Suryadatta College of Hospitality Management and Travel Tourism (SCHMTT), a NAAC accredited premier institute in Pune inaugurated the 3 day International Webinar- “Xenia- Bestowing Hospitality” on 3rd Nov 2020, as an industry connect and knowledge management initiative.
Conceptualized with the collective inputs of industry experts, senior academicians, and alumni on a pan India basis and from overseas, the international seminar “Xenia” provided students with valuable knowledge and industry insights from distinguished stalwarts of the Industry. Students got introduced to new concepts and innovative ideas pertaining to all departments of Hospitality viz. Food styling, Food Blogging, Airport Catering, Wine Appreciation, Mixology and Shrubs, Cloud kitchens, Food Historian, Facility Management, and much more. A total of 250 Students and faculty from SCHMTT as well as other institutes and colleges across Maharashtra benefitted from the seminar.
The international webinar was kickstarted by Mr. Pandurang Taware, a renowned entrepreneur in Agro Tourism who provided glimpses in the field of Agro Tourism and explained the linkages between hotel management and Agro tourism. He encouraged students to take up an entrepreneurial approach w.r.t Agro tourism and thereby boost the economic situation of farmers in Maharashtra. Chef Nitin Tandon, CEO of Clear Water Hospitality Services presented exciting stuff on Food Styling and also deliberated on the career options and career pathways of a food stylist. He underlined the importance of having strong fundamentals in the kitchen in order to become a Food Stylist.
Day 2 and Day 3 of the event will have sessions by Mr. Amar Shrivastava, Chef Eureka Araujo speaking on Brewery careers and Professional Pastry Making, Chef Rahul Wali on History of food, Mr. Ramesh Upadhyay on careers in facility management, Mr. Bapji Jinaga on Science of Mixing Fluids, Chef Rajesh Shetty on Airport Catering, Mr. Anshay Jain on Being a food blogger, Mr. Karthick on Laundry management as a career, Chef Raviraj on Concept of cloud kitchen and Mr. Akalpit Prabhune on Fruit wines.
Students expressed that they learned several dimensions of the practical aspects of what they learn in the curriculum. Ms. Rujuta Rane a student of SY BSC HS mentioned that she came to know a lot of new things about Agro Tourism and she will be considering it as a prospective career ahead. Mr. Suraj Bisht a student of TY BSC HS mentioned that he gained valuable insights about how to present the food, from the session on Food Styling.
