Pune: Every year since 2007, world Autism Awareness Day is celebrated to shine a bright light on autism as a growing global health crisis.
Sahyadri Hospital at Deccan contributed in this worldwide awareness movement of autism by lighting the hospital in blue color as per the color code decided worldwide. The official of Sahyadri Hospitals also wore blue clothes to contribute in their way.
The Child Guidance Centre, Department of Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health under Sahyadri Hospitals is a multidisciplinary team well equipped to assess and provide therapy for Autism. Services like Psychometric tests, Applied Behavior Analysis, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Sensory Integration Therapy are readily available and accessible.
Autism is a brain disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and repetitive behavior. World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) activities increase and develop world knowledge of the autism crisis and impart information regarding the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. Additionally, WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism and is a day when individuals with autism are warmly welcomed and embraced in community events around the globe. An estimated 1 in 68 children in the U.S. is on the autism spectrum.
