digital Safety</strong></p>



<p>Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has become a key driver of digital transactions in India, accounting for 83% of total payment volume in CY-2024. In January 2025, UPI processed 16.99 billion transactions, reflecting a 39% year-on-year growth in volume and a 28% year-on-year growth increase in transaction value. Over the past five years, UPI adoption has soared at a CAGR of 74%, making it the largest retail payment system in transaction volume. Since its inception, UPI has onboarded over 460 million unique users, facilitating digital transactions across various segments.</p>



<p><strong>NPCI’s Multi-Layered Security Framework</strong></p>



<p>UPI stands out not only for its convenience but also for its robust security framework, which ensures the integrity of every transaction. NPCI employs advanced protocols and stringent safeguards such as device binding. The feature links a user’s account to a specific mobile device, ensuring that a third party cannot access it without the registered mobile device. Furthermore, UPI incorporates a two-factor authentication that requires users to verify their identity using their mobile number and the user’s UPI PIN before authorizing any transaction.</p>



<p><strong>Consumer Advisory: How to Stay Safe?</strong></p>



<p>While UPI is equipped with robust security features, fraudsters continue to exploit social engineering tactics. Consumers must remain cautious of scams.</p>



<p>NPCI advises all UPI users to follow the ‘Stop, Think, Act’ principle:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>STOP before responding to unexpected calls, messages, or emails requesting personal or banking details</li>



<li>THINK and verify requests by checking official sources such as company websites or customer service helplines</li>



<li>ACT wisely by avoiding suspicious requests and immediately reporting fraud attempts to the relevant authorities</li>
</ul>



<p><strong>How to Report a Fraud?</strong></p>



<p>Users who suspect fraud should report incidents immediately. Suspicious cases can be reported to the national cybercrime helpline (1930) or through&nbsp;the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (<a href="https://cybercrime.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">https://cybercrime.gov.in</a>). The user should&nbsp;also report the case to their bank. Additionally, users should save messages, take screenshots, and document interactions to help authorities take action.</p>



<p>By staying informed and alert, users can enjoy the convenience of digital payments while keeping their money safe. UPI is committed to ensuring a secure and seamless digital payment experience for everyone across India.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-center" style="font-size:24px"><em>Indian travelers can now make UPI payments at Dubai Duty-Free</em></p>



<p><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has announced a strategic partnership with Magnati, a leading payment solutions provider in the Middle East, to advance QR-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) merchant payments via Magnati’s point-of-sale (POS) terminals in the UAE. The collaboration aims to expand the QR-based merchant payment network in the UAE by enabling more merchants to provide UPI as a payment method to Indian travelers.</p>



<p>UPI is recognized as one of the world’s most successful real-time payment systems, processing over 16 billion transactions in December 2024 alone. With this partnership, NIPL can provide seamless payment options to more than 12 million Indians traveling to Dubai and the UAE annually. It plugs an Indian solution into the global digital payments network and allows UAE merchants to cater to a growing Indian consumer base.</p>



<p><strong>The partnership will initially offer UPI acceptance across Dubai Duty-Free</strong>, enhancing the shopping and payment experience for Indian tourists. It will further pave the way for future expansion across key merchant categories, including retail, hospitality, transport, and supermarkets.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-center" style="font-size:24px"><em>RBI Deputy Governor launches include UPI Interoperable Cash Deposit at ATMs</em></p>



<p><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> The <strong>Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Shri T. Rabi Sankar</strong> today announced the launch of product offerings aimed at transforming the ATM infrastructure in the country. Unveiled in association with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2024, the initiatives include UPI Interoperable Cash Deposit (UPI-ICD) and banks showcasing Digital Banking Units (DBUs).</p>



<p>The introduction of UPI ICD allows customers to deposit cash at ATMs operated by banks and white-label ATM operators (WLAOs) using UPI to their bank account or any other bank account without the need for a physical card. These ATMs are cash recycler machines that are used for both cash deposits and withdrawals. Leveraging their mobile numbers linked to UPI, virtual payment addresses (VPA), and account IFSCs, customers can now make cash deposits, making the process more seamless, inclusive, and accessible. Consumers will be able to access these features as the banks gradually roll them out.</p>



