PUNE: A total of 722 students got their degrees at the 3rd convocation ceremony of Symbiosis Skills and Professional University, Kiwale on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Hon. Governor of Maharashtra, Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari was the Chief Guest for the ceremony. Shri. Rajesh Khatri, President, and CEO, of Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited, was the Guest of Honor at the convocation ceremony. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, Chancellor, of Symbiosis Skills Universities, presided over the function in presence of Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro-Chancellor, SSPU, and Dr. Gauri Shiurkar, Vice Chancellor (I/C), SSPU.
Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Pro-Chancellor informed about the Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU)’s unique pedagogy which focuses on 70 percent practical or hands-on training. She also informed me about various initiatives. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar highlighted the need for a skill-based education in our country especially when India has the advantage of a demographic dividend – a large pool of young population who can be skilled to become job ready. He said that SSPU has made significant strides in providing skill-based training to the youth of our country.
Hon. Governor of Maharashtra, Shri. Bhagat Singh Koshyari said that What the state requires is skill-based education which will help the youth to obtain jobs in the local industry and at the same time this will satisfy the demand of industry for skilled manpower. He further congratulated SSPU for bridging the gap between industry and academia. Hon. Governor also congratulated women who acquired various skills through various programs at the University.
Shri Rajesh Khatri congratulated the girls from underprivileged and rural backgrounds for successfully completing the FIAT-Symbiosis Wingyaan program and for excellent placement. This joint project between Fiat India and Symbiosis Skills and Professional University provides underprivileged girls a chance to get trained in the area of Manufacturing excellence. The training of the girls is funded through Fiat CSR. The 1st batch which got awarded diplomas at Convocation has got an excellent placement with high salary packages.
At the 3rd convocation ceremony, 722 students (411 UG and PG Degrees, 30 Diplomas, and 281 Certificates) were awarded certificates for successfully completing their program at Skill University.
Mr. Turai Anjaneya Krishna, B. Sc. Data Science, and Mr. Patil Sohan Arun, M.Tech Mechatronics (IOT, AI & Robotics), received The Chancellor’s Gold Medals this year. The Chancellor’s Gold Medal is given to the ‘Best Outgoing Student’.
In order to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship, SSPU is the 1st university in India that has constituted the ‘Atmanirbhar Award’. The award is conferred on a student of the university who has started his/her own innovative business from scratch. This year’s Aatmanirbhat Award has been conferred to Mr. Abraham Fernandes – B.Tech Mechatronics Engineering for starting his own paper bag manufacturing business and employing many people.
Mr. Swapnil Makhare and Ms. Swati Panchal received the ‘Kushal Award’ at the convocation ceremony. The University also confers the ‘Kushal Award’ on those students who have acquired skills at the university and successfully launched their careers.
It should be noted that for the first time in our country, the University is awarding two-year diplomas after 10th standard to girls from underprivileged families. On the occasion of the Convocation, covid widows and graduates from the economically weaker section of society who underwent various skill training courses at the University were awarded certificates.
