Mumbai: – VIBGYOR High Model United Nations (VIBGYORMUN), an initiative to empower students, commenced its 9th edition in the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Mumbai starting today. VIBGYORMUN gives students a forum in which they hone skills in diplomacy, negotiation, critical thinking, compromise, public speaking, writing, and research and learn more about the United Nations.
Since its inception in 2011, VIBGYORMUN has grown strength to strength. What sets the VIBGYORMUN apart from other MUN simulations is that it has been consistently providing top-notch quality MUN experience to its delegates. With a different social theme each year, VIBGYORMUN provides an admirable learning experience to student delegates to be acquainted with the most glaring global issues and try to resolve the same. It will also have a panel discussion with eminent personalities.
This year, the event is witnessing an enthusiastic participation of around 500 students of VIBGYOR and other Schools across the country. During the three-day event, students will be discussing various issues like improving global access to education, Nuclear Policy in the 21st century, Curbing state sponsorship of terrorism, Exploring ways to tackle agrarian distress in rural India, etc.
Chief Guest Aaditya Thackeray, Chairman, President of Yuva Sena, Leader of Shiv Sena and Erik Solheim, The Sixth UN Environment Executive Director and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations inaugurated the conference. Adv. Afroz Shah, UN Champion of the Earth, Counsel, Bombay High Court who spearheaded the largest beach clean-up drive in the world is the guest of honour at the three-day event.
Overwhelmed with the response for VIBGYORMUN, Shim Mathew, Director – Academic Operations | Initiatives & International Partnerships said, “With our dynamic and highly experienced faculty, we hope to give all our delegates the best possible VIBGYORMUN experience. Our endeavour is to educate participants about important current affairs and global issues surrounding them and encourage them to practice the core values set down by the United Nations. Moreover, VIBGYORMUN has served as a platform for them to meet, debate, deliberate, consult and discuss issues pertaining to international relations in a diplomatic way.”
Afroz Shah, UN Champion of the Earth, Counsel, Bombay High Court said, “VIBGYOR and I have been friends for eons. This friendship blossomed into love – love for Mother Nature, love for other species, love for our planet and our country. Young leaders from VIBGYOR stood shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand with focused eyes – with leaders of the country and the citizens to do ground action – to protect and preserve Mother Nature. VIBGYORMUN is a manifestation of what these young leaders have achieved – and are telling you and me to do what must be done with Mother Nature. A new beginning, a new era, a new zeal is what VIBGYOR stands for”
Erik Solheim, The Sixth UN Environment Executive Director and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations said, “Our world is facing grave issues relating to environment. These issues aren’t the defining problems of our time – rather, it’s what we do to solve them that will determine our collective future. As such, I am happy to be part of a unique platform like VIBGYORMUN which has been engaging and encouraging for youth to join and, in fact, lead the movement for change. As global citizens, we should all appreciate and actively engage in such initiatives”
Aaditya Thackeray, Chairman, President of Yuva Sena, Leader of Shiv Sena said, “VIBGYORMUN is a commendable initiative by VIBGYOR Group of Schools. It’s good to see students having social and political awareness. In my point of view, such initiatives are important to prepare our youth for the world of tomorrow. My best wishes for the initiative”
