The British High Commission in Solomon Islands hosted the fashion show to promote local talent in the Solomon Islands

UNITED KINGDOM: The British High Commission in the Solomon Islands recently hosted a fashion show to promote local fashion talent in the region. The event, held on Thursday, September 21, showcased the unique designs of five local designers to guests who attended the show at the British High Commissioner’s residence.

The first catwalk featured a combined effort by Miss Celia of Orchid Souvenir Shop and Mrs Zanina Vave of Fujita Crafts. Their display included a variety of tie-dyed lava lavas with different ways to wear them on the islands. The second catwalk involved a collection of casual beachwear designed by Vae Taylors, owned by Elaine Maepio. The third catwalk showcased a range of casual, formal, and evening wear, traditional attire, and body art by Proton Creation and Jaz Jewels.

The event also featured a special appearance by former Miss Solomon Islands Tema Wickham and the current reigning Miss Solomon Islands, Tiare Haro. The British Deputy High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Ms Emma Davis, expressed her delight at the opportunity to celebrate Solomon Islands designers in honor of London Fashion Week.

Fashion is a global industry that represents UK creativity, innovation, and design. The sector is worth PS35bn to the UK and employs one million people. The UK is the world leader in fashion education and is home to six of the world’s 20 leading fashion universities, with over 1,500 international students enrolling in British fashion courses every year.

The British High Commission Solomon Island Fashion Show is a platform for the wonderful work that Solomon Islands designers are doing and their talent and creativity which has wowed the audience. The event aimed to promote the creativity and innovation of Solomon Islands designers and their contribution to the global fashion industry.
