Global Education Pathways

KOLKATTA: In a significant step towards expanding global academic opportunities, JD Birla Institute (JDBI), Kolkata, has entered into a strategic academic collaboration with Brunel University of London, a leading UK institution known for its career-focused programs and industry-aligned teaching.

The collaboration offers multiple high-impact benefits for JDBI students. One of the most significant highlights is the 3+1 or the 4+1 academic pathway. Under this pathway, eligible students who complete either a three-year undergraduate degree or a four-year Honours degree from JDBI may, subject to meeting Brunel University of London’s admission criteria, pursue one year of postgraduate study, enabling them to graduate with both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in an accelerated timeframe and enter the professional world earlier. As a major advantage under this collaboration, eligible JDBI students progressing through this pathway will also receive a significant tuition fee concession at Brunel University of London, making international postgraduate education substantially more accessible and financially viable.

Students pursuing the postgraduate programs may also opt for a placement year for a nominal additional fee, allowing them to gain one year of industry experience in the UK, often in paid roles, while building international professional networks and strengthening long-term career prospects under post-study work opportunities subject to the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) guidelines. The collaboration additionally opens pathways to future-focused postgraduate specialisations in areas such as Artificial Intelligence Strategy, Business Intelligence, Digital Marketing, International Business, Finance, Human Resource Management, Innovation, and Digital Transformation, reflecting the rapidly evolving demands of global industries.

In the current environment where international student admissions and visa processes are becoming increasingly restrictive across destinations such as the UK, USA, and Canada, this collaboration provides eligible JDBI students with a viable and enabling pathway to pursue higher education abroad.

In a statement from the Executive Dean of Brunel University of London, Prof. Danae Manika expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “As Executive Dean of Brunel Business School, I am delighted to support this partnership with J.D. Birla Institute. This agreement to pursue the international MSc degree reflects our shared commitment to expanding global opportunities and preparing students to thrive in a dynamic, technology-driven world.” She further highlighted Brunel’s focus on practice-led education, industry engagement, innovation, and impact, adding that the University looks forward to welcoming J.D. Birla students to London and supporting their journey toward global careers.”

The benefits of this collaboration will also extend to all JDBI alumni, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to creating lifelong global learning and career advancement opportunities.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Saugata Banerjee, Director of JD Birla Institute, said, “This collaboration will serve as a conduit for international career pathways, enabling our students and alumni to access global academic exposure and industry experience in an increasingly interconnected world.”