<p>ATMs with open architecture can host bank apps positioning them as DBUs offering cash deposits, withdrawals, and other banking services such as opening bank accounts, applying for credit cards, initiating fixed deposits, applying for safe deposit lockers, etc.</p>



<p>Additionally, today at the GFF 2024, <strong>Shri Vivek Deep, Executive Director, RBI</strong> announced the rebranding of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to Bharat Connect. This is an important step to refresh and strengthen the BBPS brand. Bharat Connect embodies NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited’s (NBBL’s) values and vision for stakeholders and customers, going beyond a bill payment system to create an ecosystem that connects individuals and businesses, through an integrated platform.</p>

<p><strong>BENGALURU:</strong> super. money, a credit-first UPI service platform, today officially launched its app, after a successful beta phase. During the beta phase, the app witnessed close to one million downloads, driving over 10 Million transactions, showcasing significant adoption of the app. super.money has also finished testing out a first of its kind, credit on UPI solution, and has started a waitlist program for the same. super.money’s first solution is a  RuPay credit card that operates like an interest-bearing wallet on UPI rails and is touted to be a global first.</p>



<p>super.money launched its UPI offerings with a strong focus on enhancing rewards &amp; credit experiences for everyday transactions. The app offers up to 5 percent cashback on every merchant transaction and special offers from partner merchants including Flipkart and Myntra.</p>



<p>super.money is transforming payments into a social and engaging experience with its innovative rewards programs like superNameDrop, Raffle, and Meme-Money. superNameDrop is a construct where users can earn instant cashback by sending money to someone with the featured name of the week. Raffle, which is slated to launch soon, offers users the chance to win exciting prizes, while Meme-Money adds a social element to financial transactions, making them both engaging and rewarding.</p>



<p>Backed by the aim to tap into India’s growing consumer credit opportunity, super.money has integrated with NPCI&#8217;s RuPay infrastructure for its co-branded credit card. Since its inception, UPI QR codes have quickly surpassed POS systems while unlocking new payment and credit use cases that may not have existed before. As per recent reports, the cost of credit acceptance for merchants has dropped to zero on smaller-value transactions &#8211; a global first &#8211; which is expected to significantly boost UPI adoption in India.  Credit on UPI will materially change the borrower profile, and in turn, accelerate retail credit adoption in the country. This is also set to bring users from Tier 2 and Tier 3 India into the realm of formal credit.</p>

<p><strong>MUMBAI: </strong>The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced the rollout of the ‘UPI One World’ wallet for inbound travelers, across all nations of the world, visiting India. This initiative is designed to provide international visitors with a seamless, real-time digital payment experience, making it easier to explore India’s cultural wonders and vibrant landscapes. Additionally, this innovative service will be available to the esteemed delegates attending the World Heritage Committee meeting in New Delhi from July 21-31, 2024.</p>



<p>Through this development, delegates as well as other foreign visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in India’s rich culture, cuisine, and many diverse experiences with the ease of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments.</p>



<p>UPI One World wallet, first introduced during the G20 summit hosted by India last year, will now be available to people visiting from many more countries. Foreign visitors can use the wallet to experience the convenience and security of the &#8220;made in India&#8221; technology. This eliminates the need to carry cash and the complexities of foreign exchange transactions.</p>



<p>The UPI One World wallet can be availed through authorized PPI issuers at airports, hotels, designated money exchange locations, and other touchpoints, following a full KYC process based on a passport and valid visa. Arrangements will also be made to make these wallets available at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the venue of the World Heritage Committee meeting, for the benefit of delegates. Once issued, the wallet can be loaded, either in cash or through other payment modes.</p>



<p>International travelers can use the UPI One World app to make payments at merchant locations by simply scanning the QR codes. Any unused balance can be transferred back to the original payment source, by foreign exchange regulations. This enablement has been made possible by the joint efforts of NPCI, IDFC First Bank, and Transcorp International Limited, under the guidance of the Reserve Bank of India.</p>



<p>Speaking on this significant development,<strong> </strong>an <strong>NPCI spokesperson</strong> said, “<em>We are thrilled to offer UPI experience to the international guests visiting India through UPI One World. This move aims to enhance the experience for visitors by equipping them with UPI, the most preferred payment choice among Indians. International travelers can organize their financial needs using UPI One World. It allows for convenient loading and enables the transfer of any unused balance back to the original payment source. By enabling foreign travelers to experience the real-time payments system developed by India, we are taking a significant stride towards creating a more interconnected global digital payments ecosystem.”</em></p>



