Nearly 45 TAGC Youth volunteers, accompanied by their parents, swarmed into Feed My Starving Children packing facility in Schaumburg on July 22, 2017 to pack and seal bags of food for starving children around the world.
The fantastic, fun-filled, inspirational two hours resulted in TAGC youth volunteers setting a record for most boxes packed by a group of this size in one setting- 202 boxes! This amount will feed 119 children in Ghana, a small country on the western coast of Africa, for an entire year.
Telugu Association of Greater Chicago’s (TAGC) volunteering community and social services have been flourishing since 1971 in the Chicago land area. In 2017, TAGC Board and volunteers decided to volunteer at FMSC during the summer in their Schaumburg & Naperville facilities.
TAGC encourages each and every volunteer to partake in charities of their choice; however, we also wanted to use the strength of our group to assist in a noble cause. FMSC is a wonderful organization which provides the opportunity for our volunteers to work together as a team and experience the positive impact that just a few hours of our time can have in the worldwide fight against hunger. Feed My Starving Children is certainly a worthy cause and we are thrilled to have had the opportunity to assist in their efforts.
Feed My Starving Children produces nutritious meals designed to restore malnourished children to full health. Volunteers hand-pack meals that are shipped to missions and humanitarian agencies located in 70 countries around the world. Each meal costs 22 cents to produce and 92% of all donations directly support the food program. FMSC is an organization that TAGC is glad to have been a partner with.
“We knew from the start that we would set a new record, because of who we are,” & “We’re dedicated, good people who’s desire it is to help people every day.” said TAGC President Ramachandra Ade who, then, proceeded to thank TAGC youth committee chair, Sai Gongati, Treasurer Venkat Gunuganti, all the youth volunteers, parents and board of directors for dedicating their time, he also mentioned that planning same kind of activities in coming 5 weeks.
