PANAJI, GOA: Children between the ages of six to sixteen years can now feel the excitement of competing in a truly international race while also being introduced to competitive racing and fitness at an early age, by participating in the upcoming IRONKIDS run to be held on 7 October. The run is a curtain-raiser to the IRONMAN 70.3 India race which will be held on 8 October in Goa.

Six to eight-year-old children can participate in a one-km run, nine to 12-year-olds can participate in a two-km run, and 13 to 16-year-olds can participate in a three-km run, which are the three designated categories for the event. All the participants would be awarded medals for taking part in the IRONKIDS Goa challenge, the only such run of international repute for children in India.

IRONKIDS which is in its second edition will have children participating while family and friends cheer on from the sidelines. There is no other race of this scale and magnitude in India for children in the six to sixteen-year category in the country and that’s why we stepped in with IRONKIDS,” said Deepak Raj, chief executive officer of Yoska and franchise owner of IRONMAN in India.

Winning isn’t the main focus. It’s about children participating and experiencing the joy of running” said Raj, who is on a mission to instill the value of fitness in younger generations in India.

The IRONKIDS Goa challenge which is part of the iconic IRONMAN brand will be held near Miramar in Panaji, Goa’s state capital on October 7, one day before the IRONMAN 70.3 India event in Goa, and it is supported by Policybazaar.com

The organisers of the children’s challenge have received several confirmations so far for the run which will see participants coming in from other states as well. Leading schools from Goa including Sharada Mandir, The Gera School, and others will be participating. Corporate groups are also encouraging their employees to register their children in a bid to inspire individuals to focus on fitness within the family at an early age.
