PUNE: Airtel, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, today demonstrated the power of 5G technology with GuruVR, an Immersive technology solutions company. This will enable students to experience education through the latest VR technology, through which students can easily learn complex subjects, making it easier for them to remember it for a longer period of time.

Being the first telco to demonstrate the power of 5G with a host of powerful use cases in India and with the intention of revolutionizing the education sector using technology, Airtel has embarked on exploring use cases in the segment that can be offered by leveraging 5G technology. Among the explorative attempts at 5G use cases, Airtel has spearheaded innovation by showcasing India’s first 5G-enabled VR (Virtual Reality) classroom.

Airtel is powering tech entrepreneurs and startups, nurturing VR use cases and solutions to transform education in India, bringing an immersive and realistic experience for students. As a showcase, in March 2023, Airtel also presented how Airtel 5G Plus is transforming education by facilitating real-time VR-based immersive learning through a Solar System Experience use case and the VR equipment involved in the immersive experience. Airtel stated that with AR-VR enriched education powered by Airtel 5G, students will be more engaged, entertained, and informed than ever before. Virtual reality enables learners to travel the world, explore impossible situations, and deep dive into complex topics, all in a safe environment.

Airtel recognized FirebirdVR’s efforts in revolutionizing education with immersive technology and provided them with a supportive environment to showcase their innovation to the world. GuruVR aims to establish libraries across 100 higher education institutes and universities in the next 18 months. GuruVR offers university-approved curricula, including ITI, Polytechnics, and both undergraduate and postgraduate Engineering programs, alongside relevant value-added courses.

Airtel 5G services are now available in over 5,000 cities and towns in India, surpassing the 10 million unique customer mark nationally. The company aims to cover every town and key rural areas by September 2023. The company recently completed the minimum roll-out obligation of introducing 5G services on the 26 GHz spectrum in all 22 telecom circles, in accordance with the norms set by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
