From the makers of ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’, PVR Pictures brings another riveting story : The Warrior Queen of Jhansi. An iconic film based on the true story of Rani Lakshmibai, the story for the world to still discover in its entirety. The film digs deeper into the story of one of the most poignant queens of the country, one that broke all barriers to fight for the freedom of her country and lit the torch that gave India its freedom 90 years later.
Commenting on the film, Director Swati Bhise said, “We grew up with her story. I think every young child in India grows up listening to this real-life tale through the oral tradition as well as school textbooks. Through this film I wanted to narrate the true story of a determined young woman who could have been of any colour or creed. I’ve tried to tell her story as a woman ahead of her time—who was also a mother, wife, queen, and friend—but who finally went down in the annals of history as a freedom fighter who believed in the unyielding feminine force. I am excited to present the film to the Indian audience and happy that it will be having a theatrical release in my mother tongue Marathi.”
Devika Bhise – who plays the lead role of Rani of Jhansi added saying, “This is the first ever action film in Hollywood to have a female Indian lead and it’s exciting to be a part of such a path-breaking film. The film shows the varied layers of the brave queen which women of today can resonate and connect with. I am eagerly waiting for the Indian audiences to watch the film.”
Commenting on this association, Kamal Gianchandani, CEO PVR Pictures said “We are excited to bring this enthralling story inspired by the iconic Rani Lakshmibai to millions of discerning Indian audiences. It is indeed an honor that the very stellar team behind the film chose to partner with PVR Pictures and we are hopeful to continue entertaining entertainment enthusiasts with more such content’’
Taking place between 1853 and 1858, The Warrior Queen of Jhansi illustrates the story of how the Rani and her troops defended Jhansi against the ruthless greed of the British East India Company as it attempts the annexation of the province.
