With between 1,500 and 2,000 movies produced every year, India’s film industry is the most prolific in the world. While the stars of such films may seem far removed from everyday life, it actually turns out that many share the same passions as their audiences do. But which Bollywood stars are known for their passion for gaming?
Kabir Bedi Enjoys a Flutter
One of India’s longest-serving actors – known for playing Emperor Shah Jahan and henchman to the villain in Bond flick Octopussy – Kabir Bedi is a known fan of card games. Upon attending the International Indian Film Academy event in Macau in 2009, Bedi was reported as being excited to have the chance to gamble in a “lovely atmosphere.” Bedi used to spend nights playing card games in his youth and comes to the game with a ‘win some, lose some’ attitude.
It’s refreshing to discover that such a revered actor has such a commonplace hobby, especially one that regular Indian citizens can engage with. Indeed, there are plenty of platforms in India that offer the chance to play the games that celebrities play. For example, players can engage with the Andar Bahar Game online, an Indian classic that relies on luck and gives you a 50/50 chance of being successful. The game has even been advanced with new technologies and can be played live in live dealer games. Regardless, due to how simple the rules are many players find this game accessible and it continues to be a popular game.
SRK Loves Video Games
Shah Rukh Khan may be a hopeless romantic onscreen, but he’s an avid gamer offscreen. King Khan is known for his passion for video gaming. The passion runs deep – he even has a floor of his house dedicated to video games. While filming for the movie Don: The Chase Begins, Khan and co-star Farhan Akhtar reportedly used to play soccer-themed video games together.
The Badshah of Bollywood has even discussed his love of games, such as the Batman spin-off Arkham Origins on social media. In the post, he suggested that he would be undertaking many night-long sessions to complete the game. Not only does this cement him as an ardent gamer, but it helps audiences resonate with him on a more personal level. He may be the King of Bollywood, but he loves to play games as much as we do.
Tiger Shroff’s Call of Duty
Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, known for action flicks such as the Baaghi series and War and being on India’s celebrity rich list, may also be known for his gaming passion. March 2020 saw popular eSports streamer MortaL enlist the actor to play Call of Duty: Mobile together. The video of the stream has reached more than 1.5 billion views.
Not only was the streaming a chance for fans to play a 5v5 Deathmatch with the streamer and star, but it also helped show the world how into gaming Shroff is. Shroff is well-known for playing Call of Duty in his spare time, on set, and online. Nothing can help eSports gain a greater foothold among Indian audiences than an endorsement by Tiger Shroff.
Knowing that Bollywood celebrities indulge in the same games as we do helps to flesh out their personalities. When we see actors onscreen, we can often get lost in the story or the character they are portraying. Finding out their hobbies, especially if they match ours, can help us to view them in a different light.
