8th Edition of SwaraMalhar to take place between July 30th and July 2nd

PUNE: The eighth edition of the SwaraMalhar Music Festival organized by city-based Violin Academy and Oerlikon Balzers will take place at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch between June 30th and July 2nd. The timing of this 3-day festival would be 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm every day. This was announced by Pandit Atul Kumar Upadhye, Founder of the Violin Academy during a Press Conference held in the city today. Tejas and Rajas Upadhye were also present on the occasion.

This year the festival is supported by Badhekar Group, Vilas Javdekar Developers, Lokmanya Multipurpose Cooperative Society, and Wilo.

Speaking on the occasion Pandit Upadhye said, “The Monsoon season has arrived and so has the power of rain gods to embrace us once again with a beautiful and divine atmosphere which is closer to our hearts – the Malhar season. At Swar Malhar this year, we would be witnessing a powerful and tightly set concert in the form of Poetry, Semi Classical & Classical Vocals, instrumental duets, Tabla solo, Kathak, and eventually a Padmashri duet as the finale. All the genres encompassed in one massive festival to celebrate the arrival of the monsoon.”

Day 1 of the SwaraMalhar Music Festival will begin with a specially created program titled ‘Malhar Dhun – Shades of Rain Story Tana Riri with Raag Sangeet and Poetry. It will be presented by Vidhushi Devki Pandit, acclaimed poet Vaibhav Joshi and renowned flute player Ashwin Srinivasan. The main artists would be accompanied by Prashant Pandav on Tabla, Abhinay Ravande on Harmonium, Omkar Dalvi on Pakhawaj, and Susmirata Dawalkar (Vocal). Dr. Sameera Joshi – Gujar will be the anchor for this program.

Day 2 of this monsoon festival will start with a Kathak performance of Nidhi Prabhu, she will be accompanied by Pandit Mukundraj Dev (Tabla), Shrirang Tembe (Harmonium and Vocal), Zubair Shaikh (Sitar). Veteran violinist Pandit Atul Kumar Upadhye will be the next artist to mesmerize the audience who will be accompanied by Tejas & Rajas Upadhye (Violin) and Pandit Kumar Bose (Tabla). Pandit Ajay Pohankar, a senior vocalist from the Kirana Gharana, and Abhijit Pohankar will have their performance as the final one on day 2.

Day 3 the final day of the festival will start with a classical vocal performance of national award-winning artist Rahul Deshpande followed by the Tabla Solo performance of Pandit Kumar Bose, a celebrated Tabla artist from the Banaras Gharana. The festival will conclude with the joint performance of Ustad Shahid Parvez (Sitar) and Pandit Vijay Ghate (Tabla).
