Union HRD Minister to Launch SCCN to monitor Ecological foot prints at MIT World Peace University Campus, Pune

Pune 2nd June 2017 : MIT World Peace University Campus at Kothrud, Pune will be on Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN) project of TERRE Policy Centre for management of resource efficicency and contributing to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs).  The launching ceremony will take place  on Monday, 5th June 2017 – World Environment Day- at the august hands of Hon’ble Prakash Javadekar, Union HRD Minister at Saint Dnyaneshwara Hall at 10.30 a.m.

 

This  unique and bold  initiative, called ‘ From Carbon Footprint to Campus HandPrints’, will not only create awareness about Energy Conservation, Water Management ,  Waste Management , Air pollution and Sustainable Transport, but would set a new educational pattern of ‘ learning by doing’. The actions would not be just by the University administration but also by the active participation of the students and faculty. It is expacted that such transformative education will  permeate across  the society. It will also help in building virtual  collaborative network of campuses to trigger a spirit of innovation amongst students.

 

The word “Smart” has assumed great significance in today’s technological world. The Govt. of India under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji is working on smart cities and smart digital applications. This SCCN Project will serve as pilot efforts for smart cities and  part of the Digital India Campaign of the Government. The Students will be benefitted as SCCN  will add to their skills and make them industry ready for the sustainable future and life style.

 

The SCCN will encourage and enhance co-operation of faculty, students, private sector for gainful employment and encourage sustainable entrepreneurship and participation.

 

Rajendra Shende, Chairman TERRE Policy Centre and Former Chairman UNEP said that  through our catalytic project of Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN), MIT-WPU would deploy Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) through a cloud-based dashboard for real time monitoring of campus utility production and consumption patterns. The cloud platform will enable connectivity to other campuses in India and worldwide to compare and generate positive competition to better the resource efficiency.. The network would provide information on real time monitoring data about its energy consumption with capability of advanced analytics.

 

Prof. Dr. Vishwanath Karad, Founder-Executive President, MIT Group of Institutions and President World Peace University said that MIT-WPU Kothrud Campus and TERRE Policy Centre are joining hands to celebrate the amalgamation of Science, Spirituality, and Sustainability with an aim to preserve the planet’s natural resources for a better future. It is a unique collaboration of the leading academic institution, NGO and private sector for India’s sustainable future.

 

Dr Milind Pande, Project Director MITSOT  said that being a Digital India Initiative this smart initiative will generate enormous interest amongst students as they readily embrace new technologies.
