New Delhi: Team director Ravi Shastri opted out of India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July due to prior engagements.
The BCCI said that team manager on Monday informed media persons gathered for announcement of India’s squad.
Shastri is expected to be back with Team India for the remainder of the season as per a report in the Times of India newspaper.
However, BCCI had been informed of this decision by Shastri before the team left for Bangladesh.
Since senior players like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni too are expected to be rested, charge of the team could be given to a of member of the support staff.
The report further added that Shastri is likely to retain his position as director till the 2016 World T20 Championship.
Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar are expected to b awarded with two-year contracts ahead of the Zimbabwe tour.
