PUNE: To celebrate Women’s Day, the city’s Prerana Music Organization felicitated women achievers for the excellence of work in their respective fields. It was held in a program that was recently concluded at the Balshikshan Mandir Auditorium, Mayur Colony. Dr Preeti Joshi; Principal, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Shree Balaji University, Pune, Seema Limaye & Sanyogita Shitole, who have achieved remarkable achievements in the field of education, and Mitali Limaye; scholar of Saint Literature were felicitated on the occasion at the hands of Vidushi Saniya Patankar; Founder of Prerana Music Organization and a singer of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana.
Dignitaries like Dilip Nagarkar and Sunita Nagarkar; Directors of the Hari Shankar Nagarkar Jewellers were also present. A special talk based on ‘Women in Classical Music’ by Prof. Ashok Shinde from Phaltan was also concluded.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shinde said, “Women such as Hirabai Pednekar, Kamla Kamat-Gokhale, Tarabai Mane, Vidushi Hirabai Badodekar have done commendable work in the fields of Marathi theater and classical music ever since the pre-independence era. And these women also gave a new dimension to the theater. As women, their struggles and experiences in this field will be a blessing for the next generation.”
