On the occasion of 70th Year of anniversary of World Health Day on 7 April, WHO has declared theme as Universal health coverage: everyone, everywhere. Symbiosis International (Deemed University) conducted various awareness programs and health checkup camps through Symbiosis Community Outreach Programme and Extension (SCOPE) activities for this theme in collaboration with Prashanti Cancer Care Mission and Primary Health Unit (PHU), Pirangut, Under this activity. Various training sessions and health checkups camps were arranged for 35 Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) to empower them to identifying various diseases in the villages and procedures to referring patients to doctors. In addition, they were trained to screen blood pressure and blood sugar levels in the villagers and to perform clinical breast examination in suspected patients.
Under guidance of Col. (Dr.) Jayalakshmi N. Pillai (Retd.), Head-SCOPE, the staff planned World Health Day activity and implemented the event. Dr. Karanjkar Taluka Health Officer, Dr Ramdas Tate from Primary Health Centre – Mutha provided support.
Dr. Sachin Raje, Programme Officer, Dr. Roshani Newagi, Medical Officer – SCOPE trained ASHA workers for the identification of various diseases like heart attack, diabetes etc. Mr. Amolkumar Degaonkar, Coordinator – SCOPE supported. ASHA workers were also trained for Basic Life Support in emergency cases with the demonstration of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. As per the initiatives by Govt. healthcare system, they were also trained for checking of blood pressure and blood sugar level. Ms. Deepali Chavan from Prashanti Cancer Care Mission, Pune gave training about clinical breast examination and sensitized them about the breast cancer. After the theoretical lectures, ASHA workers were trained for blood pressure, blood sugar level and clinical breast examination.
The World Health Day activities were appreciated by one and all.
