Workshop on Academic Writing

The workshop aims to make the participants familiar with the techniques and strategies used in academic writing to make it more effective and give the writing better clarity.
Content and Learning Methods
This workshop is hands-on and task-based, with frequent interactive practice activities designed to develop essential academic writing skills. The focus of this workshop will be on the linguistic and organisational features of academic texts. It covers the following areas:
* Style/ register and levels of formality in academic texts
* Vocabulary and Grammar
* Organising academic texts (E.g. Paragraphing)
* Maintaining a flow and increasing coherence.
Who can attend
This workshop will be useful for graduate/ post-graduate/ research students and even for college teachers. In fact, a majority of the aspects of Academic Writing are also hugely helpful for Business writing, thus making it useful for people working in the corporate sector. The workshop will help those who regularly have to write academic essays, exam answers, academic reports, dissertations, research papers as well as reports and emails of a formal nature.
Amol Bapat works for English Partnerships, Corporate Training and Examinations in British Council, India. He has been teaching English since 2002 and has designed and conducted courses in General English, Business English, Writing Skills and Exam Preparation for colleges, government bodies, corporate houses and NGOs. He has also trained Government school teachers in English language teaching methodology as part of English Partnerships in several Indian states.