<p>This initiative by NPCI showcases India’s leadership in the global digital payments landscape and provides an opportunity for the international community to engage with and benefit from India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) success story. Notably, in June 2024, UPI processed close to 14 billion transactions valued at INR 20.07 trillion (~USD 240 billion).</p>

<p><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> Axis Bank, one of the largest private sector banks in India, today announced the launch of NFC Soundbox in collaboration with Mastercard. An industry-first proposition for the merchant community, the new soundbox will act as an all-in-one solution allowing the users to accept Bharat QR, UPI, Tap &amp; Pay and Tap + Pin payments.</p>



<p>With this launch, Axis Bank will be the first bank in India to introduce a Soundbox that can accept Tap + Pin payments, enabling merchants to accept transactions greater than ₹5000 via card instruments. The device will be powered with a dual confirmation feature, providing audio cues through its speaker and visual feedback on the screen in more than seven languages, ensuring a smooth and reassuring transaction experience for both merchants and consumers.</p>



<p>The new Soundbox will be powered with 4G + Wifi capability which provides superior connectivity and seamless processing of transactions. It will be capable of supporting deep integration with third-party applications as well. With Dynamic QR, the amount is automatically populated when the consumer scans the code.</p>



<p>Axis Bank and Mastercard’s collaboration on the NFC Soundbox will help drive card payment acceptance among small merchants. The Soundbox’s innovative and cost-effective proposition along with a seamless transaction experience will help drive quick and secure contactless card payments, leading to cardholder delight.</p>



<p>The new device will also be available on all leading payment networks, such as Visa, RuPay, and American Express.</p>

<p>Axis Bank is the largest player in the merchant-acquiring business pan India, with POS terminal market share of&nbsp;19.8%&nbsp;as of March&#8217;24. With an installed base of&nbsp;17.60L terminals spread across the country, it serves all categories of&nbsp;merchants from the metro cities, urban and rural areas. The Bank has gained an incremental market share of&nbsp;28%&nbsp;in the last 12 months period (April&#8217;23-March&#8217;24).</p>

<p><strong>MUMBAI:</strong> ICICI Bank today announced that it has enabled NRI customers to use their international mobile number to make UPI payments instantly in India, thereby significantly enhancing their convenience of making everyday payments. With this facility, the NRI customers of the Bank can make payments for their utility bills, and merchant and e-commerce transactions with their international mobile number registered with their NRE / NRO bank account held with ICICI Bank in India. The Bank has made this service available through its mobile banking app, iMobile Pay. Earlier, NRIs had to register an Indian mobile number with their banks to make UPI payments.</p>



<p>To bring forth this facility, ICICI Bank has leveraged the international infrastructure laid down by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for convenient usage of UPI across countries. The Bank offers this facility across 10 countries namely the USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.</p>



<p>NRI customers of the Bank can make UPI payments by scanning any Indian QR code and sending money to a UPI ID or any Indian mobile number or Indian bank account.</p>

<p><strong>NEW DELHI:</strong> Google India Digital Services (P) Limited and NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand the transformative impact of UPI to countries beyond India.</p>



<p>The MoU has three key objectives. First, it seeks to broaden the use of UPI payments for travelers outside of India, enabling them to conveniently make transactions abroad. Second, the MoU intends to assist in establishing UPI-like digital payment systems in other countries, providing a model for seamless financial transactions. Lastly, it focuses on easing the process of remittances between countries by utilizing the UPI infrastructure, thereby simplifying cross-border financial exchanges.</p>



<p>The outlined objectives will help accelerate UPI&#8217;s global acceptance, providing foreign merchants access to Indian customers who will no longer have to rely only on foreign currency and/or, credit or forex cards for making digital payments and will have the option of using UPI-powered Apps from India including Google Pay. This is in alignment with NPCI’s endeavor of bolstering India’s position in the global digital payment landscape. Moreover, the MoU will also significantly contribute to simplifying remittances by reducing dependence on conventional money transfer channels.</p>
