OnCare which is an Initiative of & Managed by N K Dhabhar Cancer Foundation (NKDCF), in association with Sri Guru Singh Sabha Mumbai conducted a program for cancer patients, “Why Wellness In Cancer?……..at OnCare” at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Dadar (East), Mumbai.
This program was organised to create Awareness for OnCare so that maximum number of patients can take advantage of OnCare and its activities. A glimpse of all the activities conducted at OnCare was demonstrated to the audience to enable them to experience the importance of this program in their journey of battling cancer.
NKDCF’s endeavor is to promote and integrate cancer treatment for every patient whether curable, palliative or terminal, as we believe every person has a right to live with care and dignity, at any stage of cancer. Keeping this mission in mind, OnCare which is a Day Care Cancer Wellness and Palliative Care Centre has been started at Masina Hospital, Byculla, Mumbai.
At OnCare we aim to give a good Quality of Life to every cancer patient and their families.
The main Objectives of OnCare are
• To improve the lives of people living with cancer by providing a positive, Happy, healing centre and support them on their cancer journey.
• To provide a comfortable and a restful place where cancer patients can spend the day – in the presence of compassionate medically trained professionals, including counsellors, and also a place where they can simultaneously bond with others in the same condition and be HAPPY
• To provide respite for the care giver –
At OnCare we have a well-planned day of different activities such as Yoga, Art and Music Therapy, Mindfulness, nutritional workshops, Art & Craft, grooming etc.
Their palliative medical care needs especially pain management are met by expert palliative care doctors.
There are trained counsellors for group and individual counselling sessions.
We also have well trained physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists who provide assistance with speech therapy, lymphedema management etc, as per the specific needs of the patients.
A nutritious well planned meal is provided and in addition to this there is a lot of fun activities, like art and craft, interactions with school children , Karaoke and music so that there is no room for boredom.
Patients who come to OnCare on a regular basis have derived a great benefit from all the various programs. They feel happy and comforted and are in a positive frame of mind, which helps them to battle the disease better.
