Pune and Lonavala, 3rd November, 2016: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has been working relentlessly towards improving the standard of living of its communities and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities through various interventions. In continuation with this commitment, Tata Power facilitated sustainable livelihood for farmers in Maval and Bhivpuri regions around Pune through its Sustainable Agriculture Program. The activity benefits 3000 farmers in the region
The objective of this program was to provide improved agriculture solutions thereby enabling higher yield for the farmers this Kharif season. More than 3,000 farmers benefitted from this activity which included distribution of improved quality high yielding Paddy seeds to farmers. In addition to the distribution of seeds, Tata Power, organized educational sessions for farmers, training and technical inputs on best practices of Paddy cultivation. The initiative resulted in increase in the paddy cultivation area to 2,036 acres of land this year. Tata Power also supported 342 farmers for Ground Nut Farming, 345 farmers for Pulses Tur (Cereals) and 64 farmers for Potato farming.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Ashok Sethi, COO and ED, Tata Power, said, “At, Tata Power we are always mindful of creating various programs to improve the lives communities surrounding our premises. Through this activity, we aim to engage with the farmers and encourage them to adopt the latest farming methods. Further, the interaction with agriculture experts will keep them abreast on the developments in agriculture which can be implemented to their benefit.”
Tata Power’s Sustainable Agriculture Program received an overwhelming response from the villages and the crop yield has been on the higher side.
